Free Music Notes for Other Side of Me

Free Music Review: Whether this is the "Other Side" or "Both Sides," Eder Turns Us Upside Down -- this is simply terrific.
Hit: 5 Stars

Long-time Eder fan here, but I still bring a certain amount of skepticism when hearing that Linda's veering into non-Broadway(ish), non-pop, non-Big Belter territory. That's what I had heard Eder was heading with THE OTHER SIDE OF ME. And the release of this recording had been bouncing around for some time, which always gives one pause. Well, okay -- I was proved wrong and whatever skepticism I had is now quite simply gone.

This is one of the most cohesive female pop singer recordings I've heard in a long, long time. If there's an objection to be had, it's that there are a few of the lesser tracks which tend to blend into one (but then, when wasn't that the case with all of Eder's Wildhorn recordings). Enough small sniping -- this is simply swell. The highlights include "Pieces", "Back To Life, "Waiting For The Fall." And an absolutely stunning "Both Sides Now."

I've followed this career ever since Eder did a gig at Chicago's Park West to a very small crowd back, god knows when. Her voice is simply a singular miracle and again, I was just plain wrong about this recording (if you were concerned about the waylay of her "GOLD" recording, have no fear here).

Who knows if this will get any of the attention it warrants -- if Eder had hit with this recording say ten years ago, Celine Dion would be a far away second from her. And p.s., all of the Streisandesque stuff is long gone -- Eder's her own woman now, and she's certainly welcome in my world. Just terriric.

I've also listened to Linda since Star Search and have bought and loved all her albums, especially enjoying the big band sound and standards. But, after about a week listening to this CD, it's fast on it's way to becoming my favorite. The title of the CD is straight forward, because this is the other side of Linda, and I love it. 'Pieces', 'Lifted', and 'Make Today Beautiful' are amazing and the entire CD and each performance is very uplifting. The slightly unique but still familiar take on 'Both Sides Now' is great. It's risky, but Linda stays true enough to the original but with a slight twist, and the result is an old song that I love that sounds fresh and not like just another cover version. The overall song choice is outstanding. No one can deny Linda has one of the most powerful voices out there. This album still showcases that voice, but in a different way. No lofty high notes or power-vocals. Her vocals are more subtle, able to explore her lower register a bit (which is great)and overall the CD has a really personal feel to each performance. Love you Linda, and thanks for keeping it real.

Free Music Review: BRILLIANT! SHINING! ABSOLUTELY A NEW SIDE!
Hit: 5 Stars

All Eder fans have been waiting anxiously for this release since it was announced for another label earlier this year. So glad Verve has taken Linda under their wing and released this gem of an album. Seeing the premiere concert performance in March 2008 near Linda's home at a Country Club in Westchester, I was totally taken with this "other side". All of the effort that Linda and her co-producer Billy Jay Stein have put into this new selection of songs pays off and deliver the utmost pleasure. What Linda calls "midwestern", I call it "Anne Murray two octaves higher". Laid back vocals in a comfortable style, some with pep, some with pathos, but all 100% "Ederized".

The first single is "Lifted", with other standouts as "Pieces", "If I Could" (as heartfelt as her live performances of this song), "Waiting For The Fall" (written by Linda), "Both Sides Now" (featuring singer/songwriter Shaun Barker on vocals; Shaun wrote/co-wrote several tracks on the album), "They Are The Roses" and the title track.

This recording is "flawless". Should do very well and it is highly recommended.

Free Music Review: Not my "usual" genre of music, but I love it all the same.
Hit: 5 Stars

Linda Eder is one of THE premier singers of pop standards and Broadway tunes, and her talent is definitely showcased on this newest release. I hadn't previously listened to her as I'm generally not a fan of "adult contemporary" music. I'm more of a rocker chick, which is why it was so surprising to me that I instantly fell in love with this album.

Eder's voice is so absolutely pure and gorgeous. She maintains the integrity of the standards on the album, while still bringing her own style to the selections. Her original tunes are actually GOOD! "If I Could" is a particular favorite and worthy of some radio time already!

I've been playing the album at work and I can't tell you the number of people who have come over to ask what I'm listening to. This never happens to me at work! I work with some pretty tough musical critics, so this just further convinces me that Linda Eder is as good as I think she is.

This is not an album to be missed.

Free Music Review: A New Life...
Hit: 5 Stars

Linda Eder was right when she said that her fans would love it or hate it.. seems like a few people don't share the appreciation for her "true" musical tastes. Although the broadway scene sucked her in to it's clutches and helped her gain the momentum she posesses today, I think it's unfair of critics who condemn her for putting her heart and soul out there for us to experience. Any TRUE fan will embrace this album whole heartedly. Sure.. it doesn't have the witty lyrics and big band arrangements.. but it certainly shows that she can sing anything and everything with style. This album has so many amazing songs full of heart felt emotion. I think her voice is more than aptly suited for the folk style she's explored in this album. I'm glad she's taken the risk to show her "other side" and share it with her adoring fans. If you love her unconditionally you will undoubtedly love this album.
