Free Music Notes for Canciones de Mi PadreFree Music Review: Passionate music Hit: 5 StarsSongs of pain and reflection, with a pure clear voice that's a joy to experience. Ronstadt pays excellent tribute to the world of Mexican music. Ronstadt was considered one of the world's best singers in the authoritative book ''Billboard Guide to Tejano and regional Mexican Music,'' and this CD is proof of that. Great stuff, highly addictive.
Free Music Review: SALUDOS A TODA LA RAZA, BANDA O FLOTA,(como se autodenominen Hit: 5 StarsI listened to this CD back in Veracruz, Mexico. When I got the tape (that long ago it was)I was kind of reluctant to listen to old classic mariachi songs sung by an American singer, nevertheless she has a Mexican heritage. But I was soon surprised as much as delighted on the beautiful sound that Linda and her producers could achieve. The last time I listended to this record was back in the mid 90's. Now that I found it here, I didn't hesitate in buying it. I hope to get it soon. It's one of the best purchases I've ever made on-line. Greetings to all. Don't forget.

Free Music Review: The most widely recognized album in the Latino community Hit: 5 StarsAs I'm typing this review, I realize I've left this c.d. at home, and I miss it terribly. While growing up, I'd be at barbecues or parties and this album would be played, and the reactions by some of the older people who'd grown up listening to this music when it was still being written was somewhat of a cliche. Some would be tearful, some would become more boisterous, and of course I never understood it all. Then I finally bought the album. The excellent production, Linda Ronstadt's soaring voice, the songs, and the heart put into this album (insert cliche here) made me want to listen to it more and more. In actuality, it has made me go out and search for more recordings of Mariachi music. Every one I know has bought or heard this album and has loved it, and that's a fitting tribute, including friends and acquaintances who are not Latinos. A must have for anyone who loves great music.
Free Music Review: A real surprise! Hit: 5 StarsI was prepared to put up with the material to hear Linda Ronstadt engage yet another musical genre; I was not prepared to admire it so much. The songs reflect a culrure of heightened romance, braggadacio, machismo, drunkenness, and the drama of love. The almost operatic quality of some of the more dramatic vocal lines is enough to make your hair stand on end. If anyone doubted Ronstadt's vocal facility, the sheer power of "La Cigarra" should quell all doubts. But there is subtlety here, too, and lovely sweet songs delivered in a coy style appropriate to the lyrics. The recording is very crisp and live; your neighbors may think you're having a party with a mariachi band!
