Free Music Notes for The Very Best of Linda Ronstadt

Free Music Review: Essential
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is essential for all of Ronstadt's fans. A pretty comprehensive look at her decades long career. 16 out of the 21 tracks are from her peak period, in the 70s. The other tracks mark her adult contemporary comeback in the late 80s/early 90s. There is little fat or filler here, if any at all. Just focuses on her most memorable music. It doesn't focus on her Nelson Riddle albums, her collaboration with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris in the country album TRIO, or her Spanish albums. Just the best that there is to offer. An interesting choice to include her 1993 track "Winter Light". Also included is her duet with Aaron Neville in "All My Life". Highlights (can you even choose?) among her early work include "Long Long Time", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Just One Look", "You're No Good", "Heat Wave", "Oooh Oooh Baby", "It's So Easy", "Love Is A Rose", among many many. This is a good jumping point to start your collection if you are a new fan.

Free Music Review: The title says it all!
Hit: 5 Stars

Linda Ronstadt gives her fans her very best with this collection. This collection even includes her 1967 hit DIFFERENT DRUM with the Stone Poneys. Ronstadt's fans will always remember YOU'RE NO GOOD from the Grammy-winning HEART LIKE A WHEEL. I'm sure those who heard Van Halen's cover of the song love that one also. A fan of the Everly Brothers as well, she kicks ass on WHEN WILL I BE LOVED? and IT'S SO EASY. She beautifully covers OOH BABY BABY,which was first a hit for The Miracles and HEATWAVE,made famous by Martha & The Vandellas. Other great hits include HURT SO BAD,which is a cover,SOMEWHERE OUT THERE with James Ingram which is from the Disney film THE SECRET OF NIMH(nim),and with Aaron Neville,DON'T KNOW MUCH and ALL MY LIFE. In 1983,Ronstadt musically converted from pop/rock to easy listening. DKM and AML are two easy listening tracks that found a place on the pop charts in late 1989. Ronstadt went country briefly, recording 1987's TRIO with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. The other songs are good.

Free Music Review: Reaffirms Ronstadt's Position As Master Interpreter
Hit: 5 Stars

While on occasion criticized for not writing her own material, Linda Ronstadt nonetheless became arguably the definitive interpretive singer, male or female, of the last three decades. While she started out as a country-rock singer, she never limited herself to that role--for every 'You're No Good' or 'Poor,Poor Pitiful Me', you had a Motown classic like 'Heatwave' or 'Tracks Of My Tears'(which in my estimation to this day still equals, if not surpasses, the original Miracles' classic). Along the way she made a few genre stops (new wave, mariachi, adult contemporary pop) before coming full circle in the late nineties. The compilation adds a few of her late-eighties duets with James Ingram and Aaron Neville not found on her two previous greatest hits cds, as well as several album cuts. Ultimately, this compilation reaffirms that few artists in recent times could match Ronstadt's overall first-rate body of work.

Hit: 5 Stars

I've always been a Linda Ronstadt fan, well over 30 years now and this CD is a great way to get into some of her mainstream music. All the standards are there such as Heatwave, You're no good, Different Drum and later songs such as Winter Light and Don't know Much. She does a great version of Tracks of my Tears and Hurt So Bad is a great rock number. Buy this and you have a good idea of what her voice can do and you won't be disappointed!

If you want more of her try such albums as Heart Like Wheel, Hasten Down the Wind and some of her more diverse offerings such as For Sentimental Reasons, Cancione de mi Padre and Frenesi.

This is a must buy for those of you who would like a talented and gorgeous female vocalist in your collection.

Free Music Review: Excellent Highlight
Hit: 5 Stars

This cd is a wonderful introduction to Linda's music, but I feel her work deserves the same two disc attention as her Warner label mates Fleetwood Mac and Carly Simon. All three acts have released three and four cd cd boxed sets and although Linda's boxed set is the most recent of the three, her recorded history also deserves a two-disc hits anthology. Linda's boxed set focused on album tracks and was really done for the fans, hence the absence of a number of hit songs. This greatest hits package should have been a completer set to the box and she's had enough hits to fill a second disc. Let's hope Warner does the same for Linda as they've done for Rod Stewart, and release a hits part two.
