Free Music Review: One of rock's true eccentrics releases a great cd
Hit: 5 Stars

Life's unfair. Want proof? Just look at Buckingham's solo career. "Out of the Cradle," almost ignored when it came out in the early 90's, is now belatedly considered by many rock critics as one of the ten best cd's of that decade. Perhaps burned by that poor reception, LB didn't release another solo cd until '06's Under the Skin, and now this year's Gift of Screws. I connect the 2, with Screws (title based on Emily Dickinson) a more electrified sequel to the acoustic Skin. And like Skin, it shows Buckingham's superior skills as a songwriter, arranger and master guitar player. His guitar work, alone, is enough to have him in the pantheon, but he is constantly overlooked on "best of" lists. As a muscian, Buckingham simply plays circles around most other guitarists, and I certainly put him in the class of great ones like Steve Morse or Pat Metheny. He's that good, and it's on full display on Screws. Lindsey is back rocking much harder than he has in years, I liked every song. Fleetwood Mac fans should realize, however, this is a Buckingham album, which is far more out there and eccentric than a mac cd--but that's the great appeal and charm of a Buckingham solo work, and he's firing on all cylinders on this very enjoyable, rockin' cd.

Free Music Review: Another splendid offering from the marvel that is Lindsey
Hit: 5 Stars

Having been a veritable fan of Lindsey's work with Fleetwood Mac as well as his solo efforts over the years, I must attest that his latest offering in Gift of Skrews is itself blissfully listenable and yet another perfect representation of his brilliance as one of the most egregiously underrated artists in recent memory. Gift of Screws readily offers more of a studio-produced sound than had the likewise fine but decidedly acoustic Under The Sun album before it, and his Fleetwood Mac bandmates, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, lend their legendary rhythm section to a number of tracks on Gift of Screws as well. Wait For You, The Right Place To Fade, Did You Miss Me, Underground, and the title track are among my absolute favorite songs from this album. If you are even a casual fan of Lindsey Buckingham, Gift of Screws, while perhaps not his strongest solo album to date, is nevertheless another gem definitely worth owning.

Free Music Review: Best musician in the business
Hit: 5 Stars

I heard the album once right after the release and enjoyed "Did You Miss Me" but that was it. Being that "Out of The Cradle" is one of my all-time favorite albums we purchased tickets to see him live in Boston last night. It was one of the best concerts I've seen. The new album comes to life with standouts "Treason" and "Love Runs Deeper" and the concert closer "Time Precious Time". Buckingham's guitar and vocals pierced every soul drifter (in the venue) in half. What an extraordinary performance! NOW I highly recommend the album! Despite all the hits through the years w/ Fleetwood Mac, his solo stuff carried this show and the new album was the best part. When you consider how well he plays guitar, his vocal range, ability to write great songs you have to wonder -is this guy the greatest artist in the music business today? He might be.

Free Music Review: Fan since the early days of Buckingham Nicks and going
Hit: 5 Stars

I (as many of you do) remember Buckingham Nicks work before Fleetwood Mac. I was astonished that Mic Fleetwood picked them up and changed the format of his band, But when he did Fleetwood Mac where headed into Rock History, and in no small part to Lindsey Buckingham.

I've waited a long time for him to find himself again and with this new album believe he has. There are somethings that still remind me of Fleetwood Mac, but how many people would be disappointed if there wasn't a little reminder here and there?

In my humble opinion this is some the finest work he's done since he's left Fleetwood Mac, and equal to some of the feelings he had succeeded in emoting with much of his earlier works. Still wish it was just the two of them. They where amazing.

Free Music Review: Pop masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a more recent convert to Lindsey Buckingham's solo work having previously viewed his contributions to Fleetwood Mac as the high point of their albums (eg the song Tango in the Night). On this album of high class material there are two absolute pop gems in Love Runs Deeper and Bel Air Rain. From all the material contained within the CD packaging it's obvious his family features heavily in his creative processes and it's clearly working for him. He sounds passionate and focused and the results jump out of the CD at you.

I really enjoyed Under the Skin but this album is another notch above it and contains some Buckingham's best work from a career that continues to grow and surprise.
