Free Music Review: GO INSANE ? Music as Therapy.
Hit: 3 Stars

This album is dedicated to Buckingham's former girlfriend, Carol Ann Harris, and her presence, or rather her absence, looms large on many of the songs. Both music and lyrics were obviously written during an emotional maelstrom, and the result is a fraught, highly personal, almost self indulgent album which now shows its age, with electronic vocal and synth effects giving it a very mid-80s feel.

However, that is not to say it's a bad album. There are a few outstanding songs. Honourable mentions go to I Must Go, which has an upbeat rhythm which belies the dark subject matter and original vocals which rise to a final anguished scream; DW Suite, a Celtic epic with three main themes lifted from the Scottish Ceilidh Band Songbook; and the title track, the stripped down acoustic version of which Buckingham plays in The Dance concert, revealing an unusual baroque ballad hiding beneath the strange sounds of the original.

Fans will no doubt buy this to complete the set, but don't expect Buckingham's usual finesse on guitar. This is much more about emotion than music.

Free Music Review: A journey into insanity...
Hit: 5 Stars

In Lindsey Buckingham's work with Fleetwood Mac, there was always a sense of urgent intensity under the surface, waiting to explode at any moment. This is the album where it finally explodes! The album opens with the sound of a ringing alarm clock, waking us up to the fact that Buckingham does not intend to play it safe this time around. This leads into "I Want You", an intense track set to a funky jackhammer rhythm, with Buckingham's distorted vocals drawing us right in to his insane world of lust and longing. This song is followed by three tense (and surprisingly funky) tracks, the most notable of which is "Slow Dancing". This song is incredibly haunting, with Buckingham's trademark vocal harmonies, as well as some beautiful (almost Celtic sounding) acoustic guitar playing at the song's end. All the tension leads up to the album's centerpiece, "Play In The Rain". This 2-part piece uses strange sounds of exotic percussion, sitars, feminine voices, and synthesizers to create a feeling almost of sexual release. After this, the album begins to take a more hopeful tone, leading up to "D.W. Suite" which encompasses life, death, and redemption. This is a true concept album that needs to be listened to from beginning to end. Buckingham proves his true skill to be not just as a guitar player but also a producer in control of a vast array of sounds. The vocal effects and synth sounds are a precursor to the work he would do on "Tango In The Night". Overall, "Go Insane" is an overlooked masterpiece of an album that takes you into the insane world of Lindsey Buckingham.

Free Music Review: Darker side of Fleetwood Mac Genius' Work
Hit: 4 Stars

With "Go Insane," Lindsey Buckingham goes out to prove once again that he can not sound like his work with Fleetwood Mac. And boy does he try. Being even more aloof than his counterpart Stevie Nicks, Buckingham tries to make you think with his computer generated sounds than with inexplainable lyrics. Of course, he does have some of those too. "Hey little girl, leave that little drug alone," from "I Must Go" which leaves us thinking what happened. "I Want You" boasts raw sexual tension and frustrated male hormones in a museum of clock alarms and synthesized keyboards. "I guess I had to prove, I was someone hard to lose," is just perfect, Walking away angry and still aroused. "Go Insane" is just a simple drum, bass, guitar number that gives him comparing all the others to her, while incarnate voices scatter around the fadeout. His closing number, "D.W. Suite," a tribute to late Beach Boy Dennis Wilson, takes us through 3 parts, and only Buckingham knows what any of it means. If you're into paranoid and schizophrantic sounds, then this is for you.

Free Music Review: Buckingham's Best!
Hit: 5 Stars

Buckingham the tortured genius! This album is by far his greatest. I have all 3 of his albums, and all of the Fleetwood Mac albums also. With his freedom apart from Fleetwood Mac, Buckingham shows so much more creativity he has ever before. Written about his breakup, he shows frustration and relief all in one. Hopefully we will see more work in the future!
