Free Music Notes for Hybrid TheoryFree Music Review: A Great Debut to a Great Album Hit: 5 Stars
This is the first CD from Linkin Park, formally known as Hybrid Theory, a hybrid of industrial, hard rock, rap, and techno to make a mix like no other. Each song is great, and I'll tell you about each one.
1. Papercut - This is a fast paced, hard song that gives you a taste of what kind of album you just bought. It has a lot of hip-hop influence, as well other hard rock groups' influence. The lyrics are good, and the music is great instrumentally. 9.5/10
2. One Step Closer - A very intense song. It builds you up with its great music to an all out scream of "Shut Up." This song is probably one of their greatest songs because it shows all the pain they have built up inside them. All the people saying they wouldn't make it, all the people denying them of what they want, all of this just builds until this enraged solo by Chester. 10/10
3. With You - This song was pretty good, I liked it. It isn't there best, but great none the less. Lyrically, its pretty generic, but either way, you will find yourself wanting to be in a mosh when hearing the song. 8/10
4. Points of Authority - I liked this song, but not that great. The lyrics are pretty good, and the music is pretty good, but there is not much else about that song that sets it apart from any other AlternRock band out there. 8/10
5. Crawling - A great song. It gives you a false impression of serenity, only for it to come crashing down in this song that really does crawl in your skin. This song deserves a screaming solo, but doesn't have it. Either way, this song is very diverse, and very good at what it tries to accomplish. 9.5/10
6. Runaway - My favorite Linkin Park song, that's saying a lot, because they have about 40-50 songs (many are remixed). This song is very catchy, and very smart. I think the lyrics are very good in this song, and the music is very diverse and creative. A great mix, and overall, their best song (IMO). 10/10
7. By Myself - This was an okay song. It doesn't stand out, but it isn't bad. I found this song very nicely written, just poorly executed, thus not receiving any prestigious awards amoungst me. 8/10
8. In The End - With hip-hop influence, diversity, catchy chorus, great bridge, and an overall great balance, this is an excellent song. Not my favorite, but up there. This song is what convinced me to get the album 4 years ago, but got old after a while. Some say it sounds kind of whinny, but I think its fine. 10/10
9. Place for My Head - Another somewhat hip-hop influenced song. The chorus is kind of weak, but it builds to a very nice intense part, that I like very much. I thought this was a great song, but others might disagree. 9/10
10. Forgotten - Probably their best written song. There is so much symbolism that people won't get that actually makes it their most relatbale song. I found this song also very good music wise, and vocally. This is probably my second favorite song by them. 10/10
11. Cure for the Itch - This is Mr. Hanh at his greatest. Although there is not real lyrics, this was a good instrumental song. It could have been better, but it was too slow, and doesn't really show a lot of work put into it, but eitherway is great. 8/10
12. Pushing Me Away - The last song on this album. It is pretty fast, so it won't leave you with a nasty taste in your mouth when you are done with the album. This song was intense and good both lyrically and instrumentally, but like a few of their songs, not really memorable. 9/10
Overall, this band has amazing potential, and an immensely large fanbase. This band will be here to stay as long as they keep pumping out an album each year like they have been. If you liked this, you might want to check out their Live in Texas album as well, mostly for the DVD, so you can see them perform 19 of their greatest hits live. I was actually at that concert, so I can assure you, it was great.
Free Music Review: The best album I've ever heard. Hit: 5 Stars
Linkin Park's been around for only about a year and a half, yet, they have a history bands like Limp Bizkit achieved in 5 years: their debut album went 8 times platinum, they've hosted 5 different shows on MTV, 1 on VH1, 1 on HBO (I think), and more, they were nonimated for 3 Grammys and went home with 1, they played 314 shows in the year 2001, almost 1 a day (according to Rolling Stone Magazine), they toured on Ozzfest and Family Values, both in one year, and even created their own tour, the Projekt Revolution tour, with Adema and Cypress Hill. And they're still going. Now on to the Hybrid Theory album. This has to be the best thing I have ever heard. And this is about Phoenix, their bass player; if you didn't already know, Phoenix wasn't in this album because at the time, he was completing a promise he made to another band, which was to tour with them for a year. The bands name is The Snax, and as soon as he finished his year, he rejoined Linkin Park.I'll now review the songs:1.Papercut-5/5-The first track, and a great song. Very eerie, and it just plain rocks. Mike Shinoda mainly sings this one. 2.One Step Closer-3/5-You HAVE heard it, so I won't review it. I gave it a 3 because of all the times I've heard it. Chester Bennington mainly sings this one. 3.With You-4/5-This song has a unique sound. It's the most electronic song on the album, probably because it also has The Dust Brothers on it. It's mainly rap, but like "Papercut", the choruses and the bridge are hard... rock! Mike Shinoda mainly sings this one. 4.Ponts of Authority-5/5-The best song on the album. You can party to this one. The intro is so awesome. Chester Bennington mainly sings this one. 5.Crawling-4/5-Like "One Step Closer", I'm sure you've heard this, so I won't review it. Chester Bennington mainly sings this one. 6.Runaway-5/5-This is a different song, and I can't really describe it. Just look around on one of the other 1,000 reviews. Chester Bennington mainly sings this one. 7.By Myself-4/5-The intro's really hard, possibly the hardest part of the whole album, and then it goes into rap, then the rock chorus, and so on, and so on, and... Mike Shinoda mainly sings this one. 8.In The End-5/5-YES! YOU'VE HEARD IT! NO REVIEW! Mike Shinoda mainly sings this one. But, Chester Bennington sings a hell of a lot, too. 9.A Place for My Head-5/5-The beginning guitar sounds like it's Spanish, dosen't it?...Oh, yeah. This is one of the best songs. Mike Shinoda raps all fast and stuff all the way through. His best song on the album. Mike Shinoda mainly sings this one. 10.Forgotten-3/5-The choruses are awesome, but the verses take away from it. Otherwise, it's a great song. Mike Shinoda mainly sings this one. 11.Cure For the Itch-5/5-You either love this song... or youn hate it. I love it. I don't care for rap (actully I...HATE it), but this song is really cool. It's just a DJ song, in case y'all didn't know. 12.Pushing Me Away-5/5-The softest song on the album, and Chester sings the best on it. The first time you hear it, it makes you want to cry, and even after you've listened to it a million times, it is still awesome. Chester Bennington mainly sings this one. Linkin Park is one of those bands that you will never forget, that is, if you like them. The musicians are extremely talented. Rob Bourdon (Drums) shines the best on "In the End", "Runaway" and "Pushing Me Away". Joe Hahn (Turntables) is best on "Cure for the Itch" (duh), "With You" and "Points of Authority". Brad Delson (Guitar) shows off on "A Place for My Head", "By Myself", and "Points of Authoity". The singers are talented as well, and Chester Bennington does the best on "Pushing Me Away", "Runaway" and "Crawling", while Mike Shinoda does on "A Place for My Head", "Papercut", and "Forgotten". I am so sick of typing, and I thank you for taking the time to read my review.
Free Music Review: Linkin Park's Groundbreaking Debut Hit: 5 Stars
This is the debut album from the southern California nu-metal rockers Linkin Park. This is one of the more original albums out there, because you have the element of old school hip-hop, metal, and modern rock. Here is a song by song review of Hybrid Theory.
Papercut- This is a fast paced rap song. Mike is great here. Chester's vocals in the chorus and the bridge are soaked with anger and rage, which makes for an excellent blend. One of the better songs on the cd here.
One Step Closer- In my opinion, the best song on the cd. This was the first single and it put Linkin Park on the map. There is no rap here, but Chester melds perfectly soft verses to loud chorus seamlessly and effortlessly. His screaming bridge helps you to relate to his anger and it really catapults you into his feelings. The best on the cd.
With You- Good song. Mike's slow hip-hop along with Chester's raging vocals meld perfectly together in this one. DJ Joe Hahn puts on a show for us in the bridge and it sounds great. Very good song.
Points Of Authority- This is one of the examples of Linkin Park going from really soft vocals to loud ones in an instant. Bennington really does a great job here. Mike's energetic bridge goes along great with the theme of the song. A real good one.
Crawling- This is one of the better one's on the cd. The screaming chorus sounds great and the soft verses showcase how varied Linkin Park's sound really is. Mike shows up only in a couple of lines but he makes it count with the voice that will make your skin tingle. This was their biggest hit.
Runaway- This one of the more sorrowful songs on the cd. Chester's verses sound great and so does the chorus. The downside of this song comes in with the bridge. Bennington's screaming does not go along great with Mike's part here. Still, though, Linkin Park mangages to pull it off with results.
By Myself- This song takes the element of the softest hip-hop to go along with some of the hardest rock you hear on the cd. Mike does a great job here with soft lyrics. Chester's chorus is excellent and the bridge is average for them. Good but not great.
In The End- This is the song that shows what Linkin Park is all about. In the first two verses, you have Mike's rhythmic and energetic hip-hop to get you into the feel of the song. In the chorus and bridge, Chester once again shows of his great voice and amazing ability to sing loud and still make it sound really good. This would be Linkin Park's theme song, the one that shows you who they are and what kind of music they make.
A Place For My Head- In my opinion, Mike does his best job here. Very fast and energetic, sounds great. Chester's chorus is great also. Chester's meltdown, screaming bridge goes along great with the theme of the song. Great job.
Forgotten- This song has good verses and a great bridge but the thing that doesn't go well is the first part of the chorus. The screaming along with Mike doesn't go at all and brings this song down to the worst on the cd. If only they had thought of something better, this could have been a really good song.
Cure For The Itch- No lyrics here. An instrumental song that showcases the talents of DJ Joseph Hahn.
Pushing Me Away- One of the softer and better songs on the cd. Bennington is amazing in this one and Mike's two lines in the chorus are good enough. I love this one.
There you have it. The twelve songs that put Linkin Park on the map and made them one of the most popular bands of the modern era. When you look at the numbers: 8 million sold in the U.S and 13 million sold worldwide, this is one of the great debuts in modern rock history.
Free Music Review: Impressive! Hit: 5 Stars
I was expecting an extremely angry experience with this album. And in many ways I got it, but the rap aspect of it really surprised me. With the trite-ness of Limp Bizkit, Korn, and a handful of other Metal-Rap bands, I wasn't expecting much. (01) Papercut - With coool guitars to start this track out joined by the rapper (not clear on the names) who has a very decent flow to his music, this is a GOOD song. The rhymes are pretty good throughout as well. {5} (02) One Step Closer - You all know this song don't you? I LOVE this song. It has a good guitar riff with a pretty decent set of lyrics. The first half of the song is somewhat stereotypical "Generation X Noise" but at the halfway point when he starts screaming "SHUTUP!" it's very intense and easy to spaz out to. {4} (03) With You - The rapper starts out this song kinda slow, then it picks up with another good riff on the guitars, and the other singer still has a good scream throughout this song. I love the dub on their voices, too. {4} (04) Points Of Authority - The rapper starts out this song kinda dumb-ly with an awkward rhyme, but the loud singer has a good melodic part while screaming throughout as well. {3} (05) Crawling - The song starts with a loud explosion of guitars with the other singer yelling, and then it slows down so he can sing some soft, melodic verses, before the rapper jumps in with a quick line or two (he seems to have a back seat on this song), before the guitars explode again. The other singer screams, and then it slows down again for some truly beautiful singing. Impressive. {5} (06) Runaway - Another good melodic part by singer #2 and the rapper has a back seat on this song as well. The melody is carried through until the 2 minute mark, where he just starts yelling, with an explosively angry part. {5} (07) By Myself - The rapper takes the forefront on this track with some mediocre rapping, although it progressively gets better over the course of the track. The second singer really knows what he's doing here. He holds the melody together through the mid-Loud parts and joins the noise of the guitars through the LOUD parts with a tortured scream. {4} (08) In The End - The second singer has a really great voice, he starts this track out with a quiet, melody, and gradually progresses a little bit louder (he never really screams in this song, and he still sounds awesome!), and he still has a great melody. The rapper has a really good flow in this song. The dub on the rappers voice is awesome too. One of my favorite tracks on the album. {5} (09) A Place For My Head - This song starts out with the rapper doing a great job! The chorus is kinda awkward. The rapper has SKILLZ! He compares with Eminem's speed in this song. And then it gets loud with the second singer going crazy. Good song. {4} (10) Forgotten - Uh oh. Limp Bizkit flashback. Fortunately, the song gets somewhat better. The rapper does an overall good job in this song, despite sounding like Fred (retch!). It's an ok song. {3} (11) Cure For The Itch - Hm. This song starts wierd, with a wierd sample, and some other wierd samples. The instrumental part is very, very cool though. (It reminds me a lil bit of Aphex Twin.) {4} (12) Pushing Me Away - The second singer has a good melodic part of this song. He really has a great voice. The lyrics are surprisingly well written as well. The rapper has a back seat on this one again, but when he is there, he does a pretty good job. {5} This is a great CD. If you like loud stuff, or if you like melodic stuff and can tolerate loud stuff, you should definitely get this CD. NOW.
Free Music Review: Platinum for a Reason Hit: 5 Stars
Linkin Park has become probably the best new-age heavy metal rock band to hit the market this year. From their impressive DJ mixing, to their guitar to their vocal cords, Linkin Park has put many genres in one, creating sounds more than one person may like. Their mix of heavy metal shouting to the rapping, it all comes together to create a perfect melody. Notice there was no “Parental Advisory” sticker on the CD case? Linkin Park’s lyrics are touching, and yet resemble your own thoughts, without including trash in them. With clean lyrics, everyone can enjoy the tunes without embarrassment nor having to turn down the radio. Here is a brief overview of the Platinum CD:1 - Papercut: Excellent New-Age sounds, good melody, with the mix of Rap and Rock, the inspiring lyrics make you think to yourself. -=5.0=- 2 - One Step Closer: Linkin Park’s “hit” song, which was the main reason I bought the CD. After listening to the other tracks, One Step Closer became boring, but yet, it still has a good melody, and intertwine of Rock and Rap. -=4.0=- 3 - With You: Superb usage of New-Age sounds, very nice melody, and lyrics that leave you thinking to yourself, yet again. Another good mixture of both Rock and Rap. -=5.0=- 4 - Points of Authority: After listening to this song over and over, I still can’t get hooked to it. I’m not sure what it is about it, but it just doesn’t touch me like the others. -=2.5=- 5 - Crawling: Probably Linkin Park’s best song, with a VERY cool music video! Crawling expresses the feelings inside you that you can’t control, with an excellent melody. Yet again, impressive New-Age sounds make the song 10 times better. With the mixture of a light melody, then progressively harder melody, Crawling makes this song one that you would sit back in a chair and close your eyes to. -=5.0=- 6 - Runaway: The song never came to my attention until a month or so ago, after listening deeply to the lyrics. The rich tone of New-Age sounds, and the guitar make this song a hit of this CD. The lyrics make your think about your self and your life. This is one that you will obsessively want to play over and over again. -=4.5=- 7 - By Myself: The sound and the interpretation of this song at first makes your eyes open, but then the mixture of a Rap melody, then a intertwine of Rock makes this song notorious. This is more of an upbeat song, then its not... you will have to decide for yourself. -=4.5=- 8 - In The End: A fabulous slower-beat song , with piano sounding melody makes your indefinitely think about your life, and how things were for you. The lyrics will bring back memories, and the tone will make your think harder about your “fall”. The whole assembly makes this song my second favorite on the CD. -=5.0=- 9 - A Place for my Head: The song never appealed to me, but seems to for others. Decide for yourself -=2.5=- 10 - Forgotten : The song never appealed to me either, but seemed to for others. Decide for yourself, yet again -=2.5=- 11 - Pushing Me Away: The soft beat at the start and then the progressive up rise makes this song a perfect completion to a excellent CD. The lyrics yet again touch your mind, bringing up thoughts and feelings. One of my favorites. -=4.5=- Basically, this is one CD you mustn’t download of “Morpheus” or “Bearshare”, but one that you ... will have to go buy. Trust me, this will be one CD you won’t be disappointed in. You’ll catch yourself singing to yourself one day, and this CD will include that song.
