Free Music Notes for Hybrid TheoryFree Music Review: An Epic Concept Album, Simply a Masterpeice Hit: 5 Stars
Alot of people probably havent looked at this CD, Hybrid Theory as a concept album, but it is. It deals with the struggles of being a youth, and dealing with the good and bad times while growning up. Here is a run down of the songs.1. PAPERCUT 10/10- This song is truely great, with great rapping from Shinoda and excellent, low, crunching guitar. The lyrics deal with a young man's paronoia, leading to his eventual insanity, something that I have had to deal with alot in my young life (paronoia, not insanity) 2. ONE STEP CLOSER 9/10-The first single, overplayed and overrated, but simply a rush to experiance. It focus's on a person who is letting out their emotions at an authority figure, screaming "SHUT UP WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU!!!!" Good song, but not the best. 3. WITH YOU 7/10- A good song about a hard relationship that came close to ending, but heads toward a promising future. Apparantly this will be the next single- That honour should belong to PUSHING ME AWAY... 4. POINTS OF AUTHORITY 8/10- This one involves a person confronting an abusinve friend "You love the things I say I'll do, but I'll hurt myself again just to get back at you..." powerul, and it works. 5. CRAWLING 9/10- A worthy second single, and quite a powerful song. It deals with drug abuse "Crawling in my skin, these wounds, they will not heal, fear is how i go, confusing what is real..." and how it can destroy a person from the inside. Very Moving. 6.RUNAWAY 7/10- My least favourit track on the CD, is concerns a teen who, after so much pain and anguish, decides to quit it all and runaway, physically or mentally, I'm not sure. 7. BY MYSELF 9/10- Self doubt is the focus here, and it provides great raps for Shinoda, who dominates hear as in the next song... 8. IN THE END-100/10- THIS SONG IS AWE INSPIRING!!! Seriously, after I listened to it the first time, I was amazed at the power in the lyrics. It sounds to me like a suicide note, and the writer jotting down his reasons for killing himself and his final state of mind, that he "Tried so hard, and got so far, but in the end, it doesn't even matter...". I can do all the raps from memory (OK, I can do the WHOLE DSISK from memory, but its still cool!) Great song, an instant classic 9. A PLACE FOR MY HEAD 7/10- Good, Not Great. It's a philosophical song, about the search of a young man as he tries to discover his meaning in life "I wanna be in the energy, not with the enemy: a place for my head...". Meh. 10. FORGOTTEN 9/10- Pretty good, it's about a relationship between parents and a teen that has been neglected and isn't good anyomore, and according to the song, can NEVER be perfect again. 11. CURE FOR THE ITCH 8/10- A cool little instrumental, amazing DJing by Hahn. In terms of concept, it could represent all the little dark thoughts in the minds by the way it plays, or (my favourite) could represent a person with too much power, who has been corrupted by it. With it's dark mood, it is a good track to kick to. 12. PUSHING ME AWAY 11/10-The epic closer, not alot of rapping, but great singing by Chester and great Guitar by Phoenix, plus Hahn does his bit... It all works, and very well! The plot concerns a man who, after giving in to his girlfriend for so long, decides to put his foot down and leave if she isnt OK with his new found esteem. All in all, a great CD, as good as, if not better, than Follow the Leader by KoRn, and right up there with the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, The Offspring and Metallica for melding Electronic, Rap, and hardcore metal intoa perfect, seamless package. Buy this disk, you shall NOT regret it.
Free Music Review: GREAT! Hit: 5 Stars
I was expecting an extremely angry experience with this album. And in many ways I got it, but the rap aspect of it really surprised me. With the trite-ness of Limp Bizkit, Korn, and a handful of other Metal-Rap bands, I wasn't expecting much. (01) Papercut - With coool guitars to start this track out joined by the rapper (not clear on the names) who has a very decent flow to his music, this is a GOOD song. The rhymes are pretty good throughout as well. {5} (02) One Step Closer - You all know this song don't you? I LOVE this song. It has a good guitar riff with a pretty decent set of lyrics. The first half of the song is somewhat... "Generation X Noise" but at the halfway point when he starts screaming "SHUTUP!" it's very intense and easy to spaz out to. {4} (03) With You - The rapper starts out this song kinda slow, then it picks up with another good riff on the guitars, and the other singer still has a good scream throughout this song. I love the dub on their voices, too. {4} (04) Points Of Authority - The rapper starts out this song kinda dumb-ly with an awkward rhyme, but the loud singer has a good melodic part while screaming throughout as well. {3} (05) Crawling - The song starts with a loud explosion of guitars with the other singer yelling, and then it slows down so he can sing some soft, melodic verses, before the rapper jumps in with a quick line or two (he seems to have a back seat on this song), before the guitars explode again. The other singer screams, and then it slows down again for some truly beautiful singing. Impressive. {5} (06) Runaway - Another good melodic part by singer #2 and the rapper has a back seat on this song as well. The melody is carried through until the 2 minute mark, where he just starts yelling, with an explosively angry part. {5} (07) By Myself - The rapper takes the forefront on this track with some mediocre rapping, although it progressively gets better over the course of the track. The second singer really knows what he's doing here. He holds the melody together through the mid-Loud parts and joins the noise of the guitars through the LOUD parts with a tortured scream. {4} (08) In The End - The second singer has a really great voice, he starts this track out with a quiet, melody, and gradually progresses a little bit louder (he never really screams in this song, and he still sounds awesome!), and he still has a great melody. The rapper has a really good flow in this song. The dub on the rappers voice is awesome too. One of my favorite tracks on the album. {5} (09) A Place For My Head - This song starts out with the rapper doing a great job! The chorus is kinda awkward. The rapper has SKILLZ! He compares with Eminem's speed in this song. And then it gets loud with the second singer going crazy. Good song. {4} (10) Forgotten - Uh oh. Limp Bizkit flashback. Fortunately, the song gets somewhat better. The rapper does an overall good job in this song, despite sounding like Fred (retch!). It's an ok song. {3} (11) Cure For The Itch - Hm. This song starts wierd, with a wierd sample, and some other wierd samples. The instrumental part is very, very cool though. (It reminds me a lil bit of Aphex Twin.) {4} (12) Pushing Me Away - The second singer has a good melodic part of this song. He really has a great voice. The lyrics are surprisingly well written as well. The rapper has a back seat on this one again, but when he is there, he does a pretty good job. {5} This is a great CD. If you like loud stuff, or if you like melodic stuff and can tolerate loud stuff, you should definitely get this CD. NOW.
Free Music Review: Got my Skin Crawling... Hit: 5 Stars
Linkin Park is one of very few alternative rock groups i listen to, I'm mostly a Hip Hop and R&B person, but Linkin Park does a lil rapping which is why I listened to them in the first place, but ever since I have always loved Linkin Park...they're kind of EMO (which i hate) but they are extremely catchy and they make good music. I bought this album way back in 2002, and ever since I still listen to it (not as often) but every time I listen to this CD i just feel strong for some stupid reason. All the songs are perfect or above average, there are only 12 tracks but the album feels complete.
1)Papercut - the song starts with a head bumping beat, than an even more head bumping guitar riff, and than a break your neck combination of everything. The song is one of my favs because there is good rapping, and the screaming is scary but intising. 10/10
2) One Step Closer - I think I heard this song first after watching Dracula 2000, it was very in your face an the lyrics were just gritty. I never even knew who Linkin Park was but I knew the song, it was very surprising to find that this song was by Linkin Park...anyway a very good hard song. 10/10
3) With You - the sound was very similar to One Step Closer but different construction, not one of my favorites but I never skip the song. 9/10
4) Points of Authority - another mix with rap and rock, the beat was sick (mixed wit a lil DJ'ing), the chrous was very catchy. I feel EMO listening to this song, but the actual lyrics made perfect sense, I actually could relate to this song. 9.5/10
5) Crawling - this song won Linkin Park there first Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance...the video for this song was very poetic in my opinion very specific and very intuitive. The actual song was very disturbing to me in the beginning, I couldn't figure the frantic screaming that Chester was doin, but I've learned to love it. 10/10
6) Runaway - this is a very poetic song actually, actually hearing Chester singing without screaming was a nice change. This was my old favorite wen I was younger, I use to play this song like 10 times a day, seriously. 10/10
7) By Myself - this song was my least favorite, I don't know why but it just is. It wasn't very catchy and the actual story of the song wasn't very interesting. The song is decent tho. 7.5/10
8) In The End - THIS IS THE BEST SONG OFF THE WHOLE ENTIRE ALBUM. the beginning piano was unforgettable in my head, the beat is impossible not to love and Mike Shinodas lyrics are very true. Chesters Singing is a A in my book. The whole song is just great, the best song by Linkin Park. 11/10
9) A Place for My Head - Mike Shinoda's lyrics were in my head wen I heard this song. The beat is very catchy, and the hook is catchy. And the "You try to take the best of me, Go away" part was sick as hell. 10/10
10) Forgotten - another song demonstrating Linkin Park's story telling, I tend to skip this song a lot for sum reason, the song is good but there is just sumthin about it. 9/10
11) Cure For The Itch - this is an instrumental, but more of a demonstration from Mr. Hahn, his DJ skills are great, people that don't like scratching or Hip-Hop u will skip this but I personally love it. 10/10
12) Pushing Me Away - the final song of the album, this song closes album rather well but again not one of my favorite songs. The song is a story and a good one at that, Chester's singing is very well done and the instrumental's is good. 8/10
Free Music Review: Linkin Park not metal...so what? Hit: 5 Stars
A lot of people are saying that LP are crap because they aren't "true metal" and anybody who likes metal shouldn't be listening to them because they are posers. They also say that the only reason LP fans like LP is because we don't know any better. Well, guess what? I'm a big fan of your "true metal" as well as LP. I like bands such as Opeth, Gordian Knot, In Flames, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Extol, Rush, Sepultura, and every other Heavy/Death/Progressive metal band you can think of. Just because a band doesn't sound like what you want it to sound like doesn't make it crap. You're saying it's not good because it's not metal??? You really need to expand your horizons and open your mind. To me, music is music. It doesn't matter if there's rap in it or if the singer sounds like N'SYNC (I don't know why some of you think that, is it because of Chester's clean vocals in Papercut/In the End/Runaway/Pushing Me Away. That vocal sound is called SINGING, not "sounds like N'SYNC"). They produce good, original music. They aren't posers, I've never heard anybody that sounds like them.Anyway on to the review of the CD. 1)Papercut-(9/10) Great opening. Lots of rap but I don't mind the kind of rap with poetic lyrics. I like Chesters singing part at the end. 2)One Step Closer-(8/10) Short, but still a great song. Great for building up adrenaline. You've all probably heard it on the radio. 3)With You-(8/10) Solid song. I love the bridge (I think it's called the bridge anyway) 4)Points of Authority-(8/10) My favourite verse by Mike is in this song. Chester's voice must have been torn to shreds by the end of this song. 5)Crawling-(7/10) I loved this song at first but started to get tired of it. Still a great song though. I like the video. 6)Runaway-(8/10) Good song. 7)By Myself-(7/10) Sounds like a lot of noise but if you listen to it carefully it is very melodic. 8)In the End-(8/10) Every time I listen to this song I hear some new instrument in the backround. Listen to this song from the CD, the radio version is very bad sound quality. 9)A Place for My Head-(9/10) It took me a while to get into this song but now it's one of my favourites. 10)Forgotten-(10/10) My favourite. Everything about it's great. 11)Cure for the Itch-(8/10) This song takes a few listens, but you learn to love it by listening to it carefully. 12)Pushing Me Away-(10/10) Another favourite. It seems different from the other songs somehow. Overall this is one amazing CD. The only problem is it is way too short. They should have threw in the old Hybrid Theory songs such as Carousel and And One, as well as My December. You should download them because they are worth a listen too. My December-(10/10) Is this the same group who made One Step Closer? Olie[stink]! One of the most beautiful and haunting songs I ever heard. Did Limp Bizkit make anything like this, I don't think so. High Voltage-(6/10) An ok song. Don't know what it's about. High Voltage Remix-(7/10) This isn't the remix on the Reanimation Cd. This is the version where Chester has a part near the end. Step Up-(6/10) A song with just Mike. Gets kind of boring. And One-(8/10) I haven't heard this song in a while but I remember it was a great song. It's just Chester as I remember. Carousel-(8/10) Great song. Part of Me-(9/10) An amazing song. Technique-(7/10) Kind of like Cure for the Itch.
Free Music Review: Wow! Hit: 5 Stars
I have to admit, I did not like Linkin Park from when I first heard "Crawling". I saw a Target commercial for this CD, playing Crawling and thought, My god, who listens to this stuff?? But then I heard "In the End" and I had to check them out. I am so glad I did!! Linkin Park is my new fave band. They really got me into rock music. Sometimes the songs are really soft (My December) or sometimes they're really loud and hard (Papercut). I like their soft songs though. I also love being able to bob to a song! This CD is worth every penney I paid for it! Mike's voice mixed with Chester's voice is like, perfect. You can tell by the way they sing it that they are so into what they do. This is the best CD I own. BUY IT!!1. Papercut- 10/10: this song just blasts out. its really loud. It got me hooked right away. I love this song. I especially like the "sun goes down" part. 2. One Step Closer- 9/10: would you believe, I heard this song on the radio, liked it, but never knew who it was until I bought this CD?? anyway, this song is great! whenever I'm getting "lectured" I can't help but think of this song. SHUT UP WHEN I'M TALKING TO YOU!!! 3. With You- 8.5/10: I love the intro to this song, and the sound effects. I don't know, sometimes Chester's screaming voice gets on my nerves sometimes.... 4. Points of Authority- 9.5/10: this song is awsome. I really like the beat. I don't know how to describe it, but this song really gets me into it. 5. Crawling- 9/10: Do I really have to say anything? I would probably like this song a lot more if it wasn't so overplayed. But I still love the verses, the way Chester sings it. 6. Runaway- 9.5/10: I love the intro to this song, and the pre-chorus. It's pretty hard (he starts screaming at the end) but I like it all the same. 7. By Myself- 10/10: (you guys are gonna think this sounds stupid but..) the rapping in this song is really pretty. I like the way Chester says "failure". I like the way this song flows, its really hard. 8. In the End- 10/10: I'm sure you have all heard this song, but still.... This is one of my favorites. I love the video. I like the whole song, but especially the "put my trust in you" part. (Chester looks cute in the video!!) 9. A Place for My Head- 9.5/10: Whoa! I don't know what to say about this song, except that me and my sister know all the words!! We love this song (sing along all the time)! {You try to take the best of me, GO AWAY!!} 10. Forgotten- 10/10: I love how this song skips the intro, and goes straight to the heavy stuff! Pretty hard. I can't think of anything bad about this song. 11. Cure for the Itch- 8.5/10: This song is okay, it's just DJ scratching, which you've probabaly heard by now. {Hey all, it's their site music..} 12. Pushing Me Away- 9.5/10: this song is really hard in the beginning but gets alot softer. I like it though. it's a really good last song. I love it. Hope this helps! One bad thing about the album: Not Long Enough!! ps. I just heard (and burned) My December and High Voltage. they are both really good songs. I like My December because it's really soft and I can sing along to it :). High voltage is really cool. It sounds hip hop, which i don't really like, but I do like this song. pps. The song "It's Going Down" with the X-Ecutioners was awesome! I love that song.
