Free Music Notes for Hybrid TheoryFree Music Review: Fantastic album Hit: 5 Stars
Linkin Park's debut album Hybrid Theory is exellant. Both the band, a nu-metal act, and the album have quickly become favorites of mine. The main criticism of Linkin Park is that they are an inpersonation of Limp Bizkit. This is not a fair argument: just because they both play the same genre of music does not mean Linkin Park is a rip-off imitator. For that matter, while I might be considered a casual fan of Limp Bizkit, I feel that Linkin Park is an infinately superior group. I love their rap-metal genre blending & their multi-layering vocals. On with a review of the tracks: (rated out of 5 stars) #1- Papercut. 5/5. It has a nice, melodic feel to it along with the rough guitars. The song seems to be discussing the questioning of one's abilities and rationale. It has a great hook; I found the lyrics insightful and retrospective. #2- One Step Closer, 5/5. A hit single. Great vocals. A song that vents anger and frustration. #3- With You, 5/5. About the struggling within a realationship; touches on appearance vs. reality theme. Nice, haunting vocals. #4- Points of Authority, 5/5. Song seems to be response to a sadistic & controling relationship partner. Uses rap hooks. #5- Crawling, 5/5. Also a hit single and the song that really caught my ear. This is one of the albums stand-out tracks, with the song alluding to insecurity and feelings of insanity. My second fave song on the album. #6- Runaway, 5/5. Another great, fast-paced rocker. Another stand-out song & it's my favorite track. #7- By Myself, 4/5. A song that questions the importance of being sociable or reliance on your self. #8- In the End, 5/5. Another hit song. I love it; it's very emotional, talking about putting effort and failing to get results #9- A Place for my Head, 5/5. Very cool guitar riffs. Another song discussing relationships, this time with someone who's too demanding, while he just wants some peace. It's very rap-oriented at parts. It's quite dramatic, and strong & forceful, especially at the end. #10- Forgotten, 5/5. About a failed relationship and the memories left from it. #11- Cure for this Itch, 5/5. This track is an instrumental. The first 30 seconds or so are odd & you can't really tell what's going on, but overall it's very interesting. It incorporates the use of synthesizers, percussion, as well as orchestration and piano. #12- Pushing Me Away, 4/5. About realizing that he's foolishly been wasting his time in a bad relationship and knowing that he needs to get out. All and all this is a great album. 5 stars. Hope this review is helpful, though I know that at points I really couldn't think of anyway to describe the music in words. Also, if you're not sure if you'd like this group, I think you should give the album a listen. At first I didn't think I'd like them either but now (as I've already said) both the band and this album are among my favorites.
Free Music Review: My favorite band, and one of my favorite CD's! Hit: 5 Stars
I'll just get right to the point...Hybrid Theory is amazing. Some people have a lot of stupid reasons for hating Linkin Park, but I myself am a HUGE fan of the band, and this CD is an amazing example of why they totally rock!Papercut: 5/5 An amazing guitar opens this song, followed by some meaningful rapping by Mike, but the bridge before the chorus is what get's me, "It's like a face that I hold inside, face that awakes when I close my eyes!" I love it. One Step Closer: 4/5 The only real reason I gave this track a 4 is because it was the single, so eventually you hear it alot! Don't get me wrong, I'm not burnt out on ANY Linkin Park song, I just like this one less than the others. With You: 5/5 When I first got this CD 3 years ago, this was my favorite track for the longest time. The thing I loved about it the most was Joe Hahn's scratching in the background during the chorus. Points of Authority: 5/5 "Forfeit the game before somebody else takes you out of the frame, and puts your name to shame...cover up your face, you can't run a race the pace is too fast, you just won't last!" Amazing. Crawling: 4/5 Much like One Step Closer, this song is not as good as the others just because it was played alot on the radio and MTV, but if you've never heard it (yeah right) you'll love it! Runaway: 5/5 Amazing song with meaningful lyrics and a pulse pounding chours that will get you banging your head. By Myself: 5/5 If you love super hard chorus's that get you jumping, screaming, and banging your head...you'll love By Myself. When ever Chester screams, it shakes your head and all you wanna do is rock out! In the End: 4/5 The only other overplayed single, but still good. Much like Crawling, if you've never heard it you'll love it. I still love it, just not as much as the others! A Place for My Head: 5/5 When you hear that twangy banjo like sound in the beggining, you might be confused, but soon, the song rocks out, and then Mike starts speed rapping madly. It's great. Forgotten: 5/5 I noticed that people tend to forget about this song, ironic that it's called Forgotten. There isn't even a live version of it on Live in Texas. It is a GREAT song with meaningful lyrics, much like Runaway. A Cure for the Itch: 3/5 It's obvious why I gave this track a 3...there isn't any words..or guitar. It's an entire minute or so of Joe Hahn scratching. He is a talented man, but I wanted it to rock out at one point so bad! Pushing Me Away: 5/5 AMAZING SONG. It is, in my opininon, the most powerful song on the album. With You was my favorite when I first got the CD, but when I listen to it now...this one is my favorite. The remix is even better. Overall: 5/5 Amazing album. There is no denying that Linkin Park has tons of talent, and I hope that they keep making great albums!
Free Music Review: a great album Hit: 5 Stars
For those who are willing to look past stupid rumors (the band was not "put together" and they did write their own stuff), and while we're at it nnot believe them when they try to review something, Linkin Park is a great bandthey are nothing like N'Sync, thats really just a bunch of dribble drafted up by metal fans who're upset about the media calling teh genre nu-metal. i suppose fortunately for them, LP never considered themselves metal. but they never could control what teh media labels them any more then metal bands can control teh media calling them nothing but aggressive pointless by-gones from a past age that incites violence and aggression. what do you do. as for radio airplay, the album did get played out, but i don't see how that factors into the quality of the album, cause the album doesn't affect how much radio's play it. for those thinking LP is just another rap/rock outfit, you'd be wrong. they sound nothing like Limp Bizkit or Papa Roach. Instead of simply rapping over guitars, LP combines melodies from Chester Bennington and rapping from Mike Shinoda into a fusion of sounds versus rapping over rock guitars i won't go into a song by song review, there are plenty of those here whether you like LP will probably depend on several things if you are a "true metal" fan as some of teh reviewers that gave LP a bad review described tehmselves, then you probably won't like LP. they never called themselves metal, but these "true metal" fans bought the description like everyone else. i'll lay it out now. no they're not metal. if you are looking for metal, you won't find it here. if you are looking for Bizkit like stuff, you still won't find it here They are not a corporate pop group, don't believe teh people who say they are, but LP does produce quieter more melodic songs. excuse some people for feeling not everything has to drum down to what "hard rock should be" basically if you are looking for something thats different (and they are different, i have challenged many who say they aren't to find a band that sounds like LP and none have been able to) that doesn't mind going with quiet melodic tracks and then into louder "harder" tracks, a band thats willing so show some versatility and isn't ashamed to appeal the the crowds with more open listening tastes, and frankly if you're not one of those people who think hip hop/rapping is a crime against nature; then you should then look into Linkin Park however, if you're a "rock purist", a "metal purist", one of those people who thinks rock should be "hard" and not "watered down for the corporate machine" **insert heavy sarcasm and mocking**; then yes, save yourself the time and money and don't buy Linkin Park's album it most likely won't be your cup of tea
Free Music Review: Undeniably catchy Hit: 5 Stars
So nearly eight years after its release, Hybrid Theory is still going strong. It is true that some of the lyrics may seem immature or generic, a good example being 'One Step Closer.' This album was directed towards teenagers so we'll ignore that flaw. But, the really special thing about this album is that you can listen to the whole thing without having to skip any song. Each song is catchy and listenable and this is one of the only albums I know that I don't have to skip any songs. Now I am a big LP fan. A breakdown of all the songs:
Papercut: 10/10. Love the rhythm of this song. It talks about someone who is paranoid. Excellent start for the album.
One Step Closer: 7/10. Bad choice for the second song. It's listenable, but definitely not a highlight of the album. Don't know why they made it a single.
With You: 10/10. Mr. Hahn's talent shines on this. Chester's vocals are amazing here. This should have been a single rather than 'One Step Closer.'
Points of Authority: 10/10. One of my favorites when I heard the album. I love the part at the end when Mr. Hahn the DJ mixes up the beat.
Crawling: 8/10. Chester's vocals might seem gravelly and annoying after a couple of listens. Not the best, but still good.
Runaway: 10/10. Another one of my favorites. I don't know why everyone hates this song! This could even be considered inspirational. This song can easily get you pumped up, especially towards the end.
By Myself: 9/10. Has a beat that sounds a bit like 'With You' but still a good song. Mike's and Chester's vocals go together with such harmony in this song, it's very cool.
In The End: 10/10. The one and only. With a haunting piano piece and Mike's raps on top this song was sure to be a radio favorite.
Place For My Head: 8/10. Just like in 'Crawling', this song might get tiring after a couple of listens. I love the intro of this song. But, Chester's amazing vocal range is clearly displayed in this song.
Forgotten: 10/10. Just like in 'By Myself', Chester's and Mike's vocals go together amazingly. My third favorite song off the album. I love the part at 2 minutes when Mr. Hahn changes up the beat.
Cure for the Itch: 10/10. It might get boring for some people, but this song shows how talented Mr. Hahn really is. LP would literally be nothing without him.
Pushing Me Away: 7/10. Good, but it leaves you itching for more Linkin Park. This album is too short in my opinion. I wish they had added more songs. But anyways, if you like rap at some limits you will love this album. Hence the title, it is a mix of rap and rock and the product is great. Whenever you're feeling down, this album will definitely help you out. Worth the money. Buy this album!
Free Music Review: An excellent CD...an amazing debut album Hit: 5 Stars
Linkin Park's album "Hybrid Theory" is an exceptional debut worthy of all it's praise. I didn't actually consider buying the album until I heard the second single, "Crawling" which is when I began listening more closely when I noticed how good their lyrics were. Their lyrics is one of the main reasons I love Linkin Park so much. They sing about actual things that so many music fans can relate to- people, and how you deal, or don't deal, with relationships you form and break with people. Their style is actually quite unique in my opinoun- People can write them off as a Limp Bizkit cover band, but Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda serve as a double threat vocally, something that Fred Durst cannot duplicate if he tried to. Their combination of rock and hip hop works so well in all of their songs. Another great thing about the album is that every track is great- worthy of radio play, and just as good, if not better, than the ever popular radio tracks ("In the end", "One Step Closer", and "Crawling") Here is a short review of all the tracks:1) Papercut- Probably my favorite track on the album after "In the end" got overplayed. A great opener, showcases how Bennington and Shinoda work so well together. 2) One step closer- Their first single, a harder song that is good to listen to if you feel like venting. 3) With you- A great song. Awesome lyrics, one of the best songs on the album. 4) Points of Authority- Could be their next single. A really great combination of hip hop and rock. 5) Crawling- Showcases Chester's insane vocal ability, a good rock song that they won a Grammy for this year. 6) Runaway- another great song. Good lyrics and shows their ability to contrast a quiet verse with a loud, in your face chorus. 7) By Myself- wasn't my favorite at first due to the hard intro. It grows on you though, and now I really like it. 8) In the end- we all know this one. was my favorite track...But its still a great song with great lyrics and showcases Shinoda's ability to carry a song. 9) A place for my head- One of my absolute favorites. Theres a catchy guitar riff and awesome lyrics. 10) Forgotton- wasn't my favorite at first either, but now i really like it. The verses are well written and its a harder song on the album. 11) Cure for the Itch- So much fun...its the instrumental track where DJ Mr. Hahn shows off his impeccable skills..don't skip this one...its a cool song. 12)Pushing me away- Linkin Park's version of a ballad. Haha. I love this song, the lyrics are extremely relatable, has a tame verse with a hard chorus...great song. Nice ending to the album. As a fan of rock, pop, and hip hop and rap, I promise you if you are a fan of music, great lyrics, and an innovative sound, you won't be dissappointed with the purchase of "Hybrid Theory"
