Free Music Notes for Hybrid TheoryFree Music Review: Not for the cold of heart Hit: 5 StarsIn my mind, I believe Hybrid Theory is a great cd and is very much worth buying...even though its not the type of metal you hear out of bands like Slayer and stuff like that...its more of an easier to digest metal blended in with rap perfectly the only way you can do it.
I don't think Linkin Park should be considered with bands like Limp Bizkit and constantly put down because of some of Limp Bizkit's certain shames to rock and rap. If you like rock, and you like a little rap, or a little rock and some rap then you should definately pick up HT.
Free Music Review: *Shuffles through CDs*...."Ah, found it" Hit: 1 Stars*Puts in -The Jester Race-, computer plays "Moonshield"*
*sighs* "Ahhh...this is nice"
I remember doing the same thing with Linkin Park. Though I never made the mistake of buying any of their records (I was almost going to with this one), I remember the days where I would play one of their songs right on my computer. I would then end up going out with my parents and turning on the radio to either 104.9 or 107.7 (Seattle peeps know what I'm talking about) and I would end up hearing the same, if not another, Linkin Park song. I felt like I was popular and that I was listening to good music.
Then In Flames hit me, and I grew into them. I then searched more of them and soon enough Metal began to consume me. I really distanced myself from this and began to despise it with each passing day. Now...now I just pity it. If I remember correctly, the power of the band relied on the vocals, not the guitarists; playing their power chords end on end.
There is much more out there in the world than this. People who still like this are still stuck with MTV, there is no denying it. I mean c'mon, collaborating with that leech Jay-Z was our sign to move on.
Free Music Review: Overated and Overplayed But Not Half Bad Hit: 4 StarsI really like this album. Most of the songs are good. There is only one or two that I don't like. In the End, Cure For The Itch, With You, Paper Cut, Crawling, Runaway, and others are my favorites. I think track two is the only one I don't like. I also don't like the fact that thais is a short cd. Just over thirty-eight minutes I think. Also, some of the songs do sound similar to one another but it's nowhere near as bad as Meteora. One last thing, Linkin Park is considered a metal band. That's not so. They aren't heavy enough to be considered as metal. Instead, along with other bands such as Pillar, P.O.D., early Project 86, and one of the crappiest bands of all time, Limp Bizcit, this is what you call rapcore. Now you know.
Free Music Review: Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory Hit: 3 StarsO.k. before I get started, I refuse to classify this CD as metal. I'm just going to call it how I think it is and say it's Industrial. Sorry if that's a problem for some of you but when people call this album metal, it makes my skin crawl.
Now that I've gotten that out of my system, onto the review. Linkin Park's debut CD "Hybrid Theory" was a bit of a change on rock radio because it was one of few Industrial/Rock CD's that saw air time on Top 40 radio and rock radio. It was quite a bit of a change than the usual norm when it comes to rock on Top 40 radio but for the time when it came out, it was a good thing.
O.k. now the reason on why I refuse to call these guys metal is not because of their radio success but it's because they don't use a drummer or bassist and use a quintent consisting of 1 guitar, 1 drummer and 3 DJ/samplers. On "Hybrid Theory" the guys show some promise as 2 what they could do with a line up as unconventional as this. For what it is worth and to their credit, their heavier songs like "Papercut", "One Step Closer" and "Points of Authority" are good songs. The mixture of guitars and sampling on these songs are represented very well on these tracks.
The vocals on this album are also a mixture of screaming and even some rapping. Honestly, I didn't have a problem with that at all. I guess it works because they have 3 guys taking on 3 separate vocal roles (lead vocalist Chester Bennington, backing vocalist Joseph Hahn and emcee Mike Scmoda). My only gripe about the vocals is that on "In the End" and "Crawling" the vocals are just a little whiny at best and droning altogether. Sorry but these 2 tracks just bore me to sleep.
All in all, I give "Hybrid Theory" a 3.5. Even though Amazon won't let me give a half rating and normally mathematical principles would force me to round up to 4, I'm still going to round down to 3 on the Amazon rating scale. I admit it is a little on the lame side that I do this on the basis that this isn't a true metal album or even rap/metal album. Sorry folks but for those of you who are musically inclined, that statement should ring some truth there. Again still a good CD, just don't expect metal.
