Free Music Notes for MeteoraFree Music Review: Linkin Park forms a classic with "Meteora" Hit: 5 Stars
I've personally been a fan of Linkin Park since their debut album "Hybrid Theory". I loved that album, and i was blown away by their remix album "Reanimation", so i had to pick up this one. There are lots of things l iike and dislike about "Meteora", so i provided a track-by-track review below:"Don't Stay" - I personally love this track, a really good way to start off such an incredible album. Chester's screaming can get annoyning at times, however, the raps make up for it in the end. 4/5 Stars "Somewhere I Belong" - The incredible first single, we've all heard it and i love it. This song (according to the booklet) was originally a sample of Chester playing electric guitar, after over a year of work, it was completed. I say it was well worth a year of work. Also, if you pop the cd into your computer, there's an option to watch this video. 5/5 Stars "Lying From You" - This is a pretty good song, kind of mediocre compaired to everything else, but worth a spot on the album. Once again, Chester's screaming gets a little annoying. 4/5 Stars "Hit The Floor" - This is a brilliant song. Not only is the beginning addictive, but the raps from Mike are excellent, Chester's screaming is actually tolerable on this one. 5/5 Stars "Easier To Run" - A good song, fits in good with the album, but for some reason i wasn't blown away by it. Chester somewhat sings here, which makes it better than screaming. 3/5 Stars "Faint" - A pretty good song, the second single from the album. I personally think "Hit The Floor" would've made a better second single. The videos cool though. 4/5 Stars "Figure.09" - Another mediocre song, but this one has good raps and Chester's screaming, so it's kind of better than some of the others. 4/5 Stars "Breaking The Habit" - There is absolutely no way to describe how incredible this song is. Chester's singing in front of a orchestra and some DJ work, excellent. This should definitely be a single, incredible. The booklet says this song took a whopping six years to complete, everything's worth it. 5/5 Stars "From The Inside" - Another good singing job from Chester until near the end where he starts screaming. Good raps and an OK sound. All together mediocre again. 4/5 Stars "Nobody's Listening" - I just love this song. Mike's rhymes are stellar and the Chinese flute at the beginning is incredible. A really good track. 5/5 Stars "Session" - This is another song like the one off of Hybrid Theory that has no words, however, the music is incredible. 4/5 Stars "Numb" - A really good ending to the album, a good job from Chester on this one. All together, i love the album, its excellent. 5/5 Stars Also, like i mentioned on "Somewhere I Belong", if you pop this cd into your computer you not only get the video of track 3, but you also get a segment titled "The Art Of Meteora", in which the band tells about what Meteora is and shows artwork from the album. Also, there are options for LPTV (An online viewing of Linkin Park Television), a Merch section, a Website Tool-Kit, an Extras section, and the story of Linkin Park's fan club LPU (Linkin Park Underground). In addition, is there a reason LP's last 2 albums have been packaged in DIGI-Pak's. Maybe because of the thick booklets? I don't know, but i prefer a regular case, only due to the fact that the booklet from mine falls out. Overall, incredible album.
Free Music Review: Awesome, this is must get for LP fans Hit: 5 Stars
I had mixed feelings when I went to buy this cd. I had a feel listens to it, they've kept the formula that they've used in creating Hybrid Theory, now they used the same formula to create Meteora. All the songs have the same structure: Intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, final chorus. with a few exceptions. Here are the track descriptions:1. Foreword - Typical opening to an album, i like the way it connects to the next song (-/10) 2. Don't Stay - Awesome opening song, very angst but manages without cussing, he talks about times where needs to be alone 10/10 3. Somewhere I Belong - The song that got me to buy this cd, it's also the first single, it features an interesting sample and a chorus that's really memorable, but it starts getting repetitive near the end of the song. Very good. 10/10 4. Lying From You - Another very angst song, with rapping in the verses with an authentic sample that sounds really chinese. The screaming in the chorus really tells you he's in pain, but there isn't any real melody in the chorus and guitar chords don't fit. Still a good song though. 9/10 5. Hit The Floor - This song fights you! Straight rapping and screaming in this one, the beat of the rhythm guitar plays against the beat of the drums, which make this song different from the other songs. It's gets repetitive near the end, not entirely to my liking. 8/10 6. Easier To Run - Wow, what a beautiful rock ballad, this song starts off with the chorus. This is a slow song, with a unique drum beat. Very beautiful verse, the chorus is good but it could be better though. My 2nd favorite song, and could be a potential single. 15/10 7. Faint - The heaviest and fastest song on the album, this is the second single. After you listen to it once, you'll be feeling:" what the hell has just happened?" It looks like as though they were trying to rush this song through, leaving you with a lasting impression of the song. 9/10 8. Figure.09 - A slightly slower song than "Faint", but still angst. A suitable song for a fight scene, awesome rapping in the verses. But not memorable enough to reach excellence. 9/10 9. Breaking The Habit - Something very different for LP to do, reading the booklet inside the case, it took them 6 years to make this. And listening to it, it's really refined and brimming with Chester's soaring vocals. A really well-thought out chorus, very mellow and moving. 10/10 10. From The Inside - This song has just became the fourth(and possibly last) single. The verse and chorus just flat out rocks, screaming bridges as usual. But yet again, it gets repetive near the end. My 3rd favorite 10/10 11. Nobody's Listening - Just flat out rapping on this one, the guitar can only be heard the chorus, but barely. If you're into rap, this song is for you, it's very suitable for breakdancing parties. However, it just doesn't suit me. 7/10 12. Session - The "Cure For The Itch" of this album, only Mike and Joe were involved in the process of making this, very nice instrumental. 9/10 13. Numb - The best song on this album, the third single. Words can't explain how awesome this song is, very good conclusion to the whole album. And it's only LP that can create a song as good as this. My NUMBER ONE favorite song on the album. Intensely moving. 20/10 This album is for all you LP fans, get it if you haven't already. You will not be disappointed!
Free Music Review: Impressive. Hit: 5 Stars
I've been a fan of the band ever since a friend of mine introduced their music to me, just before 'In the End' hit it big.I'm extremely satisfied with this CD. Some of the reasons are that the songs are diverse, yet connected by similar, but always impressive and multi-faceted vocals by Chester Bennington (who so easily goes from a screaming voice to a softer singing one) and Mike Shinoda. 1. Forward - not much to judge, as it's barely 15 seconds long, but it leads perfectly into the second song. 5/5 2. Don't Stay: Not the most amazing song on the CD, but not without it's strong points. The lyrics have a good flow, but the overall effect isn't very strong. 3/5 3. Somewhere I Belong: The intro to this song is great, for lack of a better word, which I frequently replay. The chorus is a bit predictable, but the singing by Chester and Mike is good. It's an effective song. 4.5/5 4. Lying From You : This song is different from the previous ones. The chorus is the best part of the song. 4/5 5. Hit The Floor : More rapping in this song than sing (or rather yelling). For people more partial to rapping, this song will have more appeal. Mike's rapping is really good, though. 3.5/5 6. Easier to Run : This is the first of four standout tracks on the CD that I replay repeatedly. The lyrics are exceptionally well put together and have a great rhythm, and Chester's singing is brilliant. The song is simply beautiful. 5/5 7. Faint : The intro is very effective. The song's tempo is quick, catchy and Mike is at his best in this song vocally. It's difference from the other tracks is also a plus-factor. 5/5 8. Figure .09 : The song sounds familiar, but it's good enough. Seems a lot like the formula used on some of the song's in 'Hybrid Theory'. 3.5/5 9. Breaking the Habit : Six years in the making, this song is beyond amazing. The lyrics are excellent, and leave room for different interpretations (I thought it meant something different than some of my friends did). The singing is perfect, the music perfect. One of the best songs by the band. 5/5 10. From the Inside: This song is almost haunting, especially the chorus. This is a song I have yet to tire listening to (often multiple days). Mike and Chester complement each other, and it's amazing. 5/5 11. Nobody's Listening: The lyrics here excellent, but I'm not fond of the Japanese flute used. The song does however grow on you after listening to it repeatedly. It is also mostly rap. 4/5 12. Session: Interesting to listen to, another song to showcase Joseph Hahn's talent, but I feel the drums were a bit much. 3.5/5 13. Numb: Good song. Pleasant to listen to, doesn't stand out, but is overall a great song. 4.5/5 Overall, I highly recommend this CD. The lyrics, while being really good, may be melancholy at times, but it's worth it. It didn't leave my CD player often. It's a great CD from a talented band who shows devotion to their work (as shown in the DVD), and an enthusiasm that more bands need to show. Buying the enhanced version with the DVD is also a recommendation, if you enjoy behind-the-scenes type stuff. Highlights were seeing the creation of the large mural-like artwork the band made, and hearing the amusing 'Wizard Song'. Also seeing the haunted building sequence was great as well as some studio footage.
Free Music Review: Honestly, this was really their better album. Hit: 5 Stars
It was around 2003 that I became a major Linkin Park fan, and it was because of people overbashing them on a message board. I decide to really see if they were worth the hate. After downloading a couple of their songs, I decided 2 years later to buy Meteora.
First off, I don't conisder Linkin Park to be metal. I just see them as a hard rock band. Metal would be something like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Dragonforce, Dream Theater, you know... What I like about LP is how they take elements of hard rock, rap, and electronica, and blend it together to form a new music. My only flaw though is that they could sing about different things instead of just angst.
Second off, the band isn't emo. IMO, it's just that a lot emo kids listen to LP. But emo kids aren't the only ones though who listen to this. Emo would be something like Hawthorne Heights and some of those pop punk bands.
Anyways, here's my review on the songs:
1 - Foreword" - N/A, it's just an intro for the next song
2 - Don't Stay - 9.5/10, decent song to start off with. It has a nice hip-hopish beat to it as well and really should be remixed.
3 - Somewhere I Belong - 9/10, good
4 - Lying from You - 9.3/10, despite some screaming, Shinoda does well with the rap and I like that instrument in the beginning too.
5 - Hit the Floor - 2/10, easily my least favorite from the album
6 - Easier to Run - 9.7/10, I don't see why people try to compare this to Crawling (which I found to be over-rated). There isn't really blaring vocals like in Crawling...it's just a simple song which I found to come out much better than Crawling
7 - Faint - 9.2/10, I like the beat to the song, but a little too much yelling, especially during the bridge. Face it, you ain't beating Disturbed's Down With The Sickness for the best yelling sequence ever.
8 - Figure.09 - 9.5/10, once again another song that stands out
9 - Breaking the Habit - 10/10, one of my 3 favorite songs from the album. No rap, no blasting/distorting guitars, none of it at all. Chester actually sings quite well in this song. Oh, and it's probably about drug addiction...
10 - From the Inside" - 10/10, this song grew on me due to the music video that came with it. Something different here as the song is set to a triple meter. Some yelling may hurt some listeners though.
11 - Nobody's Listening" - 5.5/10, eh creativity was there, but it just wasn't that interesting...maybe should have made it longer and improved the chrous a little bit.
12 - Session - 6/10, well, it's weaker than Cure for the Itch
13 - Numb - 10/10, easily my favorite from this album.
Linkin Park may not be for everyone but it's quite ignorant to hate a band just because they are on MTV. I never bothered much with MTV after they stopped showing music. Sometimes, the good music will be on the radio. Other times, you'll have to go underground. Meteora IMO is Linkin Park's crowning achievement, and I was able to absorb all the songs in just a couple of sittings unlike their first album which took a while. If you are looking for pure metal, stay back from this album or you'll be dissapointed. If you enjoy alternative rock and don't mind rap, take this album.
Free Music Review: Yes, it is their second CD of perfection, and more will come Hit: 5 Stars
Dear Reader, This is the greatest CD ever. To be the most helpful, I will enlighten you on the pros and cons of each track and lyric sample. Thanks for your time1. Foreward-, PRO: pretty cool, reminds me of spray paint for some reason, blends very nicely to the next song. Con- No lyrics 2. Don't stay- PRO: great song, especially if someone is really annoying you (cough(parent)cough)ahem Sample lyrics: Don't stay, forget our memories, forget our possibilities, what you were changing me into [just give me myself back and] don't stay CON- can't really think of any, except that Mike Shinoda isn't in it. but Chester has a rich voice anyway. Moving on. 3. Somewhere I belong PRO- Well, I don't know about you, but I love how chester and mike (in case ya didn't know mike is the rapper and chester is the nonrapper) switch every other line. Very nice effect indeed. Probably the most positive song they've ever made. It actually leads to some answers. Sample lyrics: I want to heal I want to feel /What I thought was never real I want to let go of the pain I've held so long [Erase all the pain 'til it's gone] I want to heal/ I want to feel/ Like I'm close to something real /I want to find something i've wanted all along /Somewhere I belong Cons: Get's kinda overplayed on the radio. Still a great song 4. Lying from You PRO- very well flowing song (hope that made sense) too me, it's about an authority figure trying to control you and you deciding if you should conform. Lyric Sample-no / no turning back now]/i wanna be pushed aside /so let me go/[no / no turning back now]/let me take back my life /i'd rather be all alone/[no turning back now]/anywhere on my own/cause i can see/[no / no turning back now]/the very worst part of you /is me CON- get's kind of repitive, needs more Mike Shinoda 5. Hit the floor PRO- amazing song, about someone who lies and deceieves but is in the position of authority. Mike sounds even greater than usual (is that even possible) Oh yea, I love the chorus and how Chester yells a line, and then Mike raps a line. Good work. Great rhyming in the chorus/ Sample lyrics: one minute you're on top/the next you're not/watch it drop/making your heart stop/just before you hit the floor/one minute you're on top/the next you're not /missed your shot/making your heart stop/you think you won CON: a bit harsh, and unless your ears are finely attuned to Chester's great voice, you might find it hard to know what he's saying in the lyrics. 6. Easier to run Pro: 3 words, great job chester. Actually, let's elaborate on that, while Mike begins his rap (if i could change i would take back the pain i would/retrace every wrong move that i made i would /if i could/stand up and take the blame i would//if i could take all the shame to the grave i would), Chesters non screaming voice is greatly played while MIke is rapping. sorry, it's hard to explain, listen to the sample, ya'll know what I mean. Sample lyric: look above, genius Con: NONE Sorry guys, I have to go know, but get the CD, I'll review the rest later, i'm tired. Hope I helped
