Free Music Notes for MeteoraFree Music Review: Excellent Progression Hit: 5 Stars
Let's face it, this album is not Hybrid Theory. Though some of the tracks have the HT sound and could have very well been placed on that album, they can't fit any better than on Meteora.01. Foreword -- This had to have its own track for what reason? 02. Don't Stay -- Could be put into comparison with 'Papercut', not bad but not great, solid song that flows pretty well. (7/10) 03. Somewhere I Belong -- Not the best song LP has put out there but the intro makes it all fall into place, very different from HT material. (7/10) 04. Lying From You -- Finally, Brad creates a riff catchy enough to make this one great. The lyrics stand out on this track, translate it however you want, it just works on so many levels. (9/10) 05. Hit The Floor -- I didn't like this one when I first heard it, but it tends to grow on you. As much as I hate referring back to HT, had this song been made during that time, I'm pretty sure it could've been put on there, it just has that sound. The flow of the track is a bit slow but the chorus just hits you right in the face. (8/10) 06. Easier To Run -- Sounds great live..... horrible on the album. I was really dissapointed that the heavy drumline by Rob wasn't put before every other instrumental. I loved this song when I heard it live and to hear it in a different way on the studio recording just doesn't do it for me anymore. (4/10) 07. Faint -- Possibly the best song on the album. It's just so unique and different from anything we've heard from LP, the beat is just so quick and the vocals match it the entire way through...great video too. (10/10) 08. Figure.09 -- I would say this is among the most catchiest on Meteora, but not the most outstanding. I would never skip it and it's worth the listen but after a while it can get old. (7/10) 09. Breaking The Habit -- Now this is a track worth listening to, the 10-piece orchestra payed off because it's very serene and 'beautiful' for a lack of a better word. The meaning behind the song is a bit sketchy, and it's ironic that Mike wanted to write this song for years but he doesn't sing a single word in it. (9.5/10) 10. From The Inside -- Love the intro, could be compared with a mix between 'Crawling' and 'Pushing Me Away'. Not bad. (8/10) 11. Nobody's Listening -- The track I usually always skip because I don't see where this fits in with the rest of the album. The instrumental beat is great but the lyrics..so-so. Atleast Chester gets a good part in the chorus. (6/10) 12. Session -- Forget 'Cure For The Itch' (10/10) 13. Numb -- Possibly 2nd best song on the album, extremely comparative to 'Pushing Me Away', both in song progression and track position. Though it can get old, a listen here and there works just finely. (8.5/10) Meteora: 5/5 stars
Free Music Review: Hardcore LP Fan Hit: 5 Stars
Alright, I admit it. I am biased toward Linkin Park because they're one of my favorite bands (up there with Zeppelin, Incubus, and Pink Floyd).Nevertheless, I think this album definitely ranks up there with the best albums of the year. I disagree with many fans who think ::every song:: is a hit, but anyway.. My ratings: Foreword: Not really much to rate.. Sounds cool though :D Don't Stay: More rock and Chester singing than most Meteora songs. Decent. 3/5 Somewhere I Belong: Infectious lyrics.. It gets almost as tiring as In The End after a while though. (Don't get me wrong, In The End is a great song.. it just gets tiring to listen to after ten thousand times.) 4/5 Lying From You: Basically the same old LP formula.. mostly rap verses with Chester adding the chorus. Nice raps by Mike. 4/5 Hit The Floor: A somewhat "quiet" song in parts, this features great rapping from Mike, and shows his talent without a loud background.. Pretty good. 3.5/5 Easier to Run: Reminds me a lot of Runaway.. Very basic Linkin Park formula. 3/5 Faint: The worst song on the CD, hands down. It really just does not live up to earlier Linkin Park works. However, it still is a great song to listen to.. Compared to other Linkin Park it's just not very good. 2/5 Figure 0.9: Mike puts down some serious rapping on this track, and Chester pushes his voice to the best of its abilities. 4/5 Breaking The Habit: Incredibly infectious rhythm and melody.. Also Chester actually shows off his singing, rather than his screeching, in which the former turns out to be just as amazing as the latter. The lack of rap also provides a very nice interlude to the album. One of my favorites. 4.5/5 From The Inside: A very varied (is that correct grammatically? :D) composition of almost all of Linkin Park's rapping and singing styles. A little weird compared to the "classic" LP songs, but still very good. 3.5/5 Nobody's Listening: Really nice flute effects, and some good rapping. It's far more quiet and composed than most Linkin Park songs, and it is almost devoid of Chester screeching. 3.5/5 Session: People ask me how I can consider an instrumental to be the best track on a CD. I believe this song shows it. Some of the most amazing scratch work I have EVER heard, by any artist. Awesome drumming, and really nice background melody. One of my favorite songs, ever. This is really a song you can "zone out" to. 5+/5 Numb: One of the best songs on the CD... Unlike Somewhere I Belong and In The End, it's endless radio play has not caused it to turn to crap in my mind. 4.5/5 Note: All of these ratings are in terms of Linkin Park songs... Even a 2/5 beats the crap out of any other pop or rap artist's songs.
Free Music Review: Sophomore Slump - THIS IS NOT! Hit: 5 Stars
For the months leading up to this new release I had only one thought on my mind: "Sophomore Slump." Nothing worried me more than Linkin Park falling into one with their new album. Ladies and gentlemen, I am hear to tell you confidently that they DID NOT fall into one. They have managed to put enough time and energy into this CD, insuring that they would not fall into a sophomore slump. This CD efficiantly takes off where Hybrid Theory left off. You can tell that they have definately matured since their last album--Is that possible? Here is a review of the songs on this CD:1. Foreward -- This is just a brief intro. into the Don't Stay 2. Don't Stay -- Very good song to kick off the CD. It has a lot of energy to it. Much in the tradition of Hybrid Theory. Easily one of the best songs on the album. 9/10 3. Somewhere I Belong -- This is the first single, and i'm sure many people have no doubt already heard this song. Good combination of rap and rock. Best song on the album. 10/10 4. Lying From You -- Very good song. The hook into the chorus is excellent. Could have been a little longer though. 8/10 5. Hit The Floor == This song has a really good intro. to it. Good flow from the verse to the chorus. However, the chorus gets a little old. This reminds me of a Sevendust song for some reason. 7/10 6. Easier To Run -- I absoloutely LOVE this song. Very good slow tempo rock song. In my opinion this is the second best song on the album. 10/10 7. Faint -- This song starts has a really weird melody going in the background. However, it is very hard and energetic. Chester's vocals are very powerful in this song. 8/10 8. Figure .09 -- WOAH! This song has got some awesome guitar work to it. Probably the best combination of rap and rock on the whole album. My 3rd favorite song. 10/10 9. Breaking The Habit -- Ehh... Pretty good song. Another effort at a slower song. This sounds like a dance song from the 80's for some reason. This is my least favorite song the album. Not too bad though. 6/10 10. From The Inside -- Glad to see that they pick it up again after the previous song. This song reminds me of the In The End from their last album. Very good song. 9/10 11. Nobody's Listening -- Heehhe... okay so they went a little too rap on this song, but I still like it. REALLY cool how they were able to work Chester's vocals into a pretty much full rap song. 7/10 12. Session -- Eery song with a heavy industrial feel to it. Another instrumental song much like Cure For The Itch. This one has some excellent DJ work. 8/10 13. Numb -- Perfect song to close out the album with. Very beautiful piano work on it. Another powerful rock ballad from Linkin Park. Bravo! 10/10
Free Music Review: Linkin Park comes back with a MASTERPIECE!!! Hit: 5 Stars
Linkin Park has spent a year and a half on a follow up to Hybrid Theory and came back with something 5 times as good. A lot of people are complaining that the CD is too short. That's because if they worked on too much material, there would probably be more filler. As you may of noticed, there is not really a second of filler on Meteora. Here's a track by track run down:1. Foreword: this intro is only 13 seconds and pointless. All it is is some hammering sounds leading to the next song. 1.5 stars 2. Don't Stay: This is a heavy song with no rap. It sounds a lot like One Step Closer, but has sweet turn tables and yelling from Chester. 3.5 stars 3. Somewhere I Belong: the first single off Meteora has great emotion in the intro with the keyboards and great rapping and singing. 4 stars 4. Lying From You: Definantly one of the best songs. Has a great keyboard intro. Has incredible energy from the whole band and still maintain the emotion while still rocking hard. 5 stars 5. Hit the Floor: A little more edgy reminiscant of Hybrid Theory. Has a great screaming chorus with cool rapping. Great sounding instruments.3.5 stars 6. Easier to Run: Sounds a lot like Crawling, but a lot better. Chester really developed his voice and no longer has any scratchiness. 4 stars 7. Faint: Another one of the best tracks. Fast beat and rapid screaming give this song an energy no other tack has. Has cool techno elements in the beginning with strings. 5 stars 8. Figure 9: This song is a little hard to get into at first, but later it's a great mid tempo song.3 stars 9. Breaking The Habit: Definantly a step forward for LP. Again, no rapping, but a great ballad and great beat and melody. Chester's singing his amazing, he goes up about a whole octave in the chorus. 3 stars 10. From the Inside: Again, hard to get into at first. Great rap-rock mix in the verses and nice ballad type chorus. 3.5 stars 11. Nobody's Listening: This song is my personal fav. I'm not a huge fan of rap but the rapping is amazing as well as the beat and the melody played by some African flutes (probably synthesized). Chester again sings an amazing chourus with a hip-hop feel. 5 stars 12. Session: This is the only song I felt wasn't as good as Hybrid Theory. This is an instrumental, but no where near as good as Cure for the Itch off of Hybrid. A cool beat and turntables, but just not enough melody or variety as Cure for the Itch. 3 stars 13. Numb: This last song sounds a lot like the last one on Hybrid. Sweet samples and a great hook make this song what it is. It's another rock ballad with great singing by Chester. 4.5 stars Definantly pick up this album!!! E-mail me with any comments
Free Music Review: Amazing Sophomore Album Hit: 5 Stars
A lot of bands have been hit hard by the sophomore jinx, Linkin Park is not one of them. Meteora is an absolutely amazing album. LP has refined their nearly perfect sound and released the best album since Disturbed's "Believe." Unlike Disturbed, however, LP hasn't changed their sound, they are still the same Linkin Park from Hybrid Theory. The complex samples by Mr. Hahn and the amazing vocal combination of Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda that have come to define LP's sound are still there, along with the exremely complicated druming of Rob Bourdin, the overlooked talent of Guitarist Brad Delson, and the always underappriciated bass guitar played by Phoenix. That being said, pick up "Meteora," it is quite possibly the best album in the rap-rock genre, aside from "Hybrid Theory," which it could surpass after more times through. Let me give you the run-through of the songs: 1.Foreward - a 13 sec. intro 2.Don't Stay - 5/5 - a hard hitting opener that accurately shows the sound of this album...possibly my favorite song 3.Somewhere I Belong - 5/5 - The first single from this album, I wasn't a huge fan of the song when I first heard it, but it has certainly grown on me. Mr. Hahn's samples are amazing in this song. 4.Lying From You - 5/5 - Another hard hitting song that displays Joseph Hahn's talent. Chester's vocals on this song are great and have a lot of emotion. 5.Hit the Floor - 4/5 - As the band says, this song is "heavy with a hip-hop bounce," and it is. The vocals are mostly by Mike, with Chester in the background. 6.Easier to Run - 4/5 - A song with a softer sound, reminiscent of "Pushing Me Away" on Hybrid Theory. Check out the complex drums by Rob, they are awesome. 7.Faint - 5/5 - Fast paced song with heavy guitars. 8.Figure.09 - 5/5 - Another heavy song with a great guitar riff. 9.Breaking the Habit - 5/5 - Great song that is mostly Chester singing over Mr. Hahn's scratchs and samples. It's a sound different from the rest of the album, but it fits well. 10.From the Inside - 4/5 - Signature LP sound, soft verses with a heavy chorus. 11.Nobody's Listening - 4/5 - Probably the oddest song on the album, It's Chester and Mike singing over samples and a japanese flute. 12.Session - 3/5 - I'm not a huge fan of the insturmentals, so this is probably my least favorite song. The samples and scratches are extremely complex, however, so you have to restect the talent involved. 13.Numb - 5/5 - Funny how my favorite songs are the ones that begin and end the CD. Numb is a great closure to a great CD.
