Free Music Notes for Minutes to MidnightFree Music Review: Not what fans are looking for. Hit: 2 StarsLinkin Park made some mistakes with this album.
I'm a stong believer in bands evolving and changing over time, but going from a punk/rock/rap band to a ballad band in one CD is too much to put on your fans.
Besides their drastic change in tone, they also introduced vulgar language (which has never stopped me from buying a CD before, but I always enjoyed that I could pop their CD in without hearing the profanity), and, *gasp* politics. Seriously. Bands like LP should be forced to put warning labels on their CDs if they plan on spouting mindless rederick and shallow political views. This is ENTERTAINMENT not REAL LIFE.
I was SO disapointed when I finished this one. I've even been hoping it will grow on me, putting it in the CD player once or twice a month. Nope. I won't even wear the T-Shirt I got with my $30 pre-order.
I'll be reading some reviews before blindly buying their next album. The only reason I gave it two stars is Bleed it Out. It spoke of early Likin Park, even though they did use profanity.
Overall a poor effort. Two-thumbs down.
Free Music Review: Finally, something worthy of the band that released Metora! Hit: 5 StarsI have been listening to this CD for weeks now in my car, I just love it. It is one of the few CD's where I don't even need to skip tracks I just hit shuffle and go. This album, in my eyes anyway, really redeemed Linkin Park after LPJZ which was just awful (spare me the hate replies if you liked it, this is my opinion and a way to judge the album before you buy it). This album is more melodic than Hybrid Theory, Reanimation, and LPJZ and is, as I said, a brilliant successor to Metora. The songs are well written, well played, and well conceived and I am yet to meet a Metora lover who didn't like this album as well. If you enjoy style of bands like Greenday, Blue October, My Chemical Romance, or AFI you will probably enjoy Minuets to Midnight. The above in mind, it is almost impossible to accurately rate music and artwork so listen to it before ya buy it. Theres my two cents, take it or leave it.
Free Music Review: Give it some time... Hit: 4 StarsNow, I've seen a lot of reviews listed discussing how this album doesn't reflect the rough, anger-fueled music of the Linkin Park of the past, and after my first listen this is the same feeling I had.
But then I gave it another shot. And another. I gave it time to soak into my mind. I asked myself, "Why did Linkin Park decide to take this lighter sound?". Then I realized that they decided to take the approach of letting the lyrics speak for themselves instead of forcing the sound into the listener. Give this album some time, look past what it is missing from the older Linkin Park albums and see what it has gained. I have done this and I believe that "Minutes to Midnight" is as good as "Meteora".
Free Music Review: No, it's not the Bible Hit: 4 StarsIt's just a good album, with a bit less rapping, a bit more lyrical depth, and a bit more subtlety than the first two.
I can see why rabid Hybrid Theory fans would be annoyed, but I also think they're missing out.
