Free Music Notes for Reanimation (Dig)Free Music Review: An altered but still great performance from LP. Hit: 5 Stars
Althoough many LP fans and newcomers alike have trashed this album by branding it a "techno rehash" with too much rap, I still consider it to be a truly great CD, and one that LP should be proud of. In order to fully appriciate this CD, however, you must 1) have already thoroughly listened to Hybrid Theory, and 2) not minded the rap in it. Here's a listing of the tracks: 1. Opening- This is just a 30-second Irish bagpipe/violin intro and provides the beginning for the last song. 2. Pts.Of.Athrty- This is relatively unchanged from "Points of Authority" in terms of lyrics and core sound. Techno, a new hyped up beat, voice echoing, and the removal of the line "You live what you learn" after every chorus verse except the last are this song's main changes. This might actually be louder than the original. 3. Enth E Nd- Completely changed from "In the End", this is now completely a hip-hop rap song and has none of the atmospheric and moody feel it once had. This is also the first of the songs where not only are the lyrics changed a bit, but also the artist who remixed the song steps in with a [long] rap verse of his own. 4. Chali- A relatively pointless 20-second phone call. 5. Frgt/10- Very similar to "Enth E Nd" in terms of major changes. This song, however, is much more dark and moody, but has lost its heavy rock sound in "Forgotten" in return for a beep-driven atmospheric rap sound. The guest rapper here sounds fairly intimidating. 6. Pshng Me A*wy- Very different from "Pushing Me Away", but much better as it turns out. The chorus is different, but still has the screaming lyrics. The second verse breaks into a piano-driven melody that holds true to the original one and gives the song a more moody feel. A very good song, better than the original. 7. Plc.4 Mie Haed- If you didn't like the excessive rap in the original "Place For My Head", you will really hate this, an almost all-rap song with extra techno clips and a guest rapper thrown in. I don't listen to this much. Not a great song. 8. X-Ecutioner Style- This, along with track 9, are probably what gives this album its bad name to some. This is basic trash rap, with a guest rapper also added. I have only heard this song twice; I skip it all the time. 9. H! Vltg3- A remix from an imported Hybrid Theory song, "High Voltage", but still basic trash rap with clips from a whole bunch of LP songs thrown in with a bunch of annoying disc-scratching. Very bad and annoying. A must-skip. 10. Riff Raff- Another 20-second phone call. 11. Wth>You- Basically an enhanced version of "With You", with a guest rapper added at the bridge. Just as good as the original, although every other normal rap verse sounds muffled. 12. Ntr/Mssion- LP's version of an intermission; basically the exact same thing as "Opening". 13. Ppr:Kut- A cut down and remixed version of "Papercut", this song's raw loudness has been toned down and coupled with tons of techno add-ins and two guest rappers, who both can't keep up with the speed of LP's rapper. The end has been tampered with too. 14. Rnw@y- This is actually better than the original "Runaway", and adds a guest rapper at the bridge as well as some nice water-sounding effects at the beginning. Every other chorus verse, which are "And Never Say Goodbye", "And Never Wonder Why", and "No More Lies", have been taken out, and by this you can easily tell the original from the remix. The lyrics are slightly changed too. This is louder than the original. 15. My<Dsmbr- The better of the two imported Hybrid Theory songs, this incarnation of "My December" is a lot softer than traditional LP music. A nice soft beat, techno effects, and nice vocal harmonies give this song a very atmospheric feel. One of the best songs on the CD. 16. Stef- Another pointless phone call. Why put these in, anyway? 17. By_Myslf- Whereas the rap and bridge of the original "By Myself" were rather soft and moody, this song makes them rather upbeat and loud. Otherwise, however, this is just a more techno-ish sounding version of the original. 18. Kyur4 Th Ich- This adds a lot more techno to the orignial "Cure for the Itch", but it is basically the same instrumental it was. 19. 1Stp Klosr- A much better version of "One Step Closer", if you're willing to listen past the 2-minute intro. This adds a sadistic screaming chant to the "Shut Up" bridge, and is a lot louder than the original was. A very good song. 20. Krwlng- Both "Opening" and "Ntr/Mssion" lead up to this, the last and by far the best song on the CD. Very dark, moody, haunting, and atmospheric. It starts out just like the other two, and is similar to Track 19 in that its intro is extremely long. Eventually the familiar electronic beep music will start, however, and the song just gets better and better with every second. Eventually at the end it blasts you with the final loudness of the original "Crawling" that is louder than original. A great track. Well, that's the CD. In my opinion, LP's finest until Meteora, and a CD that is always in my rotation. If you liked Hybrid Theory, go buy this.
Free Music Review: Success. 'Nuff said, buy it. Hit: 5 Stars
With the variety in this remix CD, it makes sense to rate it track-by-track, as compared to the original and on its own. 5 tracks are interludes, so they won't be rated. Here we go:2. Pts.Of.Athrty - 6/5 stars - Jay Gordon injected a certain pulse to this song with a heavy drum beat and compelling guitar sounds. The vocals remain fairly intact as per Hybrid Theory, with some sound effects. Overall, a genius performance, meriting 6 out of 5. 3. ENth E Nd - 6/5 - An addictive beat coupled with nice scratches, wonderfully remixed electronic piano that is faintly reminiscent of the original, and rap stylings from Kutmaster Kurt and Mike Shinoda make this one a total success. 5. Frgt/10 - 4/5 - The remix is very rap-inclined, moreso than the original, which seemed to me to be rock-inclined with heavier guitars. Still a nice listen, with a steady beat and new lyrics, but if you bought the first for the rock, you won't enjoy this one as much as the rest. 6. P5hng Me A*wy - 5/5 - Retains a light, far-away drum beat, even through the chorus, which features new lyrics. I personally think the song would be suited better with a heavier overtone in both the drums and the lyrics, but as it stands, it's perfectly fine. 7. Plc.4 Mie HÆd - 5/5 - A sparse beginning riff and beat are followed swiftly by a heavy chorus. Picks up near the end with a heavy, constant riff and hard drums, and the yelling throughout. Great song, but the only good part is after the bridge near the end. 8. X-Ecutioner Style - 3/5 - A quick scratch-fest with lyrics performed by friends The X-Ecutioners. Surely for the rap listeners; rockers can skip this without much remorse. 9. H! Vltg3 - 3/5 - Behind pretty much the whole song is piano. The downside is that it's the exact same note over and over and over again... quite annoying. The presence of absolutely any riff behind it would've helped it some. 11. Wth>you - 7/5 - Half the reason I bought this thing. 'With You' was, IMHO, the best song on Hybrid Theory. In the beginning, the difference isn't quite so apparent (and almost doesn't exist), but the bridge is a whole new verse that brings out the true meaning of the song and a wonderful piano accompaniment, which carries to the chorus. Absolute genius. Best on this album. 13. Ppr:Kut - 6/5 - The theme of paranoia in the original is brought out by rampant lyrical repeat effects. The bass line, though sparse, adds depth. The chorus, though short, is very energetic, with a riff that will make your heart speed up. The whole song, including the rap section, makes your heart race and really conveys the panicky insanity in the lyrics. Success. 14. Rnw@y - 5/5 - Steady beat and new lyrics compose the verses; the chorus is quite repetitive, though. The fast rap bridge by Backyard Bangers picks up the beat a bit. A nice listen, but gets tedious. 15. My{Dsmbr - 6/5 - Here's where the album picks up. The addition of real, audible drums creates contrast with the relaxing musical effects, Kelli Ali's calming voice, and the original message. That's what makes this song so great. Undoubtedly an unforgettable experience; has a psychologically stirring effect on the disenfranchised that riles you for the upcoming final songs. 17. By_Myslf - 6/5 - Heavy drums and sparse, heavy guitars mingle with Chester and Mike's lyrical energy to keep you interested in the beginning. The addition of Joe Hahn's synthesized sounds in the final pre-chorus dominate the song and leave you begging for more. 18. Kyur4 Th Ich - 6/5 - Joe Hahn includes a nice beat with mystifying scratches and effects on lyric samples from the band's earliest material (when they were called Hybrid Theory). This song succeeds with flying colors, even without true lyrics. 19. 1Stp Klosr - 5/5 - It's the DVD remix with an added verse and final chorus voice by KoRn's Jonathan Davis. The beginning is quite tedious; fans of the original are let waiting for quite a bit (2 minutes) for anything that really resembles it. After the first verse is a chorus played to the aforementioned tedious music, which leaves much to be desired. Davis then kicks in; his additions double the energy put forth from the original. 20. Krwlng - 6/5 - Perfect for the end of the album; the violin throughout reminds you of the opening violin, both of which are by Phoenix. This makes you want to start the whole album over again. The song itself is, throughout the beginning, quite like the original, but the lack of heavy drums allows your energy to subside quietly. Their appearance later leaves you waiting for more. Aaron Lewis' voice adds power and emotion to a song that's already a cesspool of feeling. All of the ingredients here work together to form the perfect ending, and for this, merits the extra star. Overall: This is truly the work of musical genius. Though much of the foundation, Hybrid Theory, was left to shrivel, what we now have retains the best and adds better. Even the amazing, makes-you-jealous artwork reflects that this really is a new beginning to something that was exceptional to begin with.
Free Music Review: Best LP CD! Hit: 5 Stars
When I heard the the second Linkin Park CD was nothing more than a remix of the first one, I was thinking that it would most likely not be as good as the first one. Boy was I suprised! I nearly jumped out of my chair after listening to it! The only way for me to describe this CD is to rate every song on it :01 : Opening Rating - N/A This is a very smooth, soft opening. It gets you ready for the next [awsome]song... 02 : Pts.Of.Athrty Rating - 5/5 This song may not be the best (in my opinion) on the CD, but it sure is a great one to put in the begining. If you've heard all of the Hybrid Theory songs and loved them, then you'll find yourself jumping to this one. 03 : Enth E Nd Rating - 4/5 Unlike the one in Hybrid Theory which is total rockish, this one has been converted to more of a rap-type style. Of course, it still kix, but if you're not a rap fan, you probably won't enjoy the song as much as you did the original version. 05 : Frgt/10 Rating - 3/5 Notice I skip some tracks because they're nothing but talking. This song has been changed to a much softer version than it's original. It keeps a nice beat and is still a good song, but doesn't fully make it to the best of the album. 06 : P5hng Me A*wy Rating - 4/5 This one is more like it's original than any other on this CD. It keeps the same type of beat, but just has a different taste to it. You'd have to experience it to understand. After this slowish song, we move on to the really good stuff... 07 : Plc. 4 Mie Haed Rating - 5/5 This one is also one of the best on the CD. It's been changed from rock, to more of a rock/rap one. It really keeps a good hard beat. This one might give you goosebumps! 08 : X-Ecutioner Style Rating - 4/5 If this were actually a full song, it could have gotten a full 5 rating, but it only lasted for about 2 minutes. It's got VERY NICE DJ-ing going through out the entire song. 09 : H! Vltg3 Rating - 4/5 I personally like this song a lot, but I know many people who don't like it at all. It has a good hitting bass beat to it. It's nothing like it's original though. It's original had more of a rap style to it and now it's been converted to basically even higher forms of rap. 11 : Wth>You Rating - 4/5 It's original was probably a bit better. It's got almost too much rock in it. It has it's goods and bads. It depends on who you are and what you like. Listen to it! 13 : Ppr:Kut Rating - 5/5 I'll admit that the original was PROBABLY better, but it is very close! It's got a more rap thing going on in it, but is sure does make you want to bob your head to it. 14 : Rnw@y Rating - 4/5 This song has basically just more beat to it than the original. It's like Linkin Park has just decided to play the same track, but just add more beat to it. It's really good! 15 : My<Dsmbr Rating - 4/5 It really depends on if you like a lot of bass or not. The original was so soft ans smooth. This one is about the same, except it's got some HARD bass hitting and a bit of extra rock that doesn't ruin the soft exterior. Again, it depends on what you like. 17 : By_Myslf Rating - 5/5 This one is by far a GREAT song. The bass is so greatly put on this song. If you have a great car system and you play this song, you'll think at first that it is just going to play some [nothing] beat. You'll find yourself turning your volume and bass up and then find out that your head will be hitting the windshield from the massive amount of bass this song actually gives out about 10 seconds from the intro of it. All-in-all, it's probably the best song on the album, if not 1Stp Klosr. It's a good tie. 18 : Kyur4 Th Ich Rating - 4/5 It's a remix of a good mix. The original might have been a bit better. I can't really explain this one too well. 19 : 1Stp Klosr Rating - 5/5 Probably the actual best song on the album. If you liked the original, you're guaranteed to LOVE this one. It will give you an extreme case of goosebumps when Jonathan Davis comes into play. It all starts smooth and shows you how technical LP can get... after about a good few minutes of playing around with high-quality hits, the song breaks out and will leave you with your mouth hanging. Awesome song! 20 : Krwlng Rating - 3/5 It starts out like the Opening did and slowly gets up into the song. It is slow all the way through, but it doesn't seem to match the perfection of it's original version.
Free Music Review: The Reanimation Of Hybrid Theory Hit: 5 Stars
There are good remix albums, and there are bad remix albums. An example of a bad remix album would be "New Old Songs" by Limp Bizkit, with people like Puffdaddy and a million remixes of My Way. A good example of a remix album would be Reanimation, which includes lesser known but far more talented artists.
Some people probably wrote off purchasing Reanimation because it's essentially a remix of the entire first Linkin Park album, Hybrid Theory. But there's some great material on this CD, as well as some great special appearances from not only hip hop artists, but singers from other rock bands.
Here's a quick rundown of the tracks:
OPENING - This track sets a theme for the entire album, which gets brought back a few times during the CD. It's really short but awesome. The violin and piano are awesome. (5 out of 5)
PTS.OF.ATHRTY - A great opening track to the CD, I like this song just as much as the original, if not a little bit more. Nice techno beats and special effects. (5 out of 5)
ENTH E ND - Pretty tight song. While I like the original better, I like how Mike changed up the lyrics for this one to make it a little different. Motion Man is pretty tight too. (5 out of 5)
FRGT/10 - Really tight beat on this song, I actually like this version better than the original. Nice raps from Chali 2na on this one. (5 out of 5)
P5HNG ME A*WY - One of the best songs on the album, and another song I like better than the original. The extra lyrics from Stephen Richards go well with the song and add even more emotion and feeling. Also one of the tracks Mike produced himself. (5 out of 5)
PLC.4 MIE HAED - Tight beat and tight rhymes. I like the intro sample that loops at the beginning. The piano is tight too. (5 out of 5)
X-ECUTIONER STYLE - This song is an original song from the X-Ecutioners made for the album, mixing samples from several LP songs. Black Thought is awesome on this track. (5 out of 5)
H! VLTG3 - A remix of a remix lol but this is probably my favorite version of High Voltage. Pharoahe Monch does some tight lyrics, and of course Mike's lyrics are tight (although still censored). Great track. (5 out of 5)
WTH>YOU - Pretty tight song, I like the techno-y feel of the song. Aceyalone puts down some tight lyrics at the end. (5 out of 5)
NTR\MSSION - An interlude to the next song, bringing back the theme of the first track. Nice piano solo. (5 out of 5)
PPR:KUT - Another great remix. Some nice rhymes mixed with a darker hip hop feel than the original. Still heavy on guitar though. (5 out of 5)
RNW@Y - Didn't like this one as much as the original, but it's alright. (4 out of 5)
MY>DSMBR - This track is awesome, I didn't like the original My December that much but I like the remix a lot. (5 out of 5)
BY_MYSLF - I like the beat on this one. Not my favorite song on the album but I like it slightly better than the original. (4 out of 5)
KYUR4 TH ICH - Mr. Hahn (or Chairman Hahn lol) does a remix of his DJ track from Hybrid Theory. It's pretty tight too. (5 out of 5)
1STP KLOSR - Pretty tight remix featuring Jonathan Davis of Korn. (5 out of 5)
KRWLNG - The beginning of the song sounds almost exactly like the first track, and features violin and cello throughout the song. This has to be the best song on the album. Aaron Lewis' voice blends in perfect harmony with Chester's singing. The violin and cello (played by Phoenix) is very soothing and adds a lot of depth to an already emotional song. Another song produced by Mike, it's the crowning jewel of Reanimation. (5 out of 5)
In short, I think that Reanimation is a great CD that Linkin Park fans should definitely check out. Even if you don't like remix albums, there's a couple awesome songs on here (like P5HNG ME A*WY and KRWLNG). And who knows, you might like the rest of the album too.
Free Music Review: Varied and Awesome Hit: 5 Stars
I waited for Linkin Park Reanimation for a long long time, and my expectation was so high, I thought i'd be let down, but I was still greatly suprised, not because of how good it was, but becuase of what the content was. All the songs remixes are original and differant and every track has it's own feel. The remixers chosen were obviously very talented and the guest rappers are also on par with amazing. They bring a whole new feel to the songs. This CD is the next step of the "Hybrid Theory", meshing rock and rap to a new degree. I do not mind about all the hip hop, I like hip hop as well as alternate rock. And all the reviewers saying papercut and in the end sound exactly the same didn't actually BUY the album, but downloaded a few tracks, which I also did, but bought the album ANYWAY, an pleasently found the tracks on the net were fakes and not really from the album. The opening feature chello and viola played by pheonix that is the same used in the last song, crawling, which is a nice way to start of. The points of authority remix is very industrial and is highly enjoyable. In the end is an awesome hip hop remix, with great production, and awesome rapping from both parties involved. Definately leans towards the hip hop scope of this album. These two will releasing their own album in august 20th, and I will sure keep an ear out for it. Forgotten is a strange track that has a kind of haunting dark rap feeling to it and the guest rapper from Jurassic 5, although sounding strange, has something to say. Pushing me away is a good reinterpretation with new singing, new guitars and a guest singer, who sounds slightly odd, the lead singer from taproot, place for my head is an OK remix. It is quite enjoyable, but is no the most enjoyable song on the album by far. X-ecutioner style is not very enjoyable and in my opinion, this is the weakest rapper on the cd. Just skip this track if you've got the remote already in your hand, otherwise, let it play, it's not too long. High Voltage is an excellant rap song, couples with a strong guest rapper, the undergorund talent of pharoah monch, who I have heard much of before. With you, with new guitars and screaming, is an awesome rock rap workout, with an awesome sounding rapper, aceyalone, who almost sounds like he could be a nu-metal rapper on his own. Papercut is an awesome remix, and has a very good chorus and a good rapper. One of my favourite songs on the album, with very good production. Runaway is a cool song, with a new rapper and differant chorus this is worth numerous listens. By myslef is a simply produced song with no new rapper or anything, just the whole song remixed with new guitars and i s a rock rap workout to the fullest. One of the best and fastest hardest songs on the album. cure for the itch remix is cool, bring in elements from the song points of authority and even 'step up' from the HYBRID THEORY EP. Definately brought some memories back and was recorded at his parents house (Cool!). 1 step closer is an awesome remix which the chorus is delayed and when it finally hits, it is awesome and was pleasently suprised that Jonathon Davis's contribution is awesome and really adds to the feeling, the last song crawling featuring the same cello and viola in the intro, is mindblowing. The duet with Aaron Lewis is awesome and the song ends perfectly. Lastly, my december is an awesome slow somber song, although I would have like to hear more of the female singer kelli ali, or something like that. Overall, an EXCELLENT album i will be in heavy rotation for a long time to come. A mindblowing mix of rap and rock, seamlessly integrated into a single amazing cd. Worth every penny.
