Free Music Review: An Introduction to Rap
Hit: 5 Stars

Let me get one thing straight at the beginning. I have never been a fan of popular music at the time it was popular. My tastes usually lag about 5-10 years behind the rest of the world (except for some indie stuff), which is why I just got this record. Needless to say, I've never gotten into rap, hip-hop, or anything similar. I've always been a rock/alternative/classic rock kind of guy.

I enjoy Linkin Park, because I like that it's a little offbeat, if you'll pardon the pun. Nobody is going to say that Mike Shinoda is one of the better rappers in the world, but the fact that he does what he does in a band that is otherwise metal makes him very interesting, and I have always been a sucker for the unique, regardless of genre. So when I found Reanimation, which is the same old Linkin Park but with more of an emphasis on the part that made them unique, I was instantly intrigued.

Simply put, it's pretty damn good. The remixes are different enough from the originals to be thoroughly worth buying (especially from Marketplace), but they're still loyal to the originals enough to see the influence. "Frgt10," the remix of "Forgotten," is my personal favorite on the album for this reason - the chorus is very similar to the original, but the verses feature all-new raps by the guest artists, and the music has been utterly mangled into a bleak simplicity that mirrors the theme of the words. That's not to say that everything is overly artsy and deep; "Enth E Nd," Kutmaster Kurt and Motion Man's remix of my favorite Park song, "In The End," is one of a few that are still good for blasting out of the car on the highway.

If you like Linkin Park at all, buy this CD. If you like good rock music but are looking for a change of pace, buy this CD. If you like rap, I can't tell you what to do, because I don't, but you should probably buy this CD.

Free Music Review: Better Than Hybrid Theory
Hit: 5 Stars

I got this CD the yesterday and have already listened to it three times through. Here is my review for the seperate songs.

1.Opening (2/5)- This is just Phoenix playing the violin and cello for about half a minute

2. Pts.Of.Athrty (500/5)- This song alone made me want this CD. One of the two best songs.(Points Of Authority)

3. Enth E Nd (3/5)- It's an OK song, but the original is much better.(In The End)

4. [Chali] (0.25/5)- This can't really be reviewed because it is just an answering machine message

5. Frgt/10 (4/5)- One of the songs you could hear on linkinpark.com. This version is good but the original is better.(Forgotten)

6. P5hng Me A*wy (4/5)- A good remix of a good song.(Pushing Me Away)

7. Plc.4 Mie Haed (3.5/5)- An OK remix. (A Place For My Head)

8. X-Ecutioner Style (4/5)- Elements of One Step Closer and Forgotten.

9. H! Vltg3 (2/5)- The original song is only available to people who don't live in the US. This song is the worst song on the CD. For some reason they edited this.(High Voltage)

10.[Riff Raff] (0.25/5)- See [Chali]

11. Wth>You (4/5)- A good remix.(With You)

12. Ntr\Mssion (2/5)- See Opening

13. Ppr:kut (4/5)- Good but the original was better.(Papercut)

14. Rnw@y (4/5)- Better than the original.(Runaway)

15. My<Dsmbr (4/5)- Not available originally in the US. Really soft but sticks in your head.(My December)

16. [Stef] (0.25/5)- See [Chali]

17. By_Myslf (4/5)- A good remix of a good song.(By Myself)

18. Kyur4 Th Ich (4/5)- Good music.(Cure For The Itch)

19. 1stp Klosr (500000/5)- When Jonathan Davis comes in, this sounds like it could be a Korn song.(One Step Closer)

20. Krwlng (5/5)- Aaron Lewis is great in this song. It's too long, though.

Pts.Of.Athrty, 1stp Klosr, and Krwlng made this CD better than the original

Free Music Review: Artistic Hip Hop/Rock
Hit: 5 Stars

I just went out and got this CD today (July 30th, I even did what they said to which is to wear your Linkin Park T-Shirt to the store that day so everyone knows that you are there for the new CD and to see all the other LP fans) and am very happy with it. The only thing that makes me sad is that Chester was mostly put to the back of the album. They just put in his samples and have Mike Shinoda change up the song. It is mostly an effort by Joe Hahn and Mike Shinoda.

This album shouldn't be reviewed as a Linkin Park album, it should be reviewed as a remix album. This is totally different than their usual stuff. It's mostly overhauled from it's usual self. The artwork is great with nice colors and a totally different feel. Even the titles of the songs have changed. Points of Authority has changed to PTS.OF.ATHRTY and the rest is changed the same way. I think it was fun decoding the titles before I even listened to it.

P5HNG ME A*WY is probably one of the best remixes on the CD. It shows Chester's voice rawly. Some of the lyrics have been changed and remixed while keeping to the Linkin Park name. Special guests include KoRn's Jonathan Davis, Staind's Aaron Lewis, and Linkin Park's hip hop friend the X-ecutioners. Mostly this is a electronica, rock, and hip hop album. Yet again the band has taken their art to a new level with Reanimation.

Overall, this CD has a different hip hop/electronica/rock hybrid. I know the Linkin Park fans will be a little disappointed with a totally hip hop/electronica but I am not. If you are disappointed with this effort than wait and hope for the next original release that should be coming out by the end of the year. For now, Linkin Park "Reanimation" will be in my CD player until they come out with another.

Free Music Review: My favorite Linkin Park CD
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is awesome. But it's neither traditional Linkin Park nor really a traditional remix CD. And I wouldn't call it "rock" but more something like a blend of rap, techno and Linkin Park-style rock.

For one, there isn't a huge amount that is different about Linkin Park's vocals (that is, the lead singer's) from the original songs and this CD. What does change is the background music (changes a lot, moving more towards techno, drum-and-bass and hip-hop) and the addition of several guest artists (great rappers like Chali and others). So if you're looking for a CD that duplicates what you've heard Linkin Park do elsewhere, this isn't it. It's closer to Collision Course w/ Jay-Z than to Hybrid Theory. But, as a hip-hop fan, I like this CD more than anything else LP has done.

Be sure to check out the sample tracks and see if you agree (especially if you aren't a hip-hop fan). If you like rap, listen to Frgt/10 first (track 5)- though the sample they give you does so little credit to the track, especially since they don't let you hear Chali's amazing verse. If you like Techno or Trance, try My{Dsmbr first (track 15). If you want to try more sort-of-classic LP stuff, try Rnw@y (track 14).

I was surprised to read the other reviews which don't seem to agree with me. But that doesn't change my opinion that this is one of the best CDs, if not the best, that Linkin Park has put out. And I should note- if you like this, check out Fort Minor's stuff. I don't like it as much as this, but when Mike broke away from LP for the solo project, I think that it hurt the chances LP would do many more projects like Reanimation. Collision Corse is worth checking out too, but it's not as solid as Reanimation is.

Free Music Review: Endless list of Hip-Hoppers REDEFINES rap-metal!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album begins with a strange, unexpected, classical tune in the opening. Then they jump right into the music with the remix to "Points of Authority", the first single of this remix album. Then, fans of Linkin Park are treated to well-worked versions of the songs from HYBRID THEORY. Most of the tracks include fresh, new beats, and more hip-hop verses provided by the likes of "Chali 2NA" from Jurassic 5, and "DJ Babu" from The Beat Junkies. The music is stalled, skipped, and scratched to perfection by those remixing the tracks. The intermission continues the strange classical music series of tracks taking place. The rock fan of Linkin Park won't be dissapointed as the album closes with remixes of LP's first two singles ("One Step Closer", and "Crawling"), featuring Jonathan Davis of Korn, and Aaron Lewis of Staind helping with the hooks of those respective tracks. The strange, classical tracks are ended with the final "Crawling" remix. This truly HYBRID album also includes mixes of "My December", and "High Voltage", the songs released with CD singles or the DVD. In addition, the track "X-Ecutioner Style" gives the group their plug with a sort of Linkin Park Mega-Mix, and for no apparent reason, the album also includes three messages from Mike Shinoda's voicemail. All in all, an excellent album.

Best Tracks: Wth> You [Way better than the original.],

Enth E Nd [Just when this song became unbearable to listen to (because of the radio station, not the band), Motion Man and Mike Shinoda make you love it again!]

Worst Track: Kyur4 Th Ich [Hard to remix what is just a bunch of scratches to begin with! Still better than it is worse.]
