Free Music Review: Interesting Reinterpretation of Hybrid Theory

When news first broke out that Linkin Park was doing a remix album, I was less than thrilled. Normally I hate remixes and despite Mike Shinoda (the band's rapper) saying it would be more than remix album, I was still hesistent. It was similar to how they referred to Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes" as a reimagining. Anyway, I recently had the good fortune of catching this album on MTV2's Playback. I was shocked. These new versions of my favorite songs were actually good! Some songs are much better than others. Personally, I think they killed "In the End" but the rest of the CD makes up for it. Some songs received a much needed makeover. "One Step Closer" is much better this time around. "Pushing Me Away" and "A Place For My Head" have new twists. Other songs such as "My December" and "With You" sound new and old at the same time. I think the best remix is the last one, "Crawling." If you're going to buy this disc, I suggest you buy their first album, Hybrid Theory, if you haven't already. You need to hear the first album in order to appreciate this one.
