Free Music Review: Two words: About Time
Hit: 5 Stars

From the booklet: "Lionel likes to reflect. He loves to talk music."

Of course he does. Wouldn't you if you had as much success as he's had for the last 20 + years? The Definitive Collection follows the example of Richie's previous two compilations, Back To Front and Truly: The Love Songs, in that it includes big hits from both Lionel Richie's stay with The Commodores and his solo projects. But it's not exactly like those two previous compilations, it's better.

For one, it's expanded to 20 songs, including 2 new recordings. What Lionel Richie is best known for is his skill in writing and performing love songs. Most of the classic sappy ballads that we all know by heart are here: "Hello", "Easy", "Sail On", "Truly", "Endless Love", etc. Most of them are excellent to listen to when you're feeling peaceful or good about life in general.

I like nearly all of the 'love songs', especially "Say You, Say Me", "Easy", and "Stuck On You". The side of Lionel Richie's music that I've always been most fond of, however, are the more upbeat tracks. Just listen to the flawless vocals of "Running With The Night" as synthesizers are heard in the background. "You Are" is perhaps another love song, but it's also rather up-tempo and extremely catchy. And then there's the ultimate party song that never ceases to lift your spirits and make you want to dance even if you're like me and you don't dance, "All Night Long (All Night)". Finally, you may not have ever heard the song "Angel" in your life, but don't skip over it. It's VERY underrated, in my opinion. It has the poetic lyrics you'd expect from Lionel Richie, the familiar voice, and what you don't expect: a nice, modern up-tempo beat. "Angel" has something in common with the last two songs on the album ("To Love A Woman" being a duet with Enrique Iglesias): It proves that Lionel still has it.

The Definitive Collection IS the most definitive collection the world has seen from Lionel Richie so far. Of course it's not perfect, though. You'll notice that there are a few missing gems that you wish were on here, such as "My Love" and "Love Will Conquer All". But until I see a better compilation and have it in my hands, The Definitive Collection will be a 5-star recommendation from me.

P.S. - The booklet that comes with the CD is great. It includes a short biography of Lionel Richie's music career and a list of how high each song reached on the pop, r & b, and adult contemporary charts.

Free Music Review: Princess Suzie's favorites
Hit: 5 Stars

Lionel's voice is very very dramatic, soft, mellow and romantic.
He is the only person who made a lots of albums since starting in the 80's, the old school era, when he went solo after the split of the commodores. I understand that he plays the piano I think if he does I really like his playing it sounds very romantic. On this cd you would see this sign '*' by the songs he
sang when he was part of the commodores in the 70's, the disco era. The song's "Easy", "Truly" and "Say You, Say Me" are the prettiest of them all-it's like when you say mirror mirror on the wall who is or what is the prettiest of them all. There is another one that is definitly 100 percent has so much great naturie beauty of all is "You Are" because some parts in that song he says something about the sun and the rain that song is definitly is beautiful of them all! That song is very joyful and peaceful-you just gotta find a song you can describe.
I really really like the song "Dancing On The Ceiling" it is more of an energetic picker upper and uplifting tempo and rockier edge to it-it is the kind of a song that makes wanna dance anywhere any room you're in, day and night. I give this cd a score-30. Any of you people out there who are a big Lionel
Richie fan like me I recommend this to everyone out there-you gotta get it before it goes out of stock.

Free Music Review: You call this DEFINITIVE?!?
Hit: 3 Stars

Puh-leaze. Where is 'Love Will Find A Way'?!?!? That's a "defining" song for Richie IMO. Whelp, I'll just have to burn my own collection of Richie Greatest hits. Until these record companies learn that one more "can't-live-w/o" song isn't going to break them to put on the "DEFINITIVE" disc, I'll be making my own. But, aside from that, it's a pretty good track selection. I guess, if you can live w/o that one song, which I apparently can't, because the first time I heard it I was in the dentist office high on Nitrous Oxide getting my teeth worked on. The dentist stepped out of the office and I turned the gas up a little more. I was feelin' gooooooood. That just made this song rawk for me.

Free Music Review: As great as always
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is fantastic. They were great as a kid when my mom played them, and still measure up and stand the test of time. The new tracks are great as well, and just go to show that Lionel Richie can still do it.

Free Music Review: Great CD
Hit: 5 Stars

A wonderful collection of most, if not all his no.1 hits. A great way to be reintroduced to him all over again for those of us who were kids when he was big. A great way to be introduced to his music for the first time. Enjoy!
