Free Music Notes for The Definitive Collection

Free Music Review: Finally, a definitive collection!
Hit: 5 Stars

Lionel Richie finally gets a fitting retrospective with THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION, which covers more ground than BACK TO FRONT and TRULY/THE LOVE SONGS did. Besides his trademark ballads (which to be honest, I love "Hello", "Easy", "Penny Lover", "Stuck On You", "Say You, Say Me", "Do It To Me", "Ballerina Girl", and "Goodbye"; I can't stand "Endless Love" and "Three Times A Lady" because they're too saccharine and so overplayed, and the rest are ok.) But the uptempo songs are just terrific. "All Night Long (All Night)" was the first Lionel Richie song I ever heard; that song brings back so many good memories. "Running With The Night" sounds like a great slice of 80's synth-pop with all those layers of keyboards and the obligatory guitar solo. And "Dancing On The Ceiling" is a guilty pleasure, a goofily infectious new wave dance track (back in '88 I bought the tape of DANCING ON THE CEILING and it reminds me of long road trips between Houston and El Paso that I used to take with my family.) The two new tracks are decent; "To Love A Woman" is a soulful duet with Enrique Iglesias which sounds like a leftover from Iglesias' ESCAPE, while "Goodbye" is a classic Lionel Richie Ballad in the mold of "Hello" and "Truly". The limited edition bonus disc contains 5 tracks: "Zoom", "Oh No", "Can't Slow Down" (early working version), "Lady" and, as an unlisted track, "Brick House", which makes the bonus disc a keeper. This collection could have easily been a full 2-disc collection, maybe that will surface in the future. Anyway, this is the best Lionel Richie CD ever.

Free Music Review: Princess Suzie's favorites
Hit: 5 Stars

Lionel's voice is very very dramatic, soft, mellow and romantic.
He is the only person who made a lots of albums since starting in the 80's, the old school era, when he went solo after the split of the commodores. I understand that he plays the piano I think if he does I really like his playing it sounds very romantic. On this cd you would see this sign '*' by the songs he
sang when he was part of the commodores in the 70's, the disco era. The song's "Easy", "Truly" and "Say You, Say Me" are the prettiest of them all-it's like when you say mirror mirror on the wall who is or what is the prettiest of them all. There is another one that is definitly 100 percent has so much great naturie beauty of all is "You Are" because some parts in that song he says something about the sun and the rain that song is definitly is beautiful of them all! That song is very joyful and peaceful-you just gotta find a song you can describe.
I really really like the song "Dancing On The Ceiling" it is more of an energetic picker upper and uplifting tempo and rockier edge to it-it is the kind of a song that makes wanna dance anywhere any room you're in, day and night. I give this cd a score-30. Any of you people out there who are a big Lionel
Richie fan like me I recommend this to everyone out there-you gotta get it before it goes out of stock.

Free Music Review: A definitive collection worth every penny!
Hit: 5 Stars

This collection featuring two new tracks will give Lionel Richie fans an incentive to purchase the CD. Where are LOVE WILL CONQUER ALL and SE LA? They were Top 20 hits also. There are not only Richie's solo hits but his Commodores hits as well like EASY,THREE TIMES A LADY,JUST TO BE CLOSE TO YOU and SAIL ON. Hey,where are LADY(YOU BRING ME UP) and OH NO? They were Top 20 hits also. I'd like to get all the Commodores' non-compilation albums on CD also. Richie also wrote LADY(not the Commodores recording) for Kenny Rogers but did Richie himself ever record it? This collection could use Richie's recording of the 1980 Rogers hit. Tuskegee,Alabama-born Richie is also heard with ex-Supreme Diana Ross on his composition ENDLESS LOVE from the 1981 film of the same title(later covered by Mariah Carey with the late Luther Vandross). From Richie's '83 megahit CAN'T SLOW DOWN are ALL NIGHT LONG,PENNY LOVER,STUCK ON YOU,RUNNING WITH THE NIGHT and HELLO. You also get his first solo hits like TRULY and YOU ARE. From 1986's DANCING ON THE CEILING are the title track,BALLERINA GIRL and SAY YOU SAY ME(the latter was first released on the WHITE NIGHTS soundtrack album in 1985). This collection could also use Richie's recording of WE ARE THE WORLD(co-written with Michael Jackson). This album is a must for any R&B fan.

Free Music Review: His Best Compilation
Hit: 5 Stars

This is Lionel's 3rd compilation following Back To Front (1992) and Truly-The Love Songs (1997). 12 of Back To Front's songs are on this 20 track collection. If you own Truly, than 12 of its songs are also on this CD. But Definitive Collection digs a little big deeper than those other two. It adds "Dancing on the Ceiling" and "You Are", both Top 5 solo hits that weren't on the other CD's. Some might wonder why 5 Commodores songs are included when 2 Top 10 solo hits: "My Love" and "Love Will Conquer All" are not here, but my only complaint with this strategy is that they left off Lionel's first ballad hit with the Commodores: 1975's "Sweet Love". The 2 new songs are good and don't sound out of place on this collection. The liner notes are 2003-up-to-date with a lot of looking back from Richie himself. This is Lionel's best and best-sounding compilation. SPECIAL NOTE: the initial versions of this CD included a 5 track bonus CD. The track listings are: Commoders - Zoom (long version alternate mix), Commoderes - Oh No (original version), Lionel- Can't Slow Down (different take on title track from album), Lionel- Lady (1998 version of Kenny Rogers' #1 hit that Richie wrote), and Commodores - Brick House (original version).

Free Music Review: One Of The Best Collection Of An Artist
Hit: 5 Stars

I purchased this CD and I swear I listen to it daily. It is very rare now days to come across a CD that you can listen to from beginning to end without skipping any tracks. This album is well thought out starting from song selections and track layout. You will be captured from beginning to end.

It is a total bargain if you look at it that every song is good compared when you buy a new CD by those newer artist out and you only like 3 or 4 songs max out of 12 tracks on the CD.

I would recommend this album to everyone as a must have in your collection esp. for those lovers out there :)

A+++ All the way!! (P.S. BTW I am 25y/o and some of these songs go back before I was born or close too it. So it's not just for the people who were 15-25 back then, these selections are truly "Timeless Classics" and can still be played today without feeling unbefitting or embarrassed.

I honestly wish that there were more new artist out today that I can say the same thing about if I was 25 years old twenty-one years from now. I have no doubt that the songs in this album will stand the test of time and will still be played for years to come.
