Free Music Review: A Nice & Relaxing "Place In The Sun"

Lit's second album, A Place In The Sun, is a power-pop album full of some of the best damn rock tunes ever. They seem to fit in a Vegas casino because they're energized powered riffs that flow like wine. Starting out with a strong guitar that pumps out of one speaker, then finishing off with a fade out of a surf-like bass guitar, Lit's record makes for a superbly written and well-crafted rock record. Some softies pop up here and there, mainly the slow "Perfect One," which starts with an organ then rumbles into a pounding chorus. But, the great "Quicksand," ( with a fade-in keyboard twist at the start of the song) and fun "A Place In The Sun," (with a great yell from lead singer A. Jay Popoff near the end) rock the house with catchy choruses. The difference between this album and the first Lit record (Tripping The Light Fantastic)is apparent, since the sound has grown drastically. The sound isn't so much angry here, as it is (pardon the pun) sunny. Yes, there is the crunchy guitar work we oh so adore, but it isn't as pulse-poundingly driven in shaking our brains as it's predecessor was. Some of the songs are hip and swingin' like "Lovely Day," (about a mad bomber) the hit "My Own Worst Enemy," and the awesome Lit fave "No Big Thing" (also done on the first album, but sounding better on here). The record is like a soundtrack for a Vegas hipster, and you could pretty much locate Lit's sound in the Casino-rock section of your local Sam Goody. The album winds up and never winds down and keeps you energized even after track 12 ends. It's quite an adventure that nevers lets up and doesn't disappoint. If rock is your thing, then this is your one-stop album. Pick the album up, sit in the shade, and find your Place In The Sun, and rock out. Because, even if you don't like it, hey..."it's no big thing."
