It's been quite a while since I've heard vocal work this strong. LBT's two-male, two-female lineup lays a perfect four-pack of rich, intertwined, and layered harmonies atop punchy, power-pop, country-rock songs that recall Eagles and Fleetwood Mac at their finest. An electrifying positivism runs through the band's lyrics. Producer / writer / multi-instrumentalist Wayne Kirkpatrick leads the band members Phillip Sweet, Jimi Westbrook, Karen Fairchild, and Kimberly Schlapman through arrangements that never forget their six-string origins. Guest musician Chris McHugh deserves special mention for his inventive drum work, particularly on the backbeat heat of opener "Fine Line." Other highlights include the tender, life-affirming "Vapor," the anti-abuse anthem of "Evangeline," and the lost ache of "Lonely Enough." For those who like living with songs in their hearts, Little Big Town's a great place to land.
