Free Music Notes for Road to HereFree Music Review: The next (little) big thing... Hit: 5 Stars
To put it simply, this is an amazing CD. The last time I felt so passionately about a relatively new artist/band was when I heard Rascal Flatts' first CD...I hopped on that bandwagon early on and I was right, since look where they are now. And I feel just as deeply (or even more so) about LBT.
LBT is benefiting from a lot of recent publicity (People mag article, ACM Awards appearance, CMT spotlight) but it is oh so deserved. Currently, "Bring It On Home" is getting a lot of airplay and to me it already is a contender for song of the year. But LBT doesn't make a misstep on this stellar CD. First, the CD credits Wayne Kirkpatrick as co-producer/writer/musician....and he is an incredible talent, mostly known for is professional partnership with Amy Grant through the years.
What makes LBT so special and memorable are their lush, tight harmonies -- it's a feast to the listeners' ears. The CD has the perfect amount of variety -- passion, sass, melancholy, etc. And in an era of country/pop (which I also enjoy), this goes back to the basics of banjo, dobro and mandolin.
Take a listen and discover the next big thing -- Little Big Town.
Free Music Review: This rock fan LOVES this CD! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm pretty open-minded musically but I tend to prefer rock and have not been a big country music fan. That has changed after seeing Crossroads on CMT. After watching Keith Urban & John Fogarty, Brad Paisley & John Mayer, Sugarland & Bon Jovi, I bought CDs by all of the country stars, and enjoy them all a LOT. Funny thing is that the only rock artist who has a spot in my CD collection is John Mayer!
My point is that I started getting more interested in country music almost accidentally: TiVo recorded Crossroads because I had John Mayer on my wishlist. After adding some other country artists to my wishlist, TiVo recorded one of the GAC weekly countdown shows that featured "Boondocks", and loved it right away.
Great rhythm, beautiful harmonies ... I kept thinking, oh, this looks "too country" for me but the song haunted me, so last week I finally ordered the CD. It took absolutely NO getting used to, I didn't want to skip over any songs, and it's one of my favorite CDs already. I really look forward to hearing more by Little Big Town!
Free Music Review: Worth taking the "Road to Here" Hit: 5 Stars
Almost a year and a half after the release of this album, it's still generating so much buzz and it is evidenced by its refusal to leave the top 20 in Billboard's Country Albums chart...and so I bought myself one. Yes, it too me that long to grab my own copy and I regret not being fast enough to find this gem. Their harmonies are so solid they can sing any song and get away with it, no matter how bad the song should be...the amazing thing in this album is almost, if not all of their songs are strong. Boondocks (bundok - Filipino word for mountain) became one of my all-time fave songs since the first time I heard it so that's one huge highlight to this "Road to Here" phenomenon..another song to look out for is the acoustic track "Stay" - it will blow you away.
If you don't have a copy of this album then go get one; this will surely go down the road as a classic...refreshing considering the amount of country-bordering pop/rock songs and albums we get fed with nowadays...Looking forward to the next release of this very talented and gifted band.
Free Music Review: Original Heart Mover Hit: 5 Stars
The Road to here covers a variety of types of songs which the group has mostly written themselves ,or in addition with other people.
"Bookdocks" has a refreshing theme of pride in their homes."Welcome to the Family" adds a touch of threat if baby sister isn't treated right by her groom, which is really a warning used by fathers all over. The "Welcome" part is the best. Welcome but... is what is being said.
"Bring it on Home" is a hopeful love song."Wounded" is a painful long song.
The tempo is a very gentle one, even for a group, and it varies depending on the song."Boondocks" is gentle but faster paced. "Welcome to the family is mild compared to many groups ,yet it has an emphasis on certain chords to make the words very believable .
No matter what the song is,the mood is right and draws the listener in with an original energy of its' own.
Free Music Review: Great Musicianship and Awesome Vocals!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is a real gem! I first was exposed to this group through watching them do "Good As Gone" on Nashville Star last season. Prior reviews which criticize their similarity to Fleetwood Mac are really unfair to both LBT and Fleetwood Mac. Yes, they were definitely influenced by Fleetwood Mac, but they are extremely talented in their own right! The vocal talent and musicianship is first rate!
My one criticism (which is minor) involves a certain similarity of the first three songs on the album. In other words, there is a very similar vibe in a number of songs such as Good As Gone, Boondocks, and Bones...(Tryin' to Find A Reason - also similar vibe - is later in the album song order).
There is some great guitar work which includes some very impressive Dobro work from Jerry Douglas. This album is definitely worth getting!
