Free Music Notes for The Road To HereFree Music Review: Solid and consistent New Southern Country Hit: 5 Stars
OK I admit to just making that genre up, New Southern Country. It's just that this band, and this outstanding album, are so d**n good, pathblazers really, they deserve their own genre. Look at the reviews here at Amazon - mostly 5 stars, a few 4 stars, and very few lower than that. Their excellence is that obvious. There is not a bad song on this album, and every listener will discover some are personal favorites. My favorites would be Boondocks, Wounded, Lost, Welcome to the Family, and Stay.
I'm no expert in Country. I have only paid attention for about 5 years now. My hunch is outside of mainstream Nashville, there are two major schools of Country music: the Southern school and the Western school. Western Country seems to have a focus on heavy rhythms, lots of swinging instruments, mixed with personal tales of desire, tragedy, and general drunkeness. Little Big Town is much more in the Southern tradition with stories of hometowns, Boondocks, Bayous, and love and longing. Musically Southern Country owes a lot to the lighter and more traditional sounds of Bluegrass and Cajun, even Folk, and you can hear that here too.
When it comes to new country, maybe Little Big Town hasn't had the commercial success of Sugarland or Lady Antebellum, however as one other guy said here that has helped keep them grounded. There ain't one bit of schmaltz or kitsch in this music. They like to indulge in some Country conventions, like some twanging guitars or the great proud-of-my-roots sentiment in Boondocks. But this album packs the most intelligent fun and sentiment you could hope to find. The only other contemporary performer to match them would be Miranda Lambert.
Free Music Review: Their Road To Here Was Worth The Journey! Hit: 5 Stars
An excellent debut from one of country music's hottest bands right now! Little Big Town's biggest strength is their amazing harmonies.Their voices gel together and standout on their own so perfectly, plus they're also great song writers.
Every song on this album is a gem. From their big hits Boondocks,Good As Gone,A Little More You and the lovely Bring It On Home, to the rest of the tracks like the great bluegrassy style Wounded, the edgy Bones to the chilled out Fine With Me.
One of the best things about this album are the ballads. With the lovely Live With Lonesome, the touching Lost and the beautiful Stay-such a gorgeous song which Karen and Kimberly sound amazing on.
There is a reason why this was nominated Country Album of the Year at the Grammys and went Platnium. You will fall in love with Little Big Town after listening to this great album.
Free Music Review: Little Big Town Deliver a Harmonic Masterpiece! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm not the biggest fan of country but I absolutely love this album! Little Big Town have amazing harmonies and every song is spectactular! I love to sing along to these songs as well. There are some fun upbeat songs (like "Boondocks" and "Welcome to the Family" and "Mean Streak"), some Southern rock style songs (like "Good As Gone" and "Bones") and pretty slower paced songs (like "Bring It On Home" and "A Little More You" and "Stay"). Every song showcases this band's signature harmonies and amazing instrumentals. I am really impressed with this album.
Bottom Line : I recommend this album to anyone who loves Country, Pop, Harmony, and amazing songs! Buy it! :)
Free Music Review: "The Road to Here" is already a classic. Hit: 5 Stars
I recently bought "The Road to Here" by Little Big Town. There are 13 tracks on the CD and not one of them is bad. Although branded as a country band, they really are more country rock with a little bluegrass thrown in. They have unbelieveably beautiful harmonies throughout their music and if you have ever seen them live they look as good as they sound. If you like music by the Eagles or by Fleetwood Mac try this band. In my opinion they are absolutely phenominal!
Free Music Review: This is an EXCELLENT CD! Hit: 5 Stars
I'm extremely impressed with this band! After hearing Boondocks countless times on the radio, I thought they were destined for the one-hit-wonder category. To my suprise, they have tons of stand out tracks on here! Good As Gone, Boondocks, Bones, A Little More You, Looking for a Reason and Welcome to the Family and my favorites!! I highly recommend this CD!!
