Free Music Notes for Little Shop of Horrors (2003 Broadway Revival Cast)Free Music Review: Broadway is alive! Hit: 5 Stars
What's so amazing to me is that I actually just saw this on Broadway with a few other shows on my recent trip to New York. I feel like I was part of Broadway history. This is a story to be told again and again. It will survive many decades like our operas have. After the show I bought singing lesson CDs at The Colony on Broadway called Voice Lessons To Go by Vaccarino(available on Amazon too)- they are great, and the piano vocal scores to quite a few shows. If only Baz Lurman could here me now! That store was so amazing. So fun to be in the smack middle of Broadway with dancers, actors, singers and tons of tourists everyway- buying my "singing supplies" like I was really a part of it. OK, so we all have secret fantasies! So happy that Broadway is becoming revitalized again.
Free Music Review: GREAT GREAT GREAT, but some things are odd, to say the least Hit: 5 Stars
I'm in no mood to type. I'm just going to state what's good and bad. Or weird.Weird: - Foster sounds sick (as in, ailing), in his dialogue before/during "Call Back in the Morning." - Kerry Butler DOES (agreeing with a previous review) sound a little like she suffers from a little Down Syndrome, but it's schticky, and adds to the character. No, her voice isn't as powerful as Ellen Greene's, and she isn't nearly as sluttly, and yes, she's more of a Disney Audrey, but there's something that makes me like this role. Great: - The girls. - Hunter Foster. - Mushnik. - The new orchestrations (except they could have done more with "Skid Row" and "Somewhere That's Green") Bad: - Nothing really
Free Music Review: Finally the full show on CD Hit: 5 Stars
I saw the show in previews and loved it. I love the original off-broadway recording, but this recording is amazing for two reasons: the new orchestrations are much more fun to listen to and they fit the whole show (almost) on one cd! Kerry Butler leaves a little to be desired as Audrey, but I'm still fascinated by Ellen Greene's movie portrayal. Douglas Sills comes off as funny if not funnier than onstage. And Hunter Foster really makes you care about Seymour. The really great thing about this revival (and recording) is that they opened up The Trio of Crystal, Ronnette, and Chiffon vocally and they do a lot more and they sound a heck of a lot more authentic. Kudos to the engineers for making the CD feel like a real theatrical experience.
Free Music Review: TOTALLY AMAZING Hit: 5 Stars
I loved it! simply great. Everybody is great on this but I gotta mention Kerry Butler is simply the best. Her rendition of Somewhere that's green is sweet and Suddenly Seymour strong and simply wonderful, I think she's just perfect! I can't imagine the show starring somebody else, KERRY IS GREAT!, I've seen the movie tons of times and even with Ellen Greene's fine performance, Kerry is a much better Audrey. Hunter Foster is a really good Seymour, really good voice, the same with Trisha Jeffrey, Carla J. Hargrove & DeQuina Moore. Michael-Leon Wooley is hilarious as Audrey II. I simply love this album, and I'm becoming a Butler fan!, seriously you gotta get this one!
Free Music Review: Wonderful! Hit: 5 Stars
I do respect the original recording, but frankly I found that Audrey's voice ANNOYING. I think she could have got the message through that she was a blonde bimbo from New York without making her voice painful to listen to. On this recording, however, I absolutely love the song "Somewhere that's Green." It's heart-wrenching without being ear-splitting. I also found all of the songs with the trio in them utterly delightful. This CD is SO well done, and a pleasure to listen to. I loved the slightly more Jewish twist to "Mushnick and Son," while all the additional tracks are fun, if unpolished. All in all, if you are a Broadway fan, this is a great recording to get.
