Free Music Notes for StainFree Music Review: Where have you gone Living Colour? Hit: 5 Stars
A fitting end to a short but brilliant career. Living Colour was the single best thing too come out of the eighties if you like rock and roll unfortunately they weren't mainstream enough for the mainstream and not alternative enough for alternative people. What nobody has ever understood about this band is that they were on their own wave, creating their own movement. Nowhere is this more evident than on Stain where the band began to truly make music that was truly their own. It's unfortunate that this would be their last album because it gives such a beautiful glimpse of what could have been. And for all the people who find the new rap core bands and their samples so interesting, check this albume out, Living Colour were using samples six years before Limp Bizkit not to mention while everybody else was still stuck on Nirvana and Pearl Jam, this album is a true original and a true classic.
Free Music Review: Prepare for the comeback! Re-live a great band... Hit: 5 Stars
All of the Living Colour albums are great in their own way, and "Stain" is no excpetion. The songs are catchy, lyrics are great, and the talent each band member has is expressed in each song. I agree that this is probably the "hardest" of all their albums, which is why it is my favorite LC album. And now is the time to experience Living Colour again for the first time; the band has re-grouped and have been playing gigs across the U.S. They have signed a record deal and are putting the final touches on a NEW ALBUM! They have been including many songs from "Stain" in their set lists, which is yet another reason why any true rock fan should consider this album.
Free Music Review: Still rad after all these years... Hit: 5 Stars
These guys get no love...this album smokes-the band is on fire, period. I havn't listened to this in a while, and it sounds as good, if not better, than I remember. The production is mint-the bass is clear, the guitars thick, shreddin' and heavy, the drums are poundin', this album is just a sonic boom. I have to compare them to the Chili Peppers for the sole reason that the vocals are the weak link-Corey sounds great and all, but the band behind him is just a MACHINE...a FORCE. This band deserves respect, and I resent the fact that they don't get it...because when you talk about Living Colour, all people remember is the guy with the dreads dancin' around in a dayglo Body Glove outfit. Yikes.
Free Music Review: People need to hear what this band could do! Hit: 5 Stars
When a band can slip as smoothly from the heavy metal sound of "Go Away" and "Mind Your Own Business" to the soul influenced "Bi" and "Leave It Alone," you pay attention! I only wish the band was still together, but with intensely creative bands, the friction sometimes wrecks the band. Unfortunately, it happened here, but I think the work of Living Colour (especially the last two albums, Time's Up and Stain) can stand up to the work of ANY other band who also imploded similarly due to their mastery of multiple "genres" of music and distillation to THEIR OWN SOUND. Buy this album and see if you don't agree.
Free Music Review: A scorching sonic assault with seething social commentary Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of my top 10 favorite albums. I've jammed to it over and over. When I need to rage, it's right up there with Death and Rage Against the Machine - but better. These guys had more talent than they knew what to do with. New bassist Doug Wimbish is incredible here, although I've been told the original bassist was the anchor of the band that held everything together. Vernon Reid is off the hook as is Will C. Every song is fantastic and unique. Even the strange poem/art piece "Hemp" is interesting.
