Free Music Notes for Time to Say GoodbyeFree Music Review: A Can't-Win Review Hit: 4 StarsAfter reading other reviews of Sarah Brightman, I realized that regardless of what I say someone will be annoyed with my review. However, I must say what I think, and hopefully everyone will understand that I am just trying to be fair.
Sarah Brightman has a lovely voice, and you can hear how pretty her voice is on each of these songs. I am a huge fan of Queen, and I was particularly impressed by her voice on "Who Wants to Live Forever." I think that Sarah compares quite favorably with singers such as Sarah McLachlan and Enya. I consider Sarah to be an outstanding pop, New Age or "World Music" singer.
Having given Sarah such glowing praise, I must temper that praise by the music that she is attempting to sing. Sarah McLachlan and Enya succeed because they sing music that is well matched to their voices. Conversely, they rarely try music that is a poor match for their voice. Sarah is sliding into opera, and while her voice is excellent, I think she is trying to sing music in a style that is just out of her stylistic reach. I know it is hard to hear when she is the primary singer, but in comparison to voices trained for the opera, she just misses.
My favorite kinds of music are rock and pop, and most of the singers in rock and pop are not, in the scheme of things, all that good as singers. For example, a couple of my favorite artists are the Moody Blues and Elton John. However, as much as I enjoy their music and their singing, neither the Moodies nor Elton John would ever be able to sing opera, and probably New Age, successfully. I doubt they would try to sing such music, knowing their limitations. Similarly, Sarah Brightman is trying for music that requires a different approach and more vocal control.
I give Sarah an A for an outstanding effort, and she nearly succeeds, but she would be better served to returning to the type of music that she does so much better.
Free Music Review: timeless Hit: 5 StarsI have the timeless version, where the first song was no one like you instead of TTSG. No on like you was sung in a different way compared to the timeless version. Up to now, I cant decide which version I prefer more, I love them both.
it is hard to determine which is the high point of this album... at the moment, i can say en arenjuez is my favorite. Probably because I've just heard katherine jenkin's version of it and i dont quite like it... :)
contrary to what most people say, la wally is not unsuitable for sarah's voice. granted that she doesnt sing it in the way that maria callas and the likes do. sarah did, and alway had, infused it with her own kind of style, so that an opera-phobe like me would be able to enjoy the very wonderful piece without sitting through very boring pure-opera.
who wants to live forever, what can i say, its a classic. usually when a very popular song like that is covered, at best it sounds as good as the original. in this case, i could say that it even surpassed queen's version... i dare anyone to contradict me... :)
tu quieres volver, another fave. The high note that she reaches somewhere in the middle is unbelievable. And the orchestration behind her is remarkably good at this number...
now for the duets... i like jose cura's voice, especially when it's not trying to drown sarah's!! (thank goodness he did not succeed) i very much love just show me how to love you and there for me, even tho the latter tend to get a bit corny at times... i dont really like andrea at all... i very much prefer sarah singing TTSG by herself... I find andrea's voice lack something, i'm not sure what...
and for the encore tracks. alleluja is just beyond. out of this world. o mio babbino caro, well i prefer the version in classics...
overall, this is a must buy for anyone... take out your credit cards and purchase this now... unless you're one of the opera purists, this would be a very nice addition to your record collection.
Free Music Review: Melodic and Soothing Hit: 5 StarsI found Sarah Brightman through her duet with Boceli on "Time To Say Goodbye." Her voice is amazing. The songs flow one after the other, and best enjoyed sipping a cup of tea with a good book.
Free Music Review: Say "hello" to "Time to Say Goodbye" Hit: 5 StarsI discovered Sarah's "Time to Say Goodbye" on hearing it at the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas. The CD came to me by the way of a gift shortly after I had expressed my enthusiasm for the song. I was delighted to discover that the entire CD is wonderful! Because I treasure the CD as one of the best I have, I then ordered it through Amazon for a friend who I knew would love it too. She does. And, through Amazon, the price is right.
