Free Music Notes for Looking for an Echo / Original Motion Picture SoundtrackFree Music Review: 5 stars for "Looking for an Echo-cd" 1 star for Amazon's customer service Hit: 5 Stars
I ordered this item on 6/7/06 for my dad as a gift for Father's Day. He LOVES it. I also ordered the vhs and dvd so he can watch it anywhere. The vhs showed up right away since that was from an outside vendor. The cd got here just in time (6/15/06) since I changed my shipping method. The dvd order however, has been hanging in limbo. First I wasn't even informed of the delay until I logged on the week before father's day. Then, I realized what was up and split the order so the cd would get here on time. Had to pay extra shipping charges for this. Have contacted Amazon several times in an attempt to get credited for this since they never notified me of this delay to begin with. Have heard nothing back from them. While I'm pleased with the gift, I am not so pleased with Amazon's customer service related to this order.
Free Music Review: Beautiful and haunting Hit: 5 Stars
No one can capture the soul of DoWop of the 50s and early 60s as Kenny Vance can, no one. To see them in concert is to experience their love and reverence for the era and the music. This soundtrack perfectly reflects this.
The Planatones do not merely sing old songs, they bring these songs to fresh life as if you were at the Brooklyn Paramount or on the corner of 186th street and Belmont avenue in the Bronx, so long ago.
If you are too young to have lived during that time you can listen..and feel it through Kenny Vance. If you are old enough to remember street corner harmonizing and those haunting chords echoing from High School bathrooms and stairwells this album will sometimes chill you, thrill you bring a tear to your eye.
Free Music Review: fond memories Hit: 5 Stars
I didn't know of this movie, but I just heard the song for the first time a few days ago. It immediately immersed me in memories of my late husband, who died in 2006 at the young age of 63. He used to tell me how and where he and his friends would sing -- just like this song describes. He emphasized that they didn't call it doo wop in those days, it was just music. He had the range for the low bass but he liked to sing the falsetto. He grew up in Brooklyn and went to Music & Art High School in Manhattan, class of 1960. I wish he had known about this movie and song, he would have loved them. Rest in peace, Johnny, I love you forever.
Free Music Review: Beautiful Harmony Hit: 5 Stars
I was introduced to this group when a friend let me borrow this CD. I was hooked, I had to purchase it to have it for my own. If you like Doo Wop you have to have this in your collection. My favorite is Please Say which he will blow you away. Sh Boom is another great one along with Looking For and Echo. I keep thinking the CD is over after Looking for an Echo but they do It's So Hard To Say Goodbye to Yesterday that keeps you wanting more. Kenny has a mello voice that makes you love the oldies. The more you play it the more you love it. Gotta get more CD's by this group. All thumbs up here!
Free Music Review: great rnedition of doo wop Hit: 5 Stars
I've been collecting doo wop since 1957 and find that The Planotone's updated version of these classics is a must own! I came across this group quite by accident while searching for something different in the doo wop style. Their haunting arrangement of " This Magic Moment " and "Hushabye" is arguably better than the original . I love the layering of sounds backing up the lead vocals of Kenny Vance .The mix of vocals , piano and guitar give a quiet and moving sound to those "Oldies". This CD is a must for those who love doo wop ! jim feltrinelli Syracuse , NY
