Free Music Notes for Kingdom Come & Lord Baltimore

Free Music Review: listen to that guitar playing, man oh man
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't think I've ever been floored by an underrated straight up heavy rock band in a loooooong time. Not since Captain Beyond at least.

Sir Lord Baltimore is quite the underrated band. Just imagine- they have the songwriting talent, the melodic guitar solos, the heavy guitar tone, the vocal melodies, the drumming, they have pretty much EVERYTHING you need to be a successful rock band.

So what went wrong? I'm not sure, but I do know one thing- we can't change the past and somehow make this band the next Deep Purple, but we *can* fix things as best we possibly can by listening to these two wonderful albums available as one set. If you're not absolutely floored by the guitar solos, I don't know WHAT to say!

This is why I like discovering rock bands from the early 70's. When I hear a band like this I just have to smile and say "Yup, the 70's ruled" and this is why.

Free Music Review: Lord Baltimore Is King
Hit: 5 Stars

Kingdom Come is one of the most original and influential hard rock records ever made. It's very sad that the 3 musicians on this timeless classic have yet to recieve any royalties.
These 2 albums were originally released in 1970/1971, and formed the foundation for all of the hard rock/metal music since then.
Along with Led Zeppelin 1 (1969), Deep Purple In Rock (1970), and the first Black Sabbath record (1970), Kingdom Come gave birth to what is now called heavy metal. The production is first rate and the heavyness of this record is amazing. Scarf up the 2fer CD while it is available, it seems to go in and out of print randomly. It is remastered and sounds great. The original mix is preserved so purists can rest easy. So many of the guitar riffs have been ripped off by other bands, you'll recognise a few right away. May the reign of Sir Lord Baltimore continue unabated in Proto-Metal Land.

Free Music Review: great rock
Hit: 5 Stars

By the end of 1969, everybody knew the hippie dream was over. Nixon had taken the helm, and soon, you had Altamont. Some-James Taylor and Bread-turned inward, writting about the personal when the political was a lost cost. Other's just rocked. Take Sir Lord Baltimore.

This is speed freak boogie for the post-hippie set. The songs are simple, blues based structures with high octane guitatrs and a falsetto voice to match. There is no subtlety, and a lot of really funny lyrics about kings and queens and ghosts and goblins.

But the music has fantastic punch and rocks without pretense. The riffs are great hooks. Both albums are fantastic party music-pure energy. This is arena rock played in a garage.

Absolutely great work, and a great counterpoint for early 70s rock pretenence. Essential for rockers and music collectors.

Scoop this up.

Free Music Review: The only hardrock album you'll ever need, if you can get it !!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I originally bought this album in 1973 on vinyl, I remember paying 25 cents for it as it was a cut-out album. It turned out to be the best 25 cents I've ever spent, this album got played over and over. In my opinion, this is the BEST hardrock album ever released, to me it's a mystery that this band never "made it", possibly because they were so ahead of the times. Tracks like the title track "Kingdom Come", "Hell Hound" and "Lady Of Fire" don't just play once, they will forever be in your head, this album has no lows, even the soft "Lake Isle Of Innersfree" will be with you forever. With the added bonus of the 6 tracks from their second album "Sir Lord Baltimore", this album is a must for any fans of hard rock. This album should be played LOUD but be warned, your life will never be the same again, all these tracks will be "drilled" into your brain forever, it happened to me.....

Free Music Review: Great heart
Hit: 5 Stars

After reading various reviews of this recording, I have to agree with the person who said this is in the same (music)league with Raw Power album by Iggy and the Stooges (although the band do not have Iggy and the Stooges punk look and attitude)

Totally raw and abandoned with a touch of the blues ala Mountain and Lee Michaels.

The producer let the leash off told the band to play their hearts out.

Some other reviewer mentioned their was a certain Christian element to the band.

Well the band has an element of those preachers you see on TV with their arms flinging in the air as they are 'driving the devil out' so to speak.

Personally I have not heard a recording like this in years.

No great musicianship, just great love and heart

Out of 10 it gets an 8
