When I heard that Loreena Mckennitt was recording a new album, I was ecstatic, with many high hopes, and I must say that I am far from being disappointed. These new songs for the season are not only soothing and relaxing but bring out a real seasonal spirit. Though the style is a bit more medieval compared to her previous album, I have fallen in love with it all the same. The way that Loreena can form a mental picture in your mind while listening is completely awe-inspiring. I hope to hear more from Loreena Mckennitt in future days, for she just seems to get better and better.

Loreena McKinnett's followup to an abbreviated album of winter/holiday music is superb, as usual. The songs are sung beautifully and make the cold winter nights around the holidays and even beyond, bearable. The music is perfect as background music to holiday dinner parties or just intimate settings with just a few people. It also is perfect calming music to listen to during the sometimes stressful holiday times amid the hustle and bustle of shopping, baking, etc. I highly recommend this CD along with any of the other ones that Loreena has put out for our listening pleasure.Free Music Review: not your traditional holiday album...

These are a very atmospheric interpretations of some lesser known holiday songs in Ms. McKennitt's inimitable style. The cover art is very beautiful as one reviewer commented leading one to imagine the holidays a little more iydillic than they can sometimes be. Who says children can only have these dreams at this time of the year?? This will be nice to put on while gearing up for the season, putting up trees, etc. I think this will compliment the Windham Hill Winter Solstice and Narada Holiday compilations quite nicely!! I didn't know about Loreena McKennitt before I got this CD. I bought it on a whim as I heard she's similar to Enya, and I love Enya. And after listening to Amazon's preview songs, I liked what I heard, so I decided to take a chance on her. I'm so glad I did, because I absolutely love this CD. McKennitt's music grows on you quickly, reaching deep. It's truly exquisite and so unique. Her voice is like an angel's. I can't get enough of her music. I'm going to buy all of her CDs.
If you like Enya, you're sure to like her.

This is an excellent album for the winter season. Loreena McKennitt's voice is simply angelic and her renditions of classic holiday songs such as "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," "Coventry Carol" and "Emmanuel" are absolutely beautiful. Similar to Nox Arcana's Winter's Knight, which coincidentally contains the same traditional songs, the original songs blend very nicely with the holiday tracks, making the entire album a dose of winter magic.
