Van Near Rose is one of the few cd's I have that when I play, I listen to the entire thing. I have trouble picking a favorite, but I guess it would have to be the title track. It's difficult to believe that Loretta still has such an amazing voice. At 70, Loretta Lynn still has a feistyness and raw emotion that many contemporary country artists try to imitate. Sorry, Gretchen Wilson, but saying you're a red-neck woman doesn't automatically make you cool. Either you have "it" like Loretta Lynn... or you don't.Free Music Review: Lynn picks up from where Cash left off...

Much like Johnny Cash's American Recordings series, with their innovative yet vintage country sound, Loretta Lynn has come out with the best original work by a country artist in years. Aided by Jack White of the White Stripes and with a great band backing them up, this album doesn't have a skippable track on it.
The lyrics are vintage country, telling beautiful yet tragic and epic tales, possibly from Loretta's past but mostly in keeping with the country tradition of singing about love and loss. But the addition of Jack White's recognizeable guitar playing style makes for a Loretta Lynn that is virtually unrecognizeable yet also very familiar to our psyche.
If you are to own any country albums, this is the one you should get.

Loretta has proven with this cd that she can still deliver. She again writes song of coal mining, holler living, and cheating. She really is a great songwriter and her voice is still great. With the genius of Jack White behind her, it's easy to see why this cd won a Grammy for best country album. It's a really good cd. I think that modern country could learn a few things from Loretta.Free Music Review: Classic

Three words: BUY THIS ALBUM! Even if you aren't a fan of country music, you could easily love this album. It's a brilliant mix of rock, blues, country, and bluegrass...it all comes together to form a unique sound that you certainly won't find anywhere else. Loretta Lynn's vocals are excellent, as always, and the music is very energizing and uplifting. If you're looking for something fresh and new, this is the album for you. Especially if you like The White Stripes. I highly recommend it!Free Music Review: Gerat cd!!!
