I'm disappointed that the original version of 'Waco' is not on this album. Greene's re-rendering is way too over-dramatized and the backup singers don't perform the harmony parts as on the original. Anyone out there know where I can get the original? Thanks.

Saying that there's nothing quite like hearing Lorne Greene sing is something of an understatement: the man who starred as a patriarch in Battlestar Galactica, Code Red, and, most memorably, Bonanza, has a preposterously booming, uncomfortable-sounding baritone that makes him sound as though he's never quite sure of what's going on around him. Bizarrely enough, he scored a number one hit with "Ringo," a spoken-word number that casts him as a tender grandfather reading a good-night story, in the 1960s. But the real reasons to listen to this album are the unintentionally hilarious takes on the Bonanza theme, "Skip to My Lou" (with guest vocals from Michael "Little Joe" Landon), and "Sixteen Tons," which needs to be experienced for itself. --Randy SilverBroadway & Vocalists Music CDs
