Free Music Notes for Lorraine Hunt Lieberson sings Peter Lieberson 'Neruda Songs'Free Music Review: A soulful monument Hit: 5 StarsI suppsoe one way to describne these songs is that they are of love and fate. Lorraine Hunt sings them magically - full of emotional and vocal force. So heartfelt are the music and singing that I find myself close to tears at times. Added to the impact is simply knowing of her sad fate, which both she and her husband were only too keenly aware of all along. The music is so accessible that I would be surprised if people require many hearings to enjoy it - if 'enjoy' is quite the right word. If you want to be moved by the human heart and the fate it echoes, this is one CD to get.
Only one complaint: the CD is mighty short, not much over 30 minutes or so. But I can't think of what might have been a companion piece unless it had been the Rilke Songs which, however, are already on another CD (also recommended).
Free Music Review: Wonderful Music Hit: 4 StarsThis recording is gorgeous. The texts by Neruda are enchanting, and Lorraine Hunt Lieberson gives a beautiful performance of music written for her.
Free Music Review: exquisite Hit: 5 StarsThese songs, based on sonnets by the Puruvian poet Neruda, are ravisihingly beautiful and their beauty is matched by the exquisite performance of Loraine Hunt Lieberson. In light of Ms Lieberson's subsequent death from cancer the performance takes on special meaning. The songs, composed by her husband Peter Lieberson, reflect their great love for one another and are a final farewell.
Free Music Review: Feel cheated by the length Hit: 3 StarsBeautiful singing; I haven't listened to it enough to be able to really rate the CD accurately on artistic content.
However, I can't seem to get over the fact that this song cycle only lasts 31 minutes......they could easily have added more content to fill out the program. If I had known beforehand how slight the recital would be, I probably would have waited to purchase this CD later, cheaper, used. Marketers will do anything to make a buck, and I wish hadn't been sucked in by their tactics.
Free Music Review: Poignant Hit: 5 StarsSung beautifully by the late Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, these are lovely pieces whose poignancy is enhanced by the fact that they were written specifically for her by her husband, the composer Peter Lieberson.
