Free Music Notes for Los Lonely Boys

Free Music Review: Has stood the test of time
Hit: 5 Stars

Los Lonely Boys debut was up high on the charts for a long time. This is a great thing but made me wary. So I have given this cd plenty of time to grow on me and to wane; and I can honestly report I still love it even though I've listened to it countless times. It has great melodies, lyrics and instrumentation--all delivered with Passion and a harmony from the blood bond of brotherhood. I love Henry's lead guitar style playing and gorgeous vocals and JoJo and Ringo harmonize with him perfectly. My favorite tracks are "Heaven", "*Dime Mi Amor", "*Onda", "*Real Emotions" and "Velvet Sky." With the three with astericks being my absolute favorites and feel the strongest musically on the album. Velvet Sky reminds me a bit of Ian Moore, also a Texas singer. All the tracks are excellent. This is a solid debut.
I was shopping in a music store and I will never forget hearing the music playing that reminded me of Stevie Ray Vaughan! I was blown away as he is an all time favorite artist of mine. Los Lonely Boys were playing the instrumental, "Onda." When I heard the vocals on the next track, I knew it wasn't SRV, God rest his soul, but was still impressed and asked what was playing and grabbed and purchased in on the spot. This rarely occurs with me and I think "says something." When I read over the cd's pamphlet, I was very happy to see that SRV was mentioned under "Sainthood" along with Ritchie Valens. I love a band that is humble enough to give honor to those who've inspired them. I especially loved what they said in their thanks, "We would like to thank first and foremost our Lord Jesus Christ. We would also like to thank with all our hearts the man responsible for showing and teaching us music, and telling us the sky is the limit, our father Henry Garza, Sr...."
If you don't own this yet, I highly recommend getting it. Los Lonely Boys are a very special band and I am looking forward to a new release!
Soar!

Free Music Review: True Love at First Hear
Hit: 5 Stars

LOS LONELY BOYS, the self-titled album by three twenty something brothers from Texas, is jam packed with indescribably beautiful music that's one part rock & roll, one part country, one part Chicano, one part lullaby and 200 parts stone-cold gorgeous.

Because I'm a big hip hop fan who loves Pavoratti, I don't often find myself in this aisle of the music store. (And by the way what aisle is this?) But a friend gave me this CD and after letting it sit, collecting dust for over a year, I popped it into the stereo on a whim. What a wonderful surprise.

Almost like love at first hear, I found myself bopping along to literally every tune, as though I had grown on this music.

These guys are amazing singers, musicians and song writers. Bilingual, they often switch back and forth from English lyrics to Spanish ad libs. Plus it contains two versions of More Than Love, one in English and the other in Spanish -- which reminds the listener of their Texican roots.

Double sided, this CD features 12 songs on one side and 8 videos on the other. Some are acoustic and reveal just how talented (not to mention charming) this band is.

Because I know so little about country, rock & rock and Mexican-twinged music, it is almost impossible for me to accurately liken this band's sound to anyone else's, but if forced to I'd say Sting. Not because it sounds like Sting's music, but because it has that same soothing lullaby feel that comforts and convinces you've heard these songs all of your life. Plus the writing is smart and the rhythms infectious.

Free Music Review: Heaven ain't too far away
Hit: 5 Stars

Los Lonely Boys consists of brothers Henry, JoJo, and Ringo Garza (who play the guitar, bass, and drums, respectively), making them another group to add to the list of "family" bands. They first got attention with their catchy hit single "Heaven", which introduced listeners to their cool Mexican-American style of music. But don't think that's the only song worth listening to on their self-titled debut.

There really isn't much I can say about this album that other people haven't already said, but this album is great from start to finish. Here you'll find great songs covering topics such as relationship trouble ("Tell Me Why"), tributes to their heritage ("La Contestación", "Dime Mi Amor"), and straightforward declarations of their love ("Nobody Else"). And "Real Emotions" is pretty self-explanatory.

There are other standouts on the album, like "Hollywood", "Velvet Sky" and the aforementioned "Heaven". The romantic "More Than Love" is definitely a highlight as well, but it's just too darn brief. And "Onda", a nine-minute instrumental, is very intoxicating, especially that guitar at the end. But maybe it would have been better if it were the last song rather than being in the middle of the album.

One more thing I'd like to mention is that in the liner notes it says, "Willie Nelson appears courtesy of..." but I don't recall Willie being on the album (unless he's just playing rather than singing). Oh well, Los Lonely Boys' debut album is definitely worth adding to ANY collection. How far is heaven? It's right here.

Free Music Review: A great listen
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a debut album that deserves a lot of praise. It is a tribute to numerous genres of music, blended together in an authentic musical experience.

Composition:
I am a big fan of their composition and musical arrangements. They optimize their musical talents, which is all you can ask for in a band. It is impressive that in one album they present touches from many different influences from Santana, the Beatles, and others.

Vocals:
Are they they greatest singers? No. But their voices blend very well... of course, because they are brothers. Henry Garza has a wonderful blend voice between rock and pop. And Jojo actually has a wonderful tenor voice. But most importantly, their harmonization is natural and easy.

Creativity:
The music is very creative, mostly on the part of Henry Garza's work on the guitar. The first time I listened to him play was on Late Night with David Letterman. I consider myself a bit picky with music and musicianship. I remember thinking, this guy is extremely talented, not just with technique but shape. I love the shape of his riffs.

Lyrics:
You can expect this album to share some of the same subject matter as most pop or rock ablums. However, what I do enjoy is that there are also hints of deeper and more spiritual themes in their music (Not just in the song 'Heaven').

Summary:
This is one of my favorite albums from the last couple years. I highly recommend it.

Free Music Review: They May Be Compared to Many Artists, but...
Hit: 5 Stars

I can't recall when the last time was that I actually just let a new cd play all the way through without skipping a track on the first play due to boredom or the track's lack of power to hold my interest...Los Lonely Boys debut is that extremely rare album. From the awesome guitar work to the melodic sounds such as found in the track Heaven this is the kind of music I'm always open to and crave; this is the kind of real artistry that is set apart from the kiddie music heard on pop-junk radio and video stations !From previous reviews they have been compared to everyone from Stevie Ray Vaughan (LLB even give him a thankful nod in the liner notes of the cd) to (as one reviewer said) Los Lobos. Hints of Santana? Maybe. What matters is that the music and lyrics are infectious from track one to the last track. Are there many musical influential styles? Absolutely. Everything from Texan blues, some country, to good ol' rock and roll from the days of Richie Valens and Elvis Presley. Plenty of Southwestern and some Californian (almost a la Dwight Yoakam) feel...The mixture of so many different influences is done to create such a unique and colorful panoramic style of their own that I do believe these boys stand out ! So what if these guys do become very famous. It won't mean that they are necessarily sell outs but that the commercial music industry has finally opened up it's eyes and ears to something that does not have a rap, hip hop beat or head banging trash-like influence on young cd buyers...
