Free Music Notes for Los Lonely BoysFree Music Review: True then, true now! Hit: 5 Stars
On August 19, 2003, I wrote the following about the original release of this album. I still think it is true.
"On this debut album, you get a real cross section of what Los Lonely Boys can do. Because they are so versatile at bringing diverse elements together, you'll hear them compared to lots of other musicians, but these three are in a class by themselves. The CD ranges from pretty tunes, such as "More Than Love" and "La Contestacion" to the contemplative-then-fiery "Onda" and off to rhythmic rock pieces like "Senorita", "Crazy Dream", and "Real Emotions". Some won't fit into a musical box real well - but you'll find "Hollywood" and "Nobody Else" super too. It's all amazing!"
Since then, I've only grow to enjoy their music more. The other listings for them bring new pieces to the public, and the "second" CD scheduled for later this year has some very, very interesting original material on it.
The 2005 Brotherhood Tour has made LLB fans out of Ozomatli, Calexico and Robert Randolph fans (and vice versa), and this very evening LLB will be on stage with Carlito (gracias, Henry!) Santana as well.
Music for everyone? I think so - the fans range from four year olds to a couple in their seventies. But borrow a copy long enough to give it your own test. Between NOBODY ELSE, HOLLYWOOD, ONDA and HEAVEN, you should certainly find something to love - not just like.
Free Music Review: WOW-what a great new band!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
WOW these boys are talented. & I can't believe this cd hasn't recieved the publicity & acclaim that it deserves. The only reason I know about these guys is by watching the VH1 video countdown for their first single "Heaven". & although VH1 is a good starting point its not enough. Their sound is so swavay with a blend of rock....Carlos S. & Eric Clapton-like guitar riffs, soul, blues, & that sexy sheek latino sound mixed in. I have a love for all genres of music (except for hard core heavy metal) & this CD has completely made me a fan. I also love their strong sense of spirituality. I also heard that Willie Nelson helped fund the band because their his favorite local band, which makes you think that its country....surprisingly its not....Willie is pretty cool liken these guys & has good taste. Way to go Willie....it would be a crime if these guys didn't get a record contract. If you like rock, r&b, pop, blues, & groovy latin sounds I highly recommend this cd. Their music also has that 60's-like old school rock vibe to it. These guys need more recognition & exposure....spread the word. & their backed by a reputable record company/label....Sony/Epic needs to step up their promo's & assist these guys in getting more exposure. As a huge music fan I highly recommend this cd especially if you have an appreciation for all types of music. I would really like to see these bro's get the credit they deserve.
Free Music Review: Excellent debut album Hit: 5 Stars
Being in my 50's, a musician (drummer) and having seen many rock/blues bands live, such as Hendrix, Cream, Zep, Who, Santana, Allman Bros, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc. I'll attest to Los Lonely Boy's fine sense of melody and great harmonies in the best rock tradition.
The craftmanship of the songs and level of playing reveal a real feel for music. Which should be expected since the three brothers (the drummer's real name is Ringo!) grew up backing their father's band. All musicians, from Beethoven to the Beatles are influenced by previous musicians, no musician creates in a vacuum. You can hear that Los Lonely Boys influences were Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana, Allman Brothers and the Beatles. Their vocal harmonies are tight and remind me of the Beatles, especially Dimi Mi Amore. And the songs are so tunefull and fun or pasionate. Their Spanish blood gives them a romantic feel and and sense of longing to their singing. Come to think of it, Los Lonely Boys is a very appropriate name for the band; if ever a band's name matched their musical style, it's Los Lonely Boys. Like Santana, they put a lot of feeling into their music.
Hey, if Paul McCartney has played with them and praised them, as has Santana and Willie Nelson (he plays on a few songs on the album as well as Los Lonely Boys being his opening act), then you know they are the real deal.
Free Music Review: Los Hermanos del Garza estan aqui! Hit: 5 Stars
My rudimentary Spanish. Lo siento. Oops, there it is again. Sorry (and by the way, I can't do the little accent marks, so it looks even weirder).Okay, Los Lonely Boys. I knew I wanted to purchase this CD the moment I saw it advertised on television. I'd never heard any of the songs in their entirity, and in fact "Heaven" was the only one I could quote. But I knew that these guys were good. And they are. The Garza brothers have a unique gift: they combine classic rock and country, with just enough Hispanic flavor to make it unique. And they're good; that doesn't hurt things, either. "Senorita" and "Heaven" open the album with catchy rhythms and singable lyrics. "Hollywood" is a beautiful masterpiece, and you don't have to speak Spanish to enjoy the beautiful ballad "La Contestacion." "Velvet Sky" is purely enjoyable, while the 9 minute mostly-instrumental opus "Onda" sounds like the best of classic Santana. Los Lonely Boys have talent and grit. Three brothers, one sound: a band that's truly unique. Don't matter what type of music you like, you're gonna enjoy this album. And you might even learn some good ole espanol while you're at it...of course, you may be too busy dancing and singing.
Free Music Review: Best New Band I've heard in a long time! Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD for my tex-mex father in law for Christmas. We played it through Christmas dinner and that was it - I had to have a copy of it! I am a musician who likes everything from the Beatles to Aretha, to Elton to Motely Crue, Godsmack and Queensryche to Rachmaninoff. This is a very talented band and one of the best bands I've heard in a long time.
Their album features some straightforward honest lyrics, beautiful melodic harmonies, outstanding bass riffs and santana-ish drumming. The guitar player, Henry is very reminiscent of the late-great Stevie Ray but I also hear Eric Clapton and even some Hendrix stylizations in there.
I think they are being classified as a country band (since Willie Nelson produced them).I am not a huge fan of country music as a whole (although I appreciate many of the talented country music artists) - and I wouldn't consider these guys country at all. Nor would you totally consider them a Tex-mex or Santana band -they are really in a class of their own bringing in all their wonderful influences into an entirely new genre of music.
This is the first album I've owned in about 20 years that I've liked every song on the album...when's the last time YOU could say that??
