It's great this wonderful music has been released on CD. The music was all arranged by Red's arrangers of the 40's & 50's - clarinetist Heinie Beau and pianist Bobby Hammack. And the great Alexander Courage (of Star Trek Theme fame) wrote the opening "Main Title" track. This is one of the best musical movies of all-time. I'm one of the top 3 Nichols' collectors in the world. I own most of the music from the movie & perform it with my band in the Midwest. It's such "happy music" as Red himself described it, and Louis Armstrong & Danny Kaye have never sounded better!
Five Pennies Poster
Digitally remastered edition of this 1959 soundtrack. The Five Pennies is a semi-biographical account of the cornet player Red Nichols, with Danny Kaye on the lead role. Red Nichols dubbed Danny's cornet playing on the film, whilst others musical stars lending a hand include Louis Armstrong (as himself), Bobby Troup, Shelly Manne and Bob Crosby.
