Free Music Notes for Little HoneyFree Music Review: Strongest Album Since Car Wheels? Hit: 4 Stars
I love this album. I was ready for it after seeing Lucinda at the Wamu Theater at Madison Square Garden a week before Little Honey's release. Like the "Live from the Filmore (second disc)" the show really rocked. We were all hopeful this disc would not be quite as morose as West. And it defintely is not. An earlier commentary likens it to a great dive bar soundtrack. It is. This is Lucinda at her most playful. When you decided to cover AC/DC as the final song and make it work you've got to be having a blast. Don't shy alway from this one.
If Car Wheels is 5 stars, Little Honey is 4 stars.
Free Music Review: Little Honey smooth as can be Hit: 4 Stars
Lucinda Williams is one of our finest singer/songwriters. She's been doing it for years. Her ups and downs are always in her songs. I was fortunate enough to see her at the Belly Up in Aspen. One of the best music clubs around - the sound is unbelievable. Lucinda commented on the quality of it frequently. Little Honey brings her full circle. From the death of her mother and broken engagements, she seems to be appreciating and truly enjoying her next cycle and new love. She still can break your heart, but it's also nice how big she can make you smile.
Free Music Review: STUNG BY THE HONEY BEE Hit: 4 Stars
This is my first Lucinda Williams album so I can't really compare it her other albums. I like any singer that can make me believe or feel as though they have lived or experienced what they are singing about whether it's in songs of celebration of love or more reflective songs of loss, and Lucinda definitely does a great job of doing that.
Free Music Review: she's only rock n' roll and she likes it Hit: 4 Stars
She really is more rock than she is country and I'd argue she's the female equivalent of the Rolling Stones, as her classic--Exile on Main St??--"Car Wheels On a Gravel Road" lp established. This one would would be lesser than that album, but wouldn't any album? However, the guitars are loaded and still carry the better songs, here.
Free Music Review: A return to rocking form Hit: 4 Stars
After last year's West this is a return to the rocky Lucinda of earlier albums, but without losing the opportunity for introspection on the slower numbers. She also shares her humor and sense of fun on several tracks, especially the duet with Elvis Costello.
If you enjoyed Car Wheels on a Gravel Road this one is for you.
