Free Music Notes for The Cool

Free Music Review: This album has renewed my faith in hip hop
Hit: 5 Stars

Other than a few underground hip hop artists I had pretty much given up on this genre but then along comes this beacon of light. While Kanye West & 50 Cent fight over who has the best album(both are mediocre) Lupe slips in & steam rolls over both of them with ease. This disc just gets better with each listen...Buy now!

Free Music Review: Best Hip-Hop Album in awhile
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is sick. Great lyrics, excellent beats. Only two songs I didn't like out of the 15+ tracks. Highly recommended.

Free Music Review: The Coolest album of "07"!!!
Hit: 4 Stars

In 2006, Lupe hit us with one of the best debut albums from a conscious rapper since Mos Def's "Black on Both Sides" album, with innovative songs, a new art of storytelling through clever wordplay, and creative but sometimes off production that left us wanting more from this wordsmith we call Lupe. Well, the Coolest is back with another masterpiece that is very different from his first album, and much darker. Now before I grabbed this album, I got great feedback from others about how he delivered precise lyrics, but his beats wasn't as good as the first album. I thought the beats on his first album were average at best, but Lupe's delivery carried that album. However, "The Cool" presents a stronger more focused Lupe, as he hit you with rapid fire flows on "Go Go Gadget Flow", and "The Die" which (if your from the Chi) you can appreciate his tounge twisting abilities. Beat wise, I thought the production was better than his first album. "Dumb it Down" is the biggest highlight production wise, but Lupe out does his production with probably one of the best lyrical songs of the year! It's a shame that his first single didn't get more radio play than "Kick Push".

Other highlights are "The Coolest", the old-school Nas sounding "Paris, Tokyo" which is one of my personal favorites since I'm a young-old head. Casual fans will like "Superstar", "Hi-Definition", and hands down one of the best songs on this album "Hip Hop Saved My Life" has Lupe talking about a rapper trying to put his name out there as one of the top up and coming MCs. "Gotta Eat", "Little Weapon", and "Gold Watch" has the rapper penetrating subjects like fast food, video games and materalism, you never get tired of this artist lyrical wordplay and storytelling methods that makes you sit down and think, "Dis dude is a genius". My only nit pick of the album is "Hello/Goodbye" and "Go Baby" which were ok but kind of went into left field a little bit. By far his best album and in my top 10 albums of '07'!!!!

4 1/2 stars. A Masterpiece!!!

Free Music Review: BUY THIS ALBUM, YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

My title says it all...if you dont have this album, please buy it and support a true artist. This album is insane! Thank you Lupe for bringing back true hip-hop. I am so sick of hearing about cars, bling, girls, and how "cool" it is to be a thug, and if that is the type of music you like stay away from this album because it is too intellegent for you!

Thank god there are still some artists out there who refuse to "Dumb it Down!"

Free Music Review: A League all his own
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a big hip hop fan for about 12 years now. I love the music and the culture, and I love when the music is done with a balance of flow, lyrical content, and production. Lupe Fiasco does music better than most artists today. He deserves to be mentioned amongst the elite conscious rappers, such as: 2pac, Nas, Common, Talib Kweli, Etc.

Lupe's work on Food & Liquor was superb, to say the least. His production was done well, his flow is good, and his lyrical content is extraordinary; it felt good to hear an artist rap about something other than money, hoes, and clothes. The Cool is better than Food & Liquor as far as flow and lyrical content, which is pretty good. However, The Cool has much darker production compared to the up tempo production of Food & Liquor. The darker production is good if your a fan of flow and lyrics rather than beats alone. His choice of production also helps support the concept he's trying get out by the album.

Personally, I think The Cool is an excellent album and I would even say that it is better than Food & Liquor. However, as a critic of the album, This album may fall short of some peoples' expectations as far as his production. If you are a fan of lyrics more than beats then this album is for you, but if you're looking for good, up tempo production than choose another album.

Overall, The Cool is lyrically better than Food & Liquor, however, Food & Liquor is musically better than The Cool because of better production.
