This is a rap album you can listen to all the way through. Much like his first album, Lupe has stayed true to his music. Not only is it great music we can listen to, its all carrys with it an important and worth-while statement. As a lyricist there is no other equal to his talent.

Lupe's debut album ("Food and Liquor") is probably THE best Hip Hop album of 2006 and I highly suggest you pick it up first before you grab "The Cool"; mostly because it introduces the characters that play a rather huge role in the story of "The Cool" - namely The Streets, The Game, and The Cool.
"The Cool" is only partially a concept album; I think 5 songs are dedicated to the story of "The Cool"; while the rest of the tracks are not. Lyrically this album is on par with his debut, and is easily an instant Hip Hop Classic among the ranks of A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul etc....Lupe is one of the most lyrically able artists of our time and he truly deserves all of the praise he receives.
As far as production goes: solid gold. The beats are tight and just as good (if not better) than most of the garbage being cycled on the radio stations.
My only gripe with "The Cool" is the over saturation of the chorus in each song; we don't need to hear the chorus 4+ times each song.

Hip Hop is ending after some 30 years as a genre, why be surprised? Lupe Fiasco. like Common or MC Solaar in France still keep it going. A beautiful album, but too long and not well programmed track wise. So program the good tracks yourself, maybe wait if a vinyl comes out and enjoy, enjoy.Free Music Review: one of a kind!!

All I have to say..is "Thank God for Lupe"....this album is an instant classic. With all the "cookie cutter" corporate hip hop out there, its good to see that some Mc's still beleive in the true art of lyricism...the beats on this album are SICK, really unique for this day and age in hip hop. Go get this...Hip Hop for 07 came strong...can't wait until next year...Awesome Job Lupe...The entire album is miles above everything else out...If not the #1 album of the year, its in great company with Jay-Z's American Gangster, or Common's Finding Forever
