Free Music Review: An Enjoyable Listen!

This new Cd with his Large Band picks-up where the "Live In Texas" CD left off. And it is also Lyle's best work in the past few years. "Tickle Toe" is an instrumental swing style song that opens the CD. The standouts for me "South Texas Girl" featuring an intro vocal by Guy Clark and "Up In Indiana" which is classic whitty Lovett. There is abonus acoustic version of "Up In Indiana" included as well. A great closing lyric phrase in the song "All Downhill" paying tribute to his fellow troubedors he plays with from time to time. "Good Luck You Can't Buy It, Joe Ely and I sit next to that John Hiatt. We Park Next to Guy Clark, We sing when it gets dark." When with his Large Band, Lyle covers the gambit of all musical gendres. This a very enjoyable listen and a long awaited return collaboration with his Large Band.Free Music Review: no surprises here

A Lyle fan I was looking forward to this new CD - unfortunately there are no stand out tracks for me, (perhaps after some more listening)?
I guess I was hoping for something to 'hit me' but it didn't happen - enjoyable listening all the same.

Predictable in the sense that it doesn't have the great, offbeat lyrics that some of his CDs do (viz. Joshua, Ruth, Judges). But, it's a very well engineered CD of the typical, fun, interesting, full sound of Lyle & the big band.Free Music Review: Home ground
