Free Music Notes for Natural Forces

Free Music Review: a golden nugget shining brightly
Hit: 5 Stars

What an excellent album! Lyle Lovett fans are gonna like this! Lyle is at his very best and there's a great selection of songs on this album. He has fine arrangements for these tunes, too; and that enhances them all the more. Lyle possesses a rare talent for performing at a very high level; and this CD proves it. The quality of the sound is first-rate, too; and I love that artwork.

There really isn't a dud in the bunch here. "Natural Forces" has Lyle singing and that musical arrangement is lush without taking the spotlight away from his vocals--impressive! "Farmer Brown/Chicken Reel" is totally awesome; Lyle--or any other artist--couldn't have done this any better! Now THIS is high quality control music.

"Pantry" is excellent country; Lyle makes this seem so easy but of course we know it really isn't all that way--Lyle's talent carries him through. "Whooping Crane" has a beautiful arrangement and Lyle does this with all his heart and soul--I love it. "Bayou Song" and "Bohemia" are very well done; I like "Bohemia" in particular. Give it a listen! It's easily a major highlight of the album.

"Sun and Moon and Stars" has Lyle in the spotlight; and that guitar arrangement is very creative and special. "Loretta" is quite memorable and "It's Rock and Roll" will stay in your mind for quite some time after you hear it. The CD ends strong with Lyle Lovett performing an acoustic version of "Pantry;" this sounds just splendid.

Lyle Lovett fans are really getting a fine treat here; and this is so good it's also a great starter CD for people new to Lyle Lovett's artistry. I highly recommend this stellar album.

Free Music Review: Nebraska's Blood Brother
Hit: 5 Stars

Once again Lyle Lovett has done it. Natural Forces is a beautifully crafted, mostly downbeat masterpiece of an album. Here Mr. L has left the Large Band behind and focuses more on the kind of hauntingly quiet songs you need an ample supply of when night-driving accross any desolate place. The lyrics and music conjure images of Cormac McCarthy's great western trilogy or Larry McMurtry's modern westerns. This album could easily have been a companion piece to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska.
The title track is phenomenal as are two very different versions of the song "Pantry". The only odball here is Farmer Brown which is nonetheless a pretty funny little hillbilly number. And for you purists out there, there's even a beautifully faithful cover of Townes Van Zandt's "Loretta". If you're a fan of Lyle or good music for that matter, pick this one up.

Free Music Review: It just keeps coming
Hit: 5 Stars

We saw Lyle last summer in concert and he did some songs from this CD and I was anxiously awaiting the release of it.
This is just another in the line of excellent work from Lyle. Is it better than the last one? It is very difficult to top his work of the past 10 years or so. His music continues to be some of the best available, and this CD is no exception.
All of the songs are easy to listen too and keep your attention while listening. Lyle and his friends continue to write songs that are sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and sometimes have a real message to convey and this CD fits all of those categories.
I am happy to add this CD to my collection of a long list of Lyle Lovett music that I own and plan to enjoy it for years, just like his other music.
You can't go wrong purchasing this CD, nor most any Lyle Lovett CD.

Free Music Review: Oh, My. God!
Hit: 5 Stars

Easily one of the best albums Lyle Lovett has put out. He is one of the greatest singer/songwriters on the planet. Natural Forces is just all around excellent. I was previewing the album on the Lost Highway Records website and about fell out of my chair during the Farmer Brown/Chicken Reel. Hilarious. My only question: When exactly did folks lose their sense of humor? Guy's got to have some fun and that song is a barnburner of a party song. Not to mention a hellava throwback to some of the bluer country/blues songs from the early 20th century.

Needless to say I ordered this immediately. Lyle does not disappoint.

Free Music Review: He's back!
Hit: 5 Stars

It seems like a long time since Lyle Lovett put out an album but "Natural Forces" is worth the wait. This album is a mix of some original Lyle Lovett songs as well as some from his fellow Texas songwriters. The title song, Natural Forces, explains a cowboy's wandering ways. The song "It's Rock and Roll" is a jaded but probably accurate view of the music industry. His cover of the Townes Van Zandt song, Loretta, is the best I've heard. One of the best things about "Natural Forces" is the musicians - the acoustic version of "Pantry" (featuring Sam Bush on mandolin) is wonderful.
