Free Music Review: Good, but not the best ever Hit: 3 Stars
Hardcore LL fan, looking for this to be more than it was. While Lyle is always entertaining, this isn't a bad cut. Don't miss adding it to the LL collection if you have one, but don't look for it to dazzle you either.
Free Music Review: Oh Lyle! Hit: 3 Stars
This CD is not cohesive in flow. It flings the ear back and forth from ballad Lyle to rocker Lyle, from brilliant song writing to mundane (Choke my chicken? What were you thinking?). I found it hard to listen to.
Free Music Review: 4 or 5 stars? No way. Hit: 2 Stars
I own ever Lyle Lovett ever made, including this one, and this is the only one I probably won't keep. Now, I can't give anything Lyle has done 1 star, but 2 stars might be generous, especially when the work is compared to his other records. He only wrote a few of the songs, and a couple of those are goofy throwaways. Overall, the record is very subdued and just fine for playing during a nap. However, if you want more than that, try any of his other albums and consider passing this up.
So, for anyone trying to decide whether to buy this record, don't trust all of the 4 and 5 star reviews. Those folks must have been hired by the record company. It's either that, or they are just plain nuts. And you don't have to believe me either. Just listen to the thing first and make up your mind before you buy.
Free Music Review: Give Me My Money Back!! Hit: 1 Stars
This is Lyle Lovett attempting to recapture the good old days when he could write a song that raises to the level of a classic. "I'm gonna choke my Didn't want to hear it once! Much less stuck in the middle of what is already a mediocre album.
