Without a doubt, this album reflects the bands wide range of song writing and musical ability. I find that if you find out the back ground of each band member, where they came from, etc. then you can really appreciate the musical content. Ronnie Van Zant was the lead singer and song writer. Basically the band's mentor. He formed the band. Ronnie came from extreme poverty (Gainsville Florida). He knew that music was the only ticket out of that poverty. Ronnie wrote music from his heart and soul. His rough and roudy image, overshadowed his talent. In my opnion, he is one of the best songwriters. He is in the caliber of David Allen Coe; another singer/songwriter whose image as a mean and ornery musician over shadowed his talent.
