Free Music Review: If this doesn't get your feet 5 Stars

you just might be the latest guest of honor on CSI.

From the beginning to the very end, this recording simply takes off. About the only negative thing that I can say is that some of the transitions between songs are choppy, but that is hardly a factor at all.

For anyone who has never heard Lynyrd Skynyrd before and wants an introduction, this would be it. This concert features some of their best and the dynamics between the musicians is outstanding. Check out "Gimme Three Steps", "T for Texas" and the wild guitar of "Freebird" to see what I mean. One of the lovliest ballads in rock, "Simple Man" is also on the CD version of this (I have the cassette).

There isn't a single track that is not worthy of inclusion in this recording.

Free Music Review: One of the best live albums around!
Hit: 5 Stars

By far one of the greatest live albums around, has all the classics and a few non-studio gems. Thier version of T for Texas is amazing, Steve Gaines played like his fingers were on fire. Ronnie Van Zant sang every song with heart felt emotion, Simple Man was just one sample of his vocal power. The 3 guitars of Steve Gaines, Allen Collins, and Gary Rossington sounds like they were feeding of each other. There was no video released of the Fox theatre show where this was recorded, but if you want to see the power of a live show pick up a copy of Free Bird the movie, it also contains a version of T for Texas. If you are a Skynyrd fan you know what you are getting, if you are not a fan you need to add this cd to your colection. I promise you won't be dissapointed.

Free Music Review: THE LYNYRD SKYNYRD BIBLE !
Hit: 5 Stars

This is sacred ground for Lynyrd Skynyrd fans. An historical document, this is the real deal by the real thing. Forget "best ofs", "essentials", "greatest hits", whatever. If you want one Skynyrd album, and only one, THIS IS IT! This is the people's band, playing their best loved songs for the people. On southern soil (Atlanta, Ga.). The essence of everything Lynyrd Skynyrd is, was or will be. Most of these songs sound better than their studio counterparts. I've always preferred this version of "Free Bird" (much more emotional than the also great studio version). Ronnie Van Zant is at his best, and with the addition of guitarist Steve Gaines, this is the band at it's peak, and in it's element. Don't miss this one!

Free Music Review: The one CD to take if you had to go to a desert island
Hit: 5 Stars

Comparing it to the original LP and to the original CD, the enhanced overall sound quality of this CD version really helps you to appreciate the virtuosity and cohesiveness that lineup of Skynyrd had. The added songs and interjections are great, too: "This ain't rowdy enough for me....". My only slight knock on this version is they seem to have changed the mix to de-emphasize the crowd noises in some places. It's most noticeable to me during the opening bars of "Tuesday's Gone", where I kind of missed that one loud "yyyeeeaaaahhhh" from someone in the audience that's so apparent on earlier versions........but I'd still recommend this album and this version most highly.

Free Music Review: Love It, But...
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this album when it first came out and I've always loved these songs and these performances. The deluxe edition, with remixes from the original 2" tapes, brings out the sound beautifully...with one exception. Billy Powell, on piano/keyboards, is way too far down in the mix. When he's soloing, the piano should be in your face, but instead it's at the same volume level as the guitars. The original version of this album had a better mix, but not the same sound quality.

Too bad the mixing guy, Kevin Elson, wasn't paying attention to the original mixes - or he doesn't like Billy Powell's playing. I may have to pick up the 1996 remaster to supplement this one.
