Lynyrd Skynyrd is the epitome of Southern Rock. And they are continually snubbed at the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Right here, right now, I am giving a clarion call for all fans of Skynyrd, rock, music, etc. to protest this huge injustice.
On to the album . . .
This is the greatest debut of all time. Hands down, no question, black and white. There is no grey here. Every song is justifiably a classic, with Free Bird, Simple Man, and Tuesday's Gone still being played on TV shows, commercials, radio stations even today. This album is a part of the national consciousness. THERE IS NOT ONE LACKLUSTER SONG ON THE ENTIRE CD.
It is hard to even review this album, because everything I could say about it has already probably been said; I'm just being redundant. People called Skynyrd the "American Stones," but that's a slight to this great band. Now don't get me wrong, the Rolling Stones are my favorite band of all-time, but Skynyrd is a very, very close second and stand on equal footing with the aforementioned Stones. If only Van Zant hadn't died...
Anyway, this album is essential for any music collection. Buy it.

Free Music Review: Lynyrd Skynyrd's Powerful Debut And More.. Hit: 5 Stars
"Pronounced", Skynyrd's debut, the "Second Helping" album, the raw "Muscle Shoals" recordings are the band's definitive essentials. It's been said the early work of any artist are usually the best, all three of these recordings reveal the true colors of Ronnie Van Zant and the band as a whole. The instrumentation is tight with Billy Powell's piano notes are right on key, Powell's style is very similar to Professor Longhair, the New Orleans singer/piano player. "Pronounced" contains eight classic songs with some of their strongest material, "Gimme Three Steps", "Free Bird", "Tuesday's Gone", and "Simple Man", you gotta love the blues/rock oriented , "Things Goin' On", "Mississippi Kid", "I Ain't The One". The extra tracks on this version are also excellent, including the demos of "Mr. Banker" another blues number, included also are the rockin' "Down South Jukin'", "Tuesday's Gone", "Gimme Three Steps", and an eleven minute jam session of the anthem, Free Bird. This band with the "southern sounds" of the past knew how to flat out rock in every sense of the word, "Skynyrd".
Free Music Review: Even without Freebird, this would still be great Hit: 5 Stars
Lynyrd Skynyrd's 1973 debut is no less than a classic rock album. A classic classic rock album. Eight songs, all of them great. Prime riff-rockers (Gimme Three Steps, I Ain't The One, Simple Man) one of the best rock ballads ever (Tuesday's Gone) and one genuine all-time classic song (Freebird). But the lesser known songs are great too. Things Goin' On, Mississippi Kid and Poison Whiskey are all fine songs. Not a weak spot on the whole album. In an era where great rock albums where everywhere, Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd stands distinguished. The follow-up, Second Helping, is just as good as this one, if not better. Personally, I have a particular fondness for Pronounced over Second Helping. Both are excellent though, and belong in any hard rock collection. This new remastered version is great also. I had the older release and this one is superior. In addition to the bonus tracks, there is also improvement in sound quality and thorough liner notes and song details.
Free Music Review: A rockin debut from one of the greatest bands of all time Hit: 5 Stars
Lynyrd Skynyrd is not just the best southern rock band ever but they are also one of the best rock bands of all time including every band out there. This CD was a great debut for this band and showed what they were made of. Take out "Freebird" and this album still rocks. My personal favorite song on this album and favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song AND favorite song of all time is "Simple Man". The song is amazing in every way possible. I havn't heard a song with so many good quotes in it. This song keeps me goin everyday because the meaning of the song isn't deep or complicated like many songs are, the meaning of this song is so simple and easy to understand and thats what makes it so good. Also this CD has the very popular and fun "Gimme Three Steps" and the good "Tuesdays Gone". I recommend getting this classic album because it started this band up is a great album and good album to have in your collection of classic rock albums.
Free Music Review: Skynyrd Totally ROCKS! Hit: 5 Stars
My dad bought me 'Second Helping' for christmas one year, and I coundn't get enough. I had to buy this one and all of the other Skynyrd albums too. 'Freebird' is southern rock at its greatest, 'tuesday's gone' is a great ballad, 'gimme three steps' is really good , and 'simple man' may be some what slower, but is still hard drivin' rock n' roll. The way they blend in the mandolin on 'Missisipi Kid' is great, and 'I ain't the one', and 'poison whiskey' are good rockin' songs too. here's all the songs rated.1. I ain't the one (4 stars) 2. Tuesday's Gone (5 out of 5 stars) 3. Gimme Three Steps (4.5 stars) 4. Simple Man (5 out of 5 stars) 5. Things goin' on (4.5 stars) 6. Mississippi Kid (4 stars) 7. Poison Whiskey (4.5 stars) 8. Freebird (10 out of 5 stars) The demo Mr. Banker has some awesome slide guitar, and 'Down south jukin' is good too. If you're a skynyrd fan this cd is a definite must have.
