Lynyrd Skynyrd is the epitome of Southern Rock. And they are continually snubbed at the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Right here, right now, I am giving a clarion call for all fans of Skynyrd, rock, music, etc. to protest this huge injustice.
On to the album . . .
This is the greatest debut of all time. Hands down, no question, black and white. There is no grey here. Every song is justifiably a classic, with Free Bird, Simple Man, and Tuesday's Gone still being played on TV shows, commercials, radio stations even today. This album is a part of the national consciousness. THERE IS NOT ONE LACKLUSTER SONG ON THE ENTIRE CD.
It is hard to even review this album, because everything I could say about it has already probably been said; I'm just being redundant. People called Skynyrd the "American Stones," but that's a slight to this great band. Now don't get me wrong, the Rolling Stones are my favorite band of all-time, but Skynyrd is a very, very close second and stand on equal footing with the aforementioned Stones. If only Van Zant hadn't died...
Anyway, this album is essential for any music collection. Buy it.

This is the best Rock band ever to come out of the South.
Ever.
Better than the Allman's and Marshall Tucker.
Better than bands like the Eagles, Stones and old Aerosmith with their quasi-southern rock type songs and don't get me wrong those are great bands. No, original Skynyrd was true classic Southern rock with blues, gospel, country and Zeppelin style guitar blended into one.
The original Skynyrd was the real deal and the best was the first. "Freebird" is a classic rock masterpiece and "Tuesday's Gone" is also great. Check out also "Mississippi Kid", very Southern outlaw in your face stuff.
My favorite though is "Simple Man" and although slow the words and song stand out as being larger than life.
That song, in my opinion, is greatness.

Words cannot explain just how amazing this album is.This is an album you can definitly listen to straight thru.All the way from the wailing opening melody of "Tuesday's Gone" to the souther fried slide-guitar offerings of "Freebird",Skynyrd shows off it's unprecedented musicianship with its triple guitar line as well as Ronnie's honest and human lyrics,which I think anyone can relate to even to this day.No other rock n roll band could maintain its cocky swagger and at the same time remain as true as Skynyrd did to their roots.If you need a break from the furious fretwork of Eddie,Joe,Jimmy,or Angus,or if you are simply looking for timeless,honest,quality rock n roll music,then Skynyrd is the band you're looking for.All of their albums up to Street Survivors is a must have.
