Free Music Review: A rockin debut from one of the greatest bands of all time
Hit: 5 Stars

Lynyrd Skynyrd is not just the best southern rock band ever but they are also one of the best rock bands of all time including every band out there. This CD was a great debut for this band and showed what they were made of. Take out "Freebird" and this album still rocks. My personal favorite song on this album and favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song AND favorite song of all time is "Simple Man". The song is amazing in every way possible. I havn't heard a song with so many good quotes in it. This song keeps me goin everyday because the meaning of the song isn't deep or complicated like many songs are, the meaning of this song is so simple and easy to understand and thats what makes it so good. Also this CD has the very popular and fun "Gimme Three Steps" and the good "Tuesdays Gone". I recommend getting this classic album because it started this band up is a great album and good album to have in your collection of classic rock albums.

Free Music Review: The One Album to Rule Them All
Hit: 5 Stars

This is, in my humble opinion, the greatest album of all time. As a die-hard classic rock fan, I love bands such as Zep, The Who, JHE, AC/DC, and the Beatles. But Skynyrd tops them all. Why, you ask? Well, for starters, these guys were tough-as-nails blues rockers from Jacksonville, Florida who never got a break unitl they were finally discovered in the early 70s, although they had been playing since the mid-60s. Allen Collins and Gary Rossington were not famous session guitarists like Jimmy Page, and they were all too poor to afford guitar strings, or even shoes. Yet they managed to compose the most emotional, hardest rocking album that has yet to grace any of my CD players. I Ain't the One is a great song with a great drum intro. My drummer friend has declared this some of the most impressive drum work he has ever heard. Tuesday's Gone is a very emotional ballad showcasing some of the only orchestration ever found on a Skynyrd song and some slick slide guitar compliments of Gary Rossington. Gimme Three Steps Shows some of the great lyrical skills of singer Ronnie Van Zant, and is a awesome song that shows Skynyrd having some fun. Simple Man is a hard-rocking song of advice, and is a great song to listen to when your life feels complicated, as my high school career often gets. Things Goin Down shows some great "wild west" piano and delivers a powerful message. Mississippi Kid is different from all the other All-Star Jams on this CD because it is completely unplugged, and yet is a kickass song that gives Van Zant to show off some badass-osity. Poison Whiskey is a good song, but probably the weakest on the album. However, it still far rocks harder that any of the crap kids listen to today and still earns an 8/10 in my book. Freebird, simply put, is the most triumphant song of all time. Anyone who argues this is a fool. If you haven't heard it then your life is incomplete. And all the bonus tracks are a great addition to this already Most Awesomely Triumphant Album of All Eternity.

Free Music Review: In a League of its Own
Hit: 5 Stars

The first album from Lynyrd Skynyrd is truly a classic rock legend. In what other other 80 minutes of music can you find classics such as tuesdays gone, give me three steps, simple man, and of course, free bird? You just have to enjoy music to enjoy skynyrd's first. They know how to make an excellent song, they know how to create meaningful lyrics, and most importantly, they know how to rock out.If you are looking for a band that is up there with Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd as some of the greatest bands of all time, then go buy this album.

Free Music Review: DEFINITIVE Southern Rock
Hit: 5 Stars

The Allman Brothers started southern rock, but Lynyrd Skynrd ruled the genre during the mid-seventies. They defined not just the sound, but the attitude of southern rock. "Pronounced", their debut album, is simply as good as it gets. From the foot-stomping drive of hits like "Gimme Three Steps" and "I Ain't The One" to the sensitivity and soul of "Tuesday's Gone" and "Simple Man", this album has it all. And of course, there's the definitive Southern Rock anthem, "Free Bird". Even the lesser known songs "Things Goin' On" and "Mississippi Kid" and "Poison Whiskey" are great (as a kid, Poison Whiskey was my favorite Skynyrd song). Every song is great! I wore out 2 copies of this album on vinyl, I'll find some way to wear out the CD!

The sound is great on the CD, and the additional tracks are good. "Mr. Banker" and "Down South Jukin'" are well known to hard-core fans, certainly worth having on disc. The 3 other demo versions (Tuesday's Gone, 3 Steps, Freebird) are interesting, but not essential.

This remains one of my all time favorite albums, I'd give it 10 stars if I could!!

Free Music Review: Quintessential Southern Rock
Hit: 5 Stars

Yes, yes, yes this is the one album you need to have even if your having more than one. Songs like "Things goin on" and "Missippi Kid" just don't make it on to them compilation albums. If you miss them you miss some of the reasons that Ronnie Van Zant's voice was so perfect and respected in this genre. Real root music right out of the South. This will take you from some sweet mandolin and Honky Tonk piano to soaring guitar licks all in 45 minutes or so. See where some of the copy cats got their inspiration. Gotta get it!!
