Free Music Notes for Street SurvivorsFree Music Review: skynyrd's second best... behind their "second helping" Hit: 5 Stars
this album really rocks, i mean REALLY. even their big corporate single (you know which one) is a great song. "that smell" is a bit underrated by some, and so is "i know a little". but the best song award on this album goes to "you got that right."
i have the original (recalled) lp album cover. (my dad bought it back in the day). and there was all that hype about them burning and then van zandt and gaines, their newfound and stellar guitarist, died in the infamous and tragic plane crash.
but nonetheless, their last effort was one of the best.
P.S. Their concert at summerfest was ridiculously awesome!!!! esp. from the front row!!!!
Free Music Review: Steve Gaines... Hit: 5 Stars
This album was DEFINITELY Steve Gaines coming out party...His influence was ALL OVER this album...whether it be his playing or songwriting /vocals.( I know a little) was an older song he had been doing since the early 70's...And "Ain't no good life" was the ONLY Skynyrd Song in history that RVZ didn't do the lead vocals...Man, I was in 10th grade when this came out...Still sounds as great today as it did back then...One can only imagine what the Steve Gaines inspired Skynrd would have become..Because he definitely scared Gary Rossington and Allen Collins into playing better than they had in years...What a shame...
Free Music Review: What a crying shame... Hit: 5 Stars
that this album had to be the swan song for a great lineup of a great band. The addition of Steve Gaines to the band gave them a shot in the arm both creatively and instrumentally and if not for the unfortunate accident that ended it all, I believe they would have soared to new heights.I was , along with friends , set to go see them in concert(would have been the third time for me) when the plane crash occurred just three days prior to our going. This album ranks with their best("Second Helping")and I never tire of listening to it.RIP Ronnie, Allen Steve and Leon. And as a new note(2-17-09) also RIP Billy.
Free Music Review: R I P Lynyrd Skynyrd! Hit: 5 Stars
From the first early recordings of Lynyrd Skynyrd (Michelle, Need All My Friends) to Street Survivors, this band had played the brand of southern rock the way it was meant to be. I'm a southern rock purist and I believe that once a band have been dissolved, it should stay dissolved. Such as the case with Lynyrd Skynyrd. The 2nd incarnation of Lynyrd Skynyrd does not even come close to the original. It's a totally different band and I think they should change the name. In fact, Lynyrd Skynyrd should have ended with Street Survivors, period.
Free Music Review: Bittersweet Hit: 5 Stars
The sweet: This is perhaps the best Skynyrd album. It is not as filled with hits as some of their ablums, but the songs are great and the guitar is PHENOMENAL. Street Survivors is truly one of the great 'guitar' albums ever recorded. Nearly every song boasts stunning blues/rock/country guitar.
The bitter: The line-up, with Steve Gaines, sounds great...too bad it is the only album of the line-up we have:( It always makes me sad to think that, right when they were reaching a new level of greatness, their lives were cut short.
