Free Music Review: this is a great double cd album
Hit: 5 Stars

this is a great double cd album. its one of the best out there. but then with lynyrd skynyrd i dont think there is a bad one anywhere. because skynyrd is that good they always have been. and they always will be. ronnie was the man. but i think johnny has done a fine job of keeping skynyrd going strong. i really like this album one of my favorites. this one would make ronnie proud. as well as cassie steve dean and allen.

Free Music Review: A Perfect Primer On Lynyrd Skynyrd
Hit: 5 Stars

THE ESSENTIAL LYNYRD SKYNYRD trumps GOLD AND PLATINUM as the first place to go for Lynyrd Skynyrd by including five cuts each from SECOND HELPING and STREET SURVIVORS. If you don't want to splurge for all of the individual albums, or for the boxed set, get this one.

Free Music Review: LOVE IT!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have this set and absolutely LOVE it! It has just about any song you want to hear on it. I'm always switching from the black disk to the red one. I've owned this for years now and never get tired of it.

Free Music Review: One of the top CD's ever recorded.
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD rates as one of the top five that I own. And I own over 950 CD's. My music taste range all the way from the blues to classic rock to hard rock.

If you put this CD in the category of classic rock (southern style) then it will be classified as the best collection of songs on one 2-CD set ever recorded. Period.

The two best songs in the set (in my opinion): The Ballard of Curtis Loew & Tuesday's Gone are classic examples of how a fast pickin' southern rock'n'roll band can slow things down a bit to give you the perspective of how the blues has affected their playing style.

These guys were talented and way ahead of their time. They appealed to a group of people in the 70's and 80's like no other band ever could. Can you say Allman Brothers ?

Free Music Review: Crack open a cold one and crank this baby up!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the best Skynyrd collection out with 25 classics digitally remastered to sound better than ever.
There is also a booklet featuring informative and entertaining liner notes with some cool photos.
The booklet concludes with a listing of the songs and who played on each track which is nice because now you can know who is taking the solo and who's doing the slide part etc...
For instance I thought Ed King was one of the soloists on the studio "Freebird" but it turns out that he handled the bass on that recording.
The compilation is well put together as each song flows perfectly to the next one and every song is a jam.
From the strutting danger of "Gimme three steps" to the vicious crunch of "Saturday Night Special" to the power ballads of "Simple man" and "Was i right or wrong"... this collection just flat out rocks.
You also get a previously unreleased version of "Comin' Home", a b-side gem titled "Mr. Banker" and the acoustic "All i can do is write about it" which was previously only available thru the box set.
The only downside to this collection is that they could have added some stone cold classics like the good time boogie of "Down south Jukin" or the crunching underrated "On the Hunt" which i consider to be one of their best rockers or the cautinary wah wah guitar scorcher "Needle and the spoon".
I mean side one adds up to 68 minutes so why not include more when there is so much more you can add when it comes to the great Skynyrd!
Oh well...this collection still is great and will fill up anyone who has an appetite for the best southern rock ever!!!
Long Live the one and only classic LYNYRD SKYNYRD!!!!!!!

O.F.
