Free Music Notes for The Essential Lynyrd Skynyrd [2-CD SET]Free Music Review: Skynyrd was NOT a racist (...) band! Hit: 5 StarsFirst of all, Skynyrd's music has always been a part of my life. Their songs represent some of the best times. In fact, I can even say that when I hear a Skynyrd song it connects to me personally some how. But anyhow, a reviewer below claims that skynyrd was "engrossed in their condederate issues," and appealed to "skinheads" and the "(...)." I surely would love to know how! Listen to the Ballad of Curtis Loew and tell me if you think that is racist! I don't think so, Ronnie was singing about how he (I suppose he's talking about himself) WANTED to listen to a black bluesman play and his mom wouldn't let. Well, that didn't stop him, he kept on going back and listened to "Ole Curt" play. Also, Ronnie is quoted as saying, "you don't have to be black to be a nigger." Maybe some "political correctness afficiando" would claim that JUST because ronnie said the "n word," he is racist. But, I think that Ronnie was connected to them in some way, and BELIEVE me a racist person would NEVER EVER connect to his "enemy" in any way. Plus, just because he is proud of being from the South does NOT mean he's racist. Not all Confederate preservists carry the stereotypical slave-owner, lyncher title that northerners seem to convey upon them. In conclusion, just because southerners are proud of their heritage does NOT make them racist. What if they would say that Northerners are stupid because New Yorkers talk funny, thus stereotypically claiming that ALL northerners talk with a bronx-accent? While a watered down analogy, i think you all get my point. Rock on Skynyrd!
Free Music Review: Greatest Collection Hit: 5 StarsI can honestly say this is the best Lynyrd Skynyrd CD set I have ever bought. I can put the CD in and listen to it all the way through, it's great. The Live Version of "Gimme Back My Bullet" is an awesome song. The only other collection I would take over this one is the expensieve box collection, but this 2 CD set is very well put together. Everyone that likes any song of Skynyrd should check these CD's out.
Free Music Review: The Essential Lynyrd Skynyrd Hit: 4 StarsThis is a pritty solid cd. My favorite tracks include: Tuesday's Gone, Gimme Back My Bullets, All I Can Do Is Write About It, That Smell, Sweet Home Alabama, Simple Man, The Ballad of Curtis Lowe, and Free Bird. Pick this cd up if you like Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Free Music Review: Essential Skynyrd!!! Hit: 5 StarsBack a couple of years ago I bought "Lynyrd Skynyrd: Gold & Platinum" -- which I thought was the perfect LS cd. Alas, I found this gem. Not that Gold & Platinum was a bad cd, this just has so much more to offer. Most people are oblivious to LS -- with the exception of "Free Bird" and "Sweet Home Alabama." LS has so much more to offer, so many GREAT songs. On this 2-Disc "Essential Lynyrd Skynyrd" it has it all! So let's get started on the review!Disc 1 has so many good songs. First, the forever popular "Sweet Home Alabama." Whenever I'm drinking this is the song that I get started off with. Gimme Three Steps is another gem from LS, just a pure classic. "Working For MCA" is another 'good' song, not LS best, but still a very good song. "Simple Man" is another very popular song by LS, I absolutely love this hit! "Swamp Music" is another good song, kinda slow, but still essential LS! "Saturday Night Special" is more of a low sounding rock song, but still equally good as "Swap Music" and "Working For MCA." "Call Me The Breeze" is another light rock song, not much to pump the adreneline, but still nice. And lastly on disc 1, is the forever popular "Free Bird" in original form -- not as popular as the live version, but it's still nice to have on cd! Disc 2 is loaded to the gills with good songs. "What's Your Name?" is the first song on the cd. It's got a great beat, nice vocals and excellent lighter-rock song. "Tuesdays Gone" is a classic, that I will never forget. Awsome solo at the end. "Gimme Back My Bullets" is excellent, especially LIVE! I absolutely loved that they put this in the live format, really gets the adreneline running. "Tuesday's Gone" is another essential LS release, very popular. "That Smell" is another adreneline rush -- excellent lyrics. And last, but not least, "Free Bird" live, in all its greatness! All in all, if you're a avid Lynyrd Skynyrd listener, then this is the collection for you. However, if you're a huge fan (like me) you probably already own most of this material. But to "LS" apprentices, this will plug you into the greatest of LS.
Free Music Review: A fine collection, but... Hit: 4 StarsThis is probably the best collection of Skynyrd material out there, replacing the older "Gold and Platinum" album. However, do we really need TWO versions of Freebird, one studio, one live? That 12-minute guitar solo sounds pretty much the same either way. They could have given us one, and then had space for a few other gems, notably "Needle and the Spoon" which, for some odd reason, is not included. "Down South Jukin" would be a nice addition, too.
