Free Music Review: OLd & new merge into a stellar group

I too am a die hard Lynyrd Skynrd fan and have been for over twenty years. With the release of Vicious Cycle the new incarnation has finally hit their stride and are producing true Skynyrd songs. I have read most of the reviews from the naysayers complaining that this is not the original LS and they shouldnot be using the name. To these people I have to say - grow up and let it go. If these people are true LS fans they would accept the fact that any band changes over the years. This applies to the members and the music. I don't believe that the new lineup is that much different than the original in the quality of thier music. I would suggest that these naysayers listen to the albums by the original group in order of release and pay attention. You will notice that their sound did indeed change. Their first few albums were rough and unpolished, much the same as the new lineup. With Vicious Cycle LS has found the roots of what makes this band (any incarnation) the legend that they truly are. They make no holds barred, too bad if you don't agree,take no crap music that everybody can relate too. They write songs that deal with everyday issues such as patriotism (Red, White, and Blue),political decisions, defending your loved ones regardless of the consequences (Dead Man Walking), and simply enjoying life to the max (That's The Way I Like It). This band has finally clicked within itself, and has stopped trying to make music to please everybody. They have gone back to the original formula of making music that they like and can be proud of. I for one think they have succeeded. We cannot live in the past nor can any band make the same music they did twenty years ago. This album from start to finish is worthy of the Lynyrd Skynyrd name and deserves to be right beside the originals. One last thought, the remake of Gimme Back My Bullets was not intended to be better than the original, just a new version. Everyone needs to keep in mind that Kid Rock is a superstar in his own segment and for him to ask to do this says a lot about what LS has accomplished over the last thirty years. Overall there is not a bad song on here and I only wish that I could give it more than five stars. It has been in my CD player nonstop for over two months now and I love it more every time.
