Free Music Notes for Lauridsen: Lux Aeterna, etc. / Salamunovich, Los Angeles Master ChoraleFree Music Review: Lauridsen: Lux Aeterna, Hit: 5 StarsI enjoyed this recording very much. Our community chorale society was scheduled to perform Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna this past fall. I purchased the CD to hear how the Los Angeles Master Chorale, for whom Lauridsen wrote this piece, performed the work. I was very impressed with the groups dynamics in a most difficult composition. I only hope that our performance did this piece justice.
Free Music Review: Lauridsen: Lux Aeterna Hit: 5 StarsMorten Lauridsen is visionary genius regarding composing for mixed voices.
He captures the solemnity of the ancient chants with harmonies that draw the listener into reveries of worship and peace. The Los Angeles Master Chorale
is indeed masterful in presenting the nuances of harmony and dynamics that display the beauty of Lauridsen's creativity.
Free Music Review: Listen to the "roses" Hit: 5 StarsEverybody talks about the Lux Aeterna and O Magnum, but not too many people have had the pleasure of singing the entire "Les Chansons Des Roses" set. I did in college and once since, and the simple beauty of the set based on poems by Rilke is captivating both to the singer and the listener. The challenge of singing four movements acapella and striving to be in tune at the end of the fourth movement while the piano joins the choir cholding the last chord to segue into the fifth is infuriating, but sublime. This is a great recording, I guess only Lauridsen and the people in the recording session know about how many takes it took to get it right...
Free Music Review: Gorgeous Hit: 5 StarsIt's incredible that I've listened to this CD at least 300 times over the last two years and still love it. Without a doubt, Lux Aeterna is the most beautiful piece of music I've ever had the opportunity to sing.
Free Music Review: Ethereal Hit: 5 StarsThe title says it all. The hamonization, clear tones, and excellent recording are out of this world. The balance of the chorus with the orchestra is wonderful.
