Free Music Review: Sleeze metal at its finest

Shout At The Devil is, in my opinion, the best Motley Crue album ever. Why? Several reasons. For one, this album was really their breakthrough release. Sure, Too Fast For Love was great, but back in 1983 most people had never heard of this band until this album came out. Secondly, this is RAW heavy metal/sleeze metal. It's the kind of sound that I like to call sleeze metal or street fighting music. The thing that makes this album so appealing to me compared to their other albums after Shout At The Devil is the fact that there is no layering of guitar (overdubbing) over pre-recorded guitar by guitarist Mick Mars. In other words, he plays backup guitar and lead guitar all at once, instead of recording the backup guitar and then perhaps the next day he adds the lead guitar layered over the backup guitar. It is this rawness that makes this album stand out in their catalogue. The best tracks on this album are...all of them. The title track is a pop metal classic. Looks That Kill is, too. Too Young To Fall In Love changes the pace a little bit. Knock 'Em Dead, Kid is my personal favorite. An often overlooked song is Danger. A softer sound, but it fits right in. Other standouts are Bastard, Red Hot, and Helter Skelter. This is Motley Crue at their best. Raw. Powerful. Tons of attitude. In Your Face. Buy this album or any of the different versions that have been released over the years. Long live The Crue.
